Sorry to hear Mo has not renewed ............... GR is slowly dyig, which is not surprising as it is not supported by the powers that be, and I've long said that this is what they want.

They can go to the Competitions Board, and say "look, no-one's on there. Can we close it down?"

Pity :-(

It was a lovely day yesterday .... warm and sunny. Today?? Cloudy, light rain, and heavy rain expected this afternoon.

Hi Ann, just read the posts, I havent been very well, very tired, so have had a nap most afternoons,I did reply to Sallies message and asked her to tell you thanks for your Easter card, and I replied to the e-card you sent.it was lovely, I havent been doing much craft wise. shame about Mo, maybe this thread has runout of puff, like me lol..

We saw Charlie last week ,he is growing fast, and loves his Gramps Steven has always called Jeff that, funny how littlies work things out, because there is two grandads also two Grandmas and one great grandma, poor love couldnt decide what to call us all, he solved the problem , Debra is grandma
on her own, I am grandma somewhere else :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D,

we have a new bistro type cafe here now , reports say its lovely food although the prices have gone up.we might give it a go... most of the folk in here cant afford it now which is a pity.....

I will try and come on with more news , cant promise though....

take care with all that gardening, hope you back can stand it....

Sallie, well I suppose they are still babies really. Adam is still quite small and dainty and Inara is large, tall and a bit chubby, should be the other way round. We haven't seen Inara since December so are looking forward to May when we are going up to the Lake district. All change there as daughter's new partner is moving in with her, it will be strange to have somebody else in the bungalow, we had got used to it being just her.

I wonder where Jean is, she was coming on here regularly and now she has stopped. I do hope she is ok.

Today we havet been to two garden centres. You can tell that people missed their Sunday trip out. Both car parks were really busy with people waiting to park as cars left. All in all spent over £70! That included bird food, three 60 litre bags of compost, One 60 litre bag of manure, plant food, spray for the apple tree, a Heuchera (I wasn't going to buy replacements for those we lost last winter but we both loved the Lime marmalade), a fern, a tray of 20 mixed geraniums, 5 basket type plants, 2 larger geraniums (pelargoniums not hardy) and a large tray of purple primulas for a £1. Oh and a book!! Now they all have to be planted! T did manage to get a couple of the plants in before he was rained off. And I managed 30 minutes pottering, cutting off tulips that have finished etc.

We are out tomorrow with the U3A garden visits group, going to a garden in Cirencester. Sallie, do you like gardening. Pottering around in the garden is very calming. :-) :-)

Hi Ann, that was a quick reply! I didn't expect a reply so soon.

I can't get over how old your great grandchildren are, apart from Luke I still think of your other two great grandchildren as babies.

Yes I will let you know when our grandchild arrives....hope that it will arrive early, as with everything else I am very anxious about how things go, but that is part of the illness I have.....difficulty in controlling my emotions.

Hope that you and T enjoyed your week in Dorset.

I renewed my membership towards the end of March, although I did wonder if it was worth it, but thought as I learn to control this illness more and more, I will be able to post on here more often.

Will speak to you again soon.

Love, Sallie.xx

Hi all who are still here.

Yes Sallie, sad that Mo has decided not to rejoin Genes, it will never get to be interesting again if everyone who normally posts leaves. What it needs is for those who say it is not interesting to put threads up. We are all guilty of sitting back leaving it to other people.

Exciting days for you Sallie with your grandchild due in a few weeks. Do let us know when it happens won't you. Thank you for your card, we came back from Dorset today to a little pile of cards.

We have three great grandchildren Sallie, Luke will be four in July, Adam was one in February and Inara will be one in June, she is bigger than her cousin and crawls fast everywhere now.
Jean yes the time flies by doesn't it?

Sister is coping ok, she is on a hormone drug and has been told she could well live five years plus with it.
Please do try and come on here more often Sallie then at least we can keep this thread alive. My subs were just renewed. So I am here for another year. :-D

Sallie

Sallie Report 14 Apr 2017 20:13

Received an email off Mo this morning thanking me for the Easter card I sent them. Jean and Ann hope you have received your cards off me too.

Mo has asked me to let you know that she forgot to renew her GR membership so she has to rejoin. But she thinks that for the moment she won't rejoin because there isn't a lot going on here and that she is finding it boring. I feel disappointed that we have lost Mo as I'm sure you all are......such a shame that this thread has gone the way it has. I know and am sorry that I haven't been able to contribute much to it for a long while, but I am still struggling along at the moment. Still seeing the Psychologist and my CPN, I see my
Psychologist one week and my CPN the following one. They have both told me that I am moving forward slowly, but with all that is happening in the family I keep falling back and that it could take another year or more of therapy before I am able to manage my illness without their help.

