Family legend on my Mums side of the family is that someone helped Bonnie Prince Charles ( something to do with the whole boat escape to Skye etc ) and for this help the chap was given a Hall and a crest etc.
Oddly enough I have found tentative links to this but can't can't the missing one that hooks up my Chisnall folk to the main " hub " in Lancashire..............this " legend " was old by Aunt Amanda , who apparently had someone trace the family tree many years ago..........but it's not impossible that she was just a wee bit gullible..........lol........having said that I haven't given up hope in finding the missing link.

And I can play the Skye Boat Song on an Ocarina : ))

Put them all in you tree with a clear conscience:))) LOL

I'd only like a man in a kilt if he had good strong legs.........couldn't be doing with spindly ones..........lol

Better wait until I find my missing link before throwing caution to the wind.

: ))

Hi Hayley, I don't yet know if any of my family were famous, although my maternal Grandma reputedely sang with the Carl Rosa opera company. What I do get a sense of though is all those poor women, having baby after baby, year after year, from being 17 through to their 40s.Well, they did in my family anyway. I havn't yet been looking long enough to know how many of the babies thrived, but if all my familie's did i'll be here forever finding living cousins. I really hope you solve your mystery, you're in the right place here, kind people are so helpful and tenatious helping you.Lots of love and good luck, Nina

I feel a silly question coming on, but will ask it anyway *sighs*

Is it right that hatters made hats for men i.e. bowler and top hats, and milliners made hats for women?

I ask because I have a female "maker of ladies hats" in my tree, which I think would be called a miliner.
