MrDaff Report 26 Dec 2009 09:30

Good morning everyone... what a lovely day today!! It has been raining, and all the ice has melted... but the sun has definitely got his hat on now, and is smiling benignly down upon us all!!

I do hope everyone had a wonderful day yesterday... ours was absolutely magical!!

Not everything went to plan, though.... oh no no no!! "Shakes head in mirth"

We decided to have dinner early.... all was doing well, the avocado/smoked salmon was all ready... the first mishap...the soup. We hadn't got it out... well, I didn't know it had been put into the freezer, so it needed defrosting.... so that was popped in the microwave. All the green veg was ready to be turned on once we sat down for the first course.... the roasties were in the oven doing nicely, and the turkey was *resting* ready for carving.

Littlie looked stunning in her red velvet dress and black patent flashing shoes... she did insist on the pink headband rather than the pretty white, or pretty red one I had bought..... but hey, the girl has style, and wore it with panache!! ;¬))

Then the phone went... brother no 2, D... thought he'd phone early as he knows we don't usually eat until after the Queen's speech..... well, he had some fantastic news, so we chatted a while, and R carried on in the kitchen... he put on the vegetables. Yep... like the sprouts and the broccoli, and the cabbage and the cauliflower.... then my parents phoned.. and sisters times 2, then my two other brothersand an hour later, the soup was still frozen, and the greens were saved, but by the skin of their teeth!! I had realised that they were on, and turned them off and rinsed them under the cold tap to help stop them cooking.....

So, we sat down to dinner, just after the Queen, as usual, with one very tired little girl, who had been so hungry to start, that Grampy and me were smuggling tidbits to keep her going... so she didn't really want her dinner, lol!! She made a valiant attempt... particularly loved the smoked salmon and avocado... spat the sprouts... looked sadly at the mushy broccoli, but enjoyed it mashed with butter and pepper... and woofed the (almost perfect) roasties down!

Santa was very good to her.... her sack was stuffed full of goodies, and she was sooo thrilled with each one....

Today we are off visiting family... that velvet party dress is just too cute for a girl to wear it just the once, lol

Our men are having a lie-in (what's new there, then? lol) and Littlie is off for a shower in a mo...... Boxing Day lunch is always an ad hoc... the bubble and squeak is all ready to go.... and all the bits to go with it are prepared, or bubbling away (eggs) ready. So easy peasy!!

See you all later

Love

Morning all....... well, it looks as though it will be quite pleasant, but cold today... skies are currently blue, and the sun is glinting off the fuselage of a passing plane... wonder where they are off, then? A winter ski-ing holiday, or somewhere warm by the sea... or maybe full of people sad at going home after a Christmas spent with distant relatives? We did have snow in the night, but it didn't lay for long, and looks lovely out there now... R says it is cold, though!

We had a busy day yesterday.. Little Princess wowed all her gt Aunts and Uncles with her beautiful party dress, and excellent manners (she kept her naughtiness for when she got back, lol... boy, did she give my son the run around when he was trying to get her ready for bed... then wouldn't speak to mummy on the phone!!)

We are off visiting again today... we will be taking some rather large dogs walkies, so will need to be careful.

Joy, I remember it well, the days when the box the toy came in gave more fun than the toy itself, lol... Littlie had some new patent shoes, and we have painted the box...... she is using it on her new market stall to hold all the miniature tin cans we bought her, lol.... I found some plastic handles from something else, and we have taped those on... and it looks just like a proper shopping basket... well, it does if you are 3 years old and have made it yourself, lol

Maz.... a bit of welcome peace,Lol.... it is lovely when they are with us, but a bit of peace and quiet is very welcome amid the mayhem, lol

Right... off to change littlies trousers... these are slipping down and there are no belt loops, so she has a proper builders bum, lol!!

Have a wonderful day, no matter how you choose to spend it

Love

Well, we are home to a peaceful tidy house Lol!!!

We had a good Christmas, chaotic as usual, son only does chaos Lol!!! But he cooked a lovely Christmas eve fish meal and a really nice christmas lunch. 7 year old was awake (apparently, she woke Mummy not Nana) at 4.45am so was very very tired bt 5pm so Tree pressies were saved until Boxing day!!! She had so many presents she didn't know what to play with first but particularly liked the magic tooth fairy game which was quite painless to play with her!!! I thik her favourite though was the camera Her Mummy and Daddy gave her a little Samsung one so we were much photographed!!! 13 year old grandson was equally pleased with his presents especially his main one from his Mum and Dad and Amp for his guitar!

T and I had some lovely presents too, thanks Daff for yours!!!

Better go and unpack, just wanted to let you know we are safely home.

Hello and ~~~~~~~~~ to everyone ,
Your christmas sounds lovely Daff, I bet your littlie had a magical day.

We have had a lovely christmas, the 1st one in 30ish years that we have had out of our own home.
Ann ,our daughters do chaotic as well, the D we went to I don't think she has ever understood the concept of tidy as you go it's more a case of fill every space with something then hunt for what you want lolol.But we had a lovely christmas dinner and late tea and played games with grandchildren then strolled home about 11ish.
Yesterday we spent at a sisters another lovely meal and more quiz games played , today is quiet but tomorrow all are coming to us so it will be quite noisy here.

We had a lovely surprise on Christmas day our D and gr/children in NZ phoned us so we all had a lovely chat.

All presents were liked and well received so a happy time was had by all.

Lovely to read about how everyones day went .

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of Sunday.

Havoc

What I find difficult to understand (and I am not the tidiest of people) is the pile of dirty washing accumulating in the door between kitchen and utility room so that everyone plows through it including the two cats. Why not store it in the washing machine? However, I do not ask!