Our first grandchild is due in three weeks, so we are looking forward to when the baby arrives. Richard has told us that when he rings to let us know when Christie starts in labour, they would like both Alun and myself and of course Christie's mum to go down straight away, as they would like us to see the baby as soon as it is born. Just hope that Christie's labour will last long enough for us all to get there in time.lol!!!

Ann I am sorry to 'hear' about your sister, I really hope that everything will go well for her. Also hope that all is well with both you and T, and all your family. Thank you for the Easter card, it is very pretty.

How old are your great- grandchildren now? They grow up so quickly, they don't seem to be babies very long.
I wish that we had had grandchildren when we were younger...I will be 70 in July so won't be able to do as much with them as I would have ten years ago.

Jean I hope that all is well with both you and J and that all is well with D and family. How old is Charlie now? I hope that you and J see him fairly often....little ones are such a joy.

Are you still making lots of cards and still doing the card making class for your neighbours?

Sylvia, how are things with you and your OH? Hope that everything is alright for you both.
Both you and OH and Alun and myself celebrate a special anniversary this year. I can't believe that we celebrate 50 years of marriage, yours on the 12th August and ours on the 28th of August.

Also hope that all is well with your daughter and her family. Your grandson must have started school by now. Have you and OH got any holidays planned for over the summer?

Liz and Elizabeth if you are looking in, hope that everything is okay for you both and your families.
I really must try and post on here more often....it would be nice if we had a few more join our thread too.

Well that's all for now must have a cuppa after doing all this typing.lol!!

Take care everyone.

Love and best wishes. Sallie. xxx :-) :-) <3 <3 <3

Ann so sorry to hear about your sister, I pray that she gets the right treatment and it makes a difference to her life... its good that she gets support too.

The bird I wrote about came two or three times ,always to the same tree that is what took my interest the breast is a pale pinkie colour, its not been for a few days now .so may have moved on,the weather here is lovely as we are on the top floor and in direct line to the sun nearly all day we have to close the curtains when watching tv or reading.... but with the clocks altering it will be somewhere else...

They still havent been to see us about the leak ,but that has not leaked for quite a few days even when it rained, I just wonder were it has travelled to...

the train trip sounds great Sylvia, I think the price of travelling by train in this area is so big only people that have to get to work seem to use them...

I cant believe how quickly the days go by it doesnt seem that long since we altered the clocks....J is conivinced we have two christmases a year..lol.

Mo have a lovely day with the family , sadly we never had more children so we will have to see if we get any visits....

Sallie you have been on my mind latley hope things are moving in the right direction for you all,

Elizabeth great to see you on here, did you know how calming your words are I would have loved to have met you, you seem a gentle soul, so thank you for your input to us all.......

J went shopping yesterday , big mistake he came back with loads of stuff thts not on the list I gave him we have a small freezer and had to juggle trying to get stuff in....we found if we took stuff out of boxes and put into plastic bags somehow it all went in, now we have lots of cholcolates to eat quickly and cake doesnt he ever listen to me I am going to be double my size at this rate....well you cant bin all of it can you??

see you all later take care love Jean xxx

Thank you ladies for your support it has been a shock. We are not that close with the age gap but as close as many sisters I suppose. She lives two hours from me so we don't meet up often but she has a tremendous support group of friends and we are in touch on line all the time. Hopefully the medication will help, it can't cure it but can control it.

Ann ........ I am so sorry to hear about your sister. I do hope that the treatment works, and gives her, and you, more hope xxxx

Elizabeth .......... how lovely to see you. Isn't it marvellous when you get that break in your ancestor's trail?!!

Jean ........... I hope you know have your leakage sorted out.

I bet having your hair done made you feel like a million dollars :-D I had mine cut on Wednesday ........... I hadn't been since just before we went away for Christmas ........ the cough and fatigue really didn't make me feel like going!

It was a strange experience this time though .............. I had to use a chair where you actually lie down to have your hair washed and shampooed. It's high (as you might expect), and there is a foot stool to help you climb up. It was weird!!

Mo ..... I hope you and R are beginning to feel better, and that things are going better with your family.

Sallie ............... I hope you are looking in now and again, and that things are alos beginning to improve for you.

