Daff. fpr beautiful and diverse scenery you cant beat New Zealand, but we loved England with its ancient bridges and castles and Roman Forts etc. I would love to visit Penmaen with its archaeological treasures.

BC, I am extremely envious. Here I am with matchsticks propping my eyes open again. I wish I could get 9 hours sleep, or even 8, or 7, or 6. I was woken at 3.30 by bright lights (including the moon) all over the place. I am not a happy chappyess. I am supposed to be driving OH up the motorway this morning so he can go hiking with his 'girlfriends'. I just hope we get there safely. I have decided it is the last time I am going to do it. In future if they dont come to our neck of the woods then he doesnt go hiking with them. Too dangerous (the driving when tired).

Re the menopause, I didnt have any great problems. I would feel slightly warm so would take off my cardigan, then a little while later I would decide it wasnt so warm after all and would put it back on. No sweating in the night and having to change the sheets, no panic attacks. I was one of the lucky ones.

Better go and sort myself and OH out so we can get away in 70 mins time. It will take much of that time to persuade him to take off his best clothes which he has put on and put on something more suitable for the mud conditions he is likely to meet.

lol...I had a quiet chuckle at Huia driving OH to go 'hiking with his girlriends' And, Huia, I seldom sleep for 9 hours without moving and when it happens it is a great luxury! *waves to Ann....are you getting ready to go off...again? lol Hope you have a lovely time.

I am sitting at my computer to escape the nonstop chatter of my lodger...she is a lovely woman but does not know about the occasional therapeutic value of ....silence.....lol.

Hope everyone has had a happy day:-)

Huia, I am sorry I have neglected you lately, my apologies... I hope you managed the drive safely, I do understand what you mean about driving when tired, as I try to avoid that when I can. I hope you can sort out some hikes for your o.h. nearby so you don't have to drive there, and can rest at home instead or do something nice for yourself while the hikers are out.

Star, I would go to the Heritage centre if I got back that way, never enough time but maybe I will get back to Wales next year and do it.

Maz, it's been pretty wet and coolish all day here in Norfolk, not sure if it will brighten up later on but at the mo it's raining altho my hedgehog did venture out to eat some food, he soon disappeared again, I hope he has somewhere warm and dry to snuggle down during the day.

Have a good Sunday everyone, too many to list but especially Daff, and BC

love

Hi all.

We got to the 'girlfriends' place ok although it was touch and go. OH fell asleep on the way and I snapped 'wake up'. I didnt see why he should sleep if I couldnt. And I was very close to falling asleep. After dropping him off I went to a nice quiet carpark and slept for 2 hours, although I was cold in the 2nd hour. We arrived home at 3.30, had a couple of cups of tea, then I said I was going to have a nap on the settee as it was too early to get dinner and I didnt want to be woken. A few mins later when I was about to drop asleep OH asked something about cabbage and I told him it was much too early to even think of dinner. About 10 mins later when I had just dozed off there was a noise in the kitchen and I asked what he was up to. He said something about cooking cabbage so I went to see what he was up to. He had filled a small saucepan with cabbage and boiling water and had had all 4 hotplates on, although they were off when I got out there, but there was an empty saucepan on one of them. It was extremely hot. I had to stand out there and help him to cook his potato (he had been unable to find one) and sausages and cabbage. I told him I wasnt going to have dinner at 4.30 so he had to eat the lot. I cooked my own at 5.30. Here it is 7.50 and he has already gone to bed so I must go or I wont get any sleep before he gets up for breakfast at midnight! I have taken the 4 elements out of the cooktop, luckily they are the sort that are easily removed. Dont want him burning the house down in the night - or any other time.

Huia Report 2 Aug 2009 08:59

I forgot to say, OH used to be good at cooking dinner for himself before we married. Yes, Ann, it really is like having a small child in the house again. He sometimes puts his clothes on inside out or back to front and his shoes the wrong way round.

BC, I know what you mean about the therapeutic value of silence. I dont get enough of it. OH is forever turning the radio on and then going off and leaving it. I call it the babble box. Probably I dont like it because I am a little hard of hearing.

Morning everyone... well, had a fairly lazy day... meaning I went for two short naps, spoke to lots of people on the phone, and finally went to bed at 7.30 pm... did a couple of codewords while I waited for the painkillers to take effect... then slept for about 4 hours.... more painkillers at 5.30-ish, then slept again til 9.45... Jethro woke me up, bouncing on my head, wanting his breakfast!! I'll try not to take painkillers now for a few hours, as I would prefer to take them at night.... but everything does seem to be hurting a lot today.... sometimes though, moving around a bit helps to ease it... we'll see later.