JustGinnie

JustGinnie Report 27 Dec 2009 17:32

Ann I agree it's much better not to ask, I bite my tongue and sit on my hands as I am tempted to say things and start tidying up but know it wouldn't be welcome. I daresay I might have been the same with my mom although my Ds take after her for being untidy not me, I am not overly tidy but do like enough floor space to move around lolol each to their own though!!

Good morning dear Daff and all:-) Lovely to read about your various Christmases. I wrote a long (for me) post and it just whooshed off into cyberinfinity!! I shall try again. I got back late last night (ice on the wings and the tasty captain came out at least four times to personally explain and apologise). Now you wouldnt get that with Ryanair! lol

Took the train from Dublin to Clare and was met on platform by son and the two grandchildren. Lots of excitement and shouting and talking. Had a really wonderful four days, managed to fit in two parties,loads of drinks,exotic food cooked by son, and lots of story telling to my two angels. They went to a party one day and when the lovely P came back, resplendent in red velvet dress and silver shoes (like your Littlie, Daffy:-)...she burst in the door arms waving, red faced with excitement....'Kitty drove the car into a ****ing hole in the road!!!!!' We let Daddy deal with that one. Then F had wet his pants and was sent home in a silly pair of shorts...lol...My lovely DIL adored her Uggs and never took them off. In fact after one of our celebrations I happened to notice that neither she nor my son took their boots off when they fell into bed.The children thought it was so funny.

The weather was snowy,frosty, much like here,with a hefty wind from the Atlantic blowing us whenever we ventured outdoors. We kept a turf fire burning all day and all was cosy. They have lovely, eccentric neighbours,who called in at various times. Once one of them called at 2am when we had all just gone to bed but we got up and partied again...lol....

Then I got a coach back to Dublin to spend the Christmas with my SIL and niece. My SIL got a flu virus and had to spend a few days in bed so I took over for a while. But we had loads of food and booze, lots of people popping in, and I managed a long walk on the beach every day. She was so thrilled with the bamboo tree which I had hauled over to her. It looks beautiful in her porch and I collected a load of amber/cream pebbles from the beach to put on top. Christmas morning and an old lady with black beret gathering pebbles on a beach? yes well.......lolol....even the dogs kept their distance....

All in all a lovely time but it is so nice to be back in my own home and bed. I collect doggie tomorrow and she seems to be fine,fingers crossed. Have spoken to Old Dragon and she sounds full of beans. *sighs...it looks like my retirement will have to be postponed for a little while. (again)...

I shall now go and catch up on the other threads. Hope all your days go well:-)

Morning everyone...... brrrrrr it is so cold here!! The sun is shining brightly though, so even though it is cold, it isn't dismal... couldn't be doing with dismal today, lol

Littlie is going to be sent out with daddy today, to give granny and grampy a bit of a break... daddy doesn't know this yet, and is sleeping peacefully. He eventually went to bed at about 4am. I shall wake him about 11... he will have had a good 7 hours sleep then, lol. And I am disconnecting the internet when I go to bed tonight.... and taking the connector things with me.

He is doing loads of research, in all fairness... he had an e-mail, and then a telephone conversation, with someone in Hull.... this chap is in charge of the Master's course that my son has applied for... anyway, son is in, but will need to brush up on some things, as his degree was 7 years ago... so he has been reading all the latest developments in his field... he is interested in Marine paracytology (sp) and also something high falutin sounding that means the way the tidal flow affects coastal ecology... and how climate change can contribute to it... of course (?) the little parasite thingies are affected by this as well..... it does take a toll on the whole eco system, including the fish we eat.

So, hey ho... I have one son who is hell bent on saving the seven seas, and another designing weapons of mass destruction to knock seven bells out of everyone (Eurofighter)

Interesting mix, lol....... they are brilliant together, though.

Grampy is now awake.... and is making a cuppa.... Littlie has been dispatched to get my cup to refill it, lol.... it didn't matter to her that it was already half full, Buddy had sent her, so she was a-fetching, lol Little girls and their Grampa's, lolol

I must go and get her clothes ready... this'll take an hour.... she likes to choose her own clothes... I have hidden the red party dress, as it really isn't suitable for a trip to the seaside and/or the park, lol

Lovely to see you back, Ann.... and thank you for my gifts, they are lovely... I have started to enter birthdates into the little book... and my first page in the beautiful scrapbook has been started... it consists of photo's of you, and your Christmas tree, and I have used the wrapping paper as a backing... it was too beautiful to throw away, and I will sort out a photo of T as well, lolol..... Littlie helped a bit... but she has her own scrapbook that she is doing for Mummy... so we have used some of the paper for that as well....it is Mummy's present from littlie. I have been sending one of those little *brag books* with photos of Littlie's visits each time she goes back... son is doing a proper scrapbook one, and Littlie has a little one of her own going too... my area has been taken over, lol... Son finds it very therapeutic, actually!

~~~~~~~~ to everyone... must go.... she is now running around naked and threatening to get in the shower "on mine nown" lolo... independant little minx!
Good morning Daff, very frosty here but lovely and sunny. Tony went to golf but has come home as they couldn't start for another half hour.
Hope you managed to hide the red dress and find something warm and suitable for a trip out for littley.
And, tell B to do his research at a normal hour so you can get some sleep, But good that he looks like getting a place.
Glad you liked the present, didn't know what to get but thought the dates book might help your memory!!!!! And liked the look of the scrap book and papers. Shall look forward to seeing the finished pages.