The rain trip ................ there is a day train from the town where our friends live that goes to Jasper, it takes from 9:45 am to about 6:30 pm. We then stay overnight in Jasper, and get on another train at 2:30 pm for an overnight trip back here.

This second train is the one that we take to Toronto when we go to spend Christmas with our daughter .......... it takes 4 nights and 5 days to get from here to Toronto :-0

We really only have long distance trains, only the biggest cities have any kind of local service .......... there isn't the population elsewhere.

Mo ................... our clocks changed 2 weekends ago :-D

Oh Ann, I am so sorry to hear about your sisters results, bless her and you. Cancer is such a blighter, and oh so cruel to those who suffer, and family who are supporting them.
I hope and pray they get cracking on her treatment as soon as possible.

Ooh Elizabeth, it's so nice to hear from you again.
I do hope you are keeping well, and many congratulations on your success discovering your ancestors.
I have given up on looking for mine, especially on my Grandfathers side of the family, they are like looking for a needle in a hay stack.

Don't forget our clocks go forwards one hour this weekend girls, once again our systems have to readjust , all this backwards and forwards is a pain in the BTM.

Well girls, have a lovely weekend, and enjoy Mothers day. We are being treated to Sunday lunch out by the family, so I shall enjoy that.
Take care everyone, xxx

Jean I can't think what that bird can be, is the chest very pink? Shall have to see if I can find it in the bird book. Have you seen it since?

Good that you don't have to go back to the clinic where you have trouble parking.

Hope that they have been to fix the leak by now, or at least it won't be long before they do.

Sylvia, enjoy your time away, we have a break coming up soon too, a week in Cornwall followed by a week in Dorset, hoping the weather warms up a bit. At least our clocks go forward this weekend so it feels more like Spring.

Mo, Hope the vents solved your condensation problem.

Elizabeth, good to see you on here, I too like taking photos of the flowers and trees, especially the garden flowers.
I had upsetting news yesterday. eleven years ago my sister had breast cancer, she had a very small lump removed and a course of Radio Therapy. Yesterday she was told the results of a CT scan and MRI she’d had earlier in the week. There is cancer in her lymph nodes and it has spread to her lungs. She has had no symptoms except very recently her arm swelled with lymphodemia, which is why she was sent to the breast clinic, although not with any haste, she waited several weeks for an appointment. Although once she had that she was seen fairly quickly for the scan etc. She will have to go on medication depending what type of cancer it is. She thinks she will not have longer than two years to live, I am hoping she will be lucky and it will be longer, but having gone through the same thing with son in law, I know it can move very quickly. She is 6.5 years younger than me.

Dear Ladies

Hello to you all

Hope you are all doing all right.

I am trying to get some photos of the trees and flowers which are about
to bloom again.

I try to build up a catalogue of the first buds through to the flourishing greenery.

I have also had a lucky break with my research.
I had a EUREKA! moment and with that, I managed to trace a whole load of ancestors from Battersea and Richmond!

I did not know that line of my family tree had travelled to these areas and settled and found work there. I located photos of the factories and some of the streets in local history books. I was delighted.

Hope your research is proving fruitful for you too.

Whatever you are doing this weekend, may you be contented and find peace.

Please travel safely.

Take gentle care
With very best wishes
Love Elizabeth, EOS

Oh goodness me Jean, would you like me to lend you a pair of wellie boots my love. Fancy the work not being done sooner, after all, the rain is not coming through your roof, it's coming via your boiler, what nonsense.
Actually, we have got more or less the same problem, but it's caused by condensation on the pipes coming from the airing cupboard, into the small cupboard downstairs where we keep our recycling bags. When Roly was getting the bags out for collection, he noticed that the bags were damp, and that the pipes were damp. He has lagged them, in hopes to stop the drips, but it's not working properly, so now today he has been and bought air vents to put in the door in hopes that the air can circulate and dry things out. It's daft really, we have lived here for years and years, and it has never happened before. Our boiler man checked it out, and recommended the vent so fingers crossed it works. I hope everyone is well, I send you all my love and best wishes. xxx

Hello Syvia, like you we have a lot of rain and some of it is leaking into our boiler cupboard :-0 :-0 it has been rung through to the people in charge of the care facility, we couldnt believe it when we were told the workmen cant come out while its still raining, as there is no way to get into the roof area, another flat has had problems with rain leaking in but much worse than ours......watch this space......

your trip sounds great, you use the trains like we use coaches or cars, two trains so were are you off too I had no idea Canada was so big...... I hope your cough clears up soon and that you can enjoy the rides...take care I look forward to hear about it all.

spring is springing here ........... which means rain, rain, rain!

