Hi Hayley,

Not far back in my tree, but my Grandad (my dad's, dad) was so special to me.. He did so much for me, he was like a dad to me, (i'll explain)

My dad, who is very dear to me worked away for many years, mainly in the middle east when i was growing up. Dad went away to work when i was very young, came home on leave for a few short weeks here and there.
over 15 years went by and grandad was always there for me, others were to but he was my dad as well if that makes sense.. He taught me so much and was kind, caring and loving..

I miss him so much...

Mel journey man means time served as an apprenice at a trade not a travelling sales man....Hatters worked in the mills with very heavy machines..up till the early 1990's Christies in Stockport was still a working hat factory.

I feel a silly question coming on, but will ask it anyway *sighs*

Is it right that hatters made hats for men i.e. bowler and top hats, and milliners made hats for women?

I ask because I have a female "maker of ladies hats" in my tree, which I think would be called a miliner.

Hi Hayley, I don't yet know if any of my family were famous, although my maternal Grandma reputedely sang with the Carl Rosa opera company. What I do get a sense of though is all those poor women, having baby after baby, year after year, from being 17 through to their 40s.Well, they did in my family anyway. I havn't yet been looking long enough to know how many of the babies thrived, but if all my familie's did i'll be here forever finding living cousins. I really hope you solve your mystery, you're in the right place here, kind people are so helpful and tenatious helping you.Lots of love and good luck, Nina

Better wait until I find my missing link before throwing caution to the wind.