Jean, I have my camera back now, so will take a couple of *now* photos..... I loaned it to my niece for her and my sister's graduation photos. It will look really good next year... a masterpiece in the creation!!

Huia, New Zealand is one of the places I would love to visit... however... I am not at all good with heights, and I know that your country is rugged and beautiful on a very grand scale... and includes many mountains and valleys.... I would need to be heavily sedated, so that would spoil it for me.... many years ago, I did climb Snowdonia.... well, part of it... I was almost 14, and it was with a youth group... however, one of the girls absolutely froze... I was fine, until we got down...... the next day, we went to a reservoir... and the view looking down at it was spectacular.... for about 30 seconds, and then that was me.... finished... trembling, sick, and really useless!! I have tried a few times since then... but no good, I have vertigo even on the kitchen steps. We went to Crete a couple of years ago... what a beautiful country.... but I couldn't enjoy a trip anywhere unless it was on the sea.... although we did go, it was a nightmare for me, and trying not to show it in front of the children on the coach trips was not easy at all. Penmaen is in Wales, by the way, not England, lolol If you come to the UK again, you must visit my beautiful part of the world.... there is just so much to see and do here.

BC..... you'll have to get some duct tape!! Is she due to go home, soon? You'll enjoy the peace and quiet all the more once she's gone........ how is your little dog?

Ann, glad you had a good day out yesterday..... and that the wine was good, lololol

Well, I feel hungover this morning (no wine or sherry for the last few days, I promise, lol) so I think I'll go and have a nice long shower to see if it will wake me up!

See you all later!

Love

Well, had to nip to T***o for a few bits, then we are trying to plan what to wear to the 'do' tomorrow that doesn't a) make us look like mutton dressed as lamb, b) make us look too old, c) make us look too fat!!!! And then we are trying to pack for a British summer seaside holiday!!

Very strange, I bought a skirt yesterday with a view to wearing, like it, had a blouse that went with it. T agreed it looked nice, then tried on several other outfits (as you do), and have ended up with a fairly new shirt, sounds garish but it has purple, red and fawn stripes, and a deep purple skirt that must be at least 6 years old!!!

Got most of the packing either done or hanging ready to pack tomorrow morning. A bit limited for car space as there are three of us going down so extra luggage.

Thought I would sit down here for a rest!!

I hope you are feeling a bit better now, Daff and having lots of sleep and rest..*frets..

Beautiful day here as well, Jude, got lots of washing on the line and did loads of paperwork and booked flights, coaches, etc...am now getting panic emails asking what they should 'go as' for the wedding! lol

My doggie's eye seems to be improving (vet said it looked like an alien had taken root...ugh!!) but she is still behaving in a confused way. Let's hope her blood tests show up what the problem is and we can get her better.

Did anyone read a little article in The Mail (I know Ann reads it) the other day, saying what you should do if anyone is having a heart attack?. I can't get it out of my mind. They said, concentrate on the chest compressions and do them roughly to the rhythm of the Bee Gees song...like ahh.ahh.ahh.ahh..Staying Alive, Staying Alive. They advise not saying this aloud whilst you are doing the compressions....I just cant get that song out of my head now......lol....

Am off to cook a traditional English Roast ...*groans*..... for my lodger her brother and wife.....

That shirt sounds lovely, Ann, or was it a skirt?

Catch you later.....

~~~~~~~~~~ to everyone.... well, I have had a thoroughly lazy day, lol... spoken to my son and granddaughter on the phone (she lubs me, she said so.. Glanny is my new name, lolol) read most of a book I started ages ago but couldn't get into... did a little bit of dead heading and watered the pots... back to sit in bed and do some codewords.... the shower didn't wake me up this morning, by the way, lol... and I have dozed off a couple of times for half an hour or so... it is brick wall time, I think... the tiredness just grabs you, but I shall be fine as long as I take it easy...... well, after I've been to the dentist tomorrow, lol..... I am such a scaredy cat when it comes to the dentist!!
I am going to have a chip sarnie in a moment, and then back to bed!! I will finish the book, and then snuggle under for the night....... so sleep tight everyone... I'll speak when I get back from the torture chamber tomorrow, lololol