However, this afternoon did turn out to be lovely and sunny, with blue skies, despite all the warnings of more rain. OH went intot eh garden, did some clearing up, and brought some branches of forsythia in for me to force inside.

We're going away next week for a few days, seeing some old friends then returning home on 2 trains

I still have traces of the cough that I had that began in January and lasted for 6 weeks.

Morning folks, Mo so pleased to hear from you, I was starting to have withdrawel symptoms when you failed to show ;-) ;-) ;-) I do pray that the colds a nd coughs fade away quickly, your meal sounds lovely I know you will enjoy it .

I am pleased about the eyes Ann and also my last visit to the other clinic, so no more searching for parking ,always a nightmare , it doesnt help when people park over the white lines :-| :-| or when the disable bays have non disable in them. no courtesy these days. the weather was awful yesterday it poured down all night and all day this morning it looks overcast but at the moment is dry...

I have been watching a bird over the last few days , it was light grey head and a pale pink breast with a ring around the neck I had a look on line and the nearest I found was a Plover and another whose name i forgot..may be someone on here may have an answer......

I am shortly going downstairs to the hairdresser to have a perm, at least I dont have to go out these days..

so see you all later enjoy your weekend

Hello Mo, I am surprised that your doctor has given you three lots of antibiotics. There is a poster in our doctors saying not to ask for antibs for coughs and colds as they have no effect. And doctors have been told to cut the amount they prescribe because overuse is causing them not to work.

Hopefully when the weather improves these bugs will go away.

Jean that is good that you have another six months for your eyes it shows they had not deteriorated. Hope you enjoyed your sausage and mash that chef cooked for you.

Lucky you to have shops come to you what a great idea. A nice spring jacket then? :-)

Hello my darlinks, how are we all keeping.
Sorry for not having posted in a while, but nothing new has been happening this end, apart from both of us still fighting this flaming lurgy, that's been hanging around since before Christmas.
I am on my third lot of anti-biotics, , Roly won't take them, so I get clear of it, and he start's sneezing and coughing again, and yes, I go down with it again. I am fed up to the back teeth with it.

We have had a few very mild sunny days, so I started to clear the garden of it's weeds, and cut back some of the shrubs. Cor lordy, I was fair worn out by the time I had finished.

Two of my daughters, and one son in law are taking us out for a meal on mothers day, I am looking forwards to that.
The place we are dining at, is the venue I play darts for on a Thursday night. I knew they did meals, but by the time we get there of an evening they are closed to diners, and had no idea what their catering was like, but after questioning my friends apparently they do a very nice carvery, and that's what we will be having on Mothers day.

Well my dears, I will say bye for now, take care of yourselves, hugs to you all.xxx

We were slip sliding away there, down on page 3.

We have just had two lovely sunny days but are back to grey and cold today. Still the sun was lovely and we enjoyed it while it lasted. OH got plenty done in the garden despite having a nasty cough, a legacy of our weeknd away unfortunately, I am hoping that I am not going to catch it. Luckily not losing sleep as we are in separate rooms until the cough has gone, the benfot of having a spare room.

It is such a shame that this thread, after so many years, is gradually fading away. I for one miss hearing all the news from Mo and Sallie.

This second thread was srated in 2009 so has been going 8 years, but was going before that until inadvertenty deleted. sad isn't it to let it drop out of sight?

Sadly Huia, Marilyn and Deanna are no longer with us. And Deborah in Jersey and Marie (Zack) seem to have left Genes, and Liz doesn't seem to post on here much any more and now Mo and Sallie don't post much either. It looks like it is just Jean Sylvia and myself keeping it going. :-( :-(

So today I took two large bags to the charity shop, I turned out the bottom of my wardrobe and found 6 pairs of boots, all in excellent condition that I can no longer wear, I always took a five shoe but in the last few years my feet have 'spread, (a bit like the rest of me Lol) and the size 5s are too tight. So they abd two pairs of shoes both worn about twice, one kitten heel and one flat, have all gone to the charity shop. OH went to the dentist and had his front tooth final cap fitted and we did the tesco shop. After unpacking that lot all I have done is potter around on here.

Jean, Sallie and Sylvia I hope you are all OK. Sylvia, did you get the storm that hit the US? It is supposed to be heading for us next, hopefully it will not be so aggressive after making the long trip across. :-D
