Mo, to quote from a website on Scabies: Scabies is nearly always acquired from skin-to-skin contact with someone else with scabies. The contact may be quite brief such as holding hands.
Scabies is not due to poor hygiene. Nor is it due to animal mites, which do not infest humans." The rats have not been coming indoors lately, but they are trying to make nests downstairs, in the gap above the insulation that we put up under our house floor. Grrrr. I think I am going to have to set poison for them. I dont think our cat is interested in eating rats, she doesnt even eat the cat meat that I try her on, just licks off the gravy.

Tess, your memory is better than mine. I have just realised what the 'very big steps' were, about 108 on a walking track. It seems ages since I mentioned them.

Yes, Sylvia got it right, but then she has been to Oz where ours originated. They are also called white-eye or wax-eye. My sister calls them hoomees because when she sees them eating her figs or guavas she tells them off and they look at her with a surprised look as if to say "who, me?"
I didnt do such a big wash this morning as there is a bit of rain. I still have a lot more that I want to do before winter though.

I'm still going.... but still a bit weak.
My son will be 37 next month and my late father would have been 91 tomorrow (he died in 1991).
I still have an aunt (by marriage) who ws born in 1910 and is still going strong. Although a communist in earlier days 9at least I think that she was), she was still pleased to get her telegram from the Queen for her 100th birthday. she is now looking forward to getting her next one. Who knows, if the Queen retires, it may even be from a different Monarch!
Tess
P.S. I think that we may have "spoken" before Huah, I have read may of your postings and remember you walking down some (very high) steps recently!!

Hi Sylvia, it's a good job you have an idea what Silver Eyes are. They are obviously not a bird that has it's habitat here in the U.K. or Ann would have known about it.
It'scomes as a shock when we realise how old our children are, my eldset daughter will be 47 this year, now that does make me feel old. How sad that your mum died on your J's birthday. Roly's grandfather died on his birthday as well,on new years day.
Huia, you lucky thing having figs in your garden. Do you have to have any more applications of the lotion, for the scabies. A good deep clean is whats needed ,to ensure that the it has gone. But such hard work to have to do at any age, let alone when we are starting to age a bit. A good boil wash should help with the bedding etc. Have there been any more sightings of the othere little Bu**ers, the rats I mean. I wonder if it was them that started it all off in the beginning, vermin thats what they are,and they carry so many diseases. You were so brave handling them on your own love.
It's funny you saying about buying the paint for the garden furniture Ann. When we were in the garden yesterday, Roly said that ours needs another coat this year. Hah, I shall believe that when I see it, unless I do it myself of course. I am getting quite handy with a paint brush now. lol
Hi Caz and Sallie, what are you both doing on here, get back to that card making. lol I hope you have both had good days today. Has anyone heard how Joyce and Jan are today.
Wheres our Jean tonight I wonder, I bet she busy card making as well.
Marie, I hope you knee is feeling a little better today.
Tess, I also hope you are feeling brighter today.
Take care everyone. Love to you all. Mo xxx

Hello Ladies,
It's another beautiful day here too. It shows up just how much needs to be done to freshen the house up.lol!
Caz, nice to hear from you, although I'm sorry that you are having trouble with your leg.....at least the swelling is going down so lets hope that it will soon be a lot better.
Are you managing to make some cards? I am now doing the cards for the April birthdays, not as many to make as the ones for March. I must also start on the Easter cards, although I don't send many of them.
Ann, I haven't been on your blog for a short while, so it will be nice to see all the other cards.
I noticed when we went to the Range that they sold paint and that it was cheaper there than the DIY stores. Alun uses spray paint for some parts of his train layouts so he always goes to the Range for it....it's between £3-4 cheaper (depending on which one he needs ) than B&Q.
Huia, as Caz said, it sounds like a good idea to iron the mattress with iron on a very hot setting. Hope you managed to pick the rest of your figs, it would be a shame if the rotten little silver eyes get them. Whatever they might be, I have never heard of them until now.
I'll speak to you all later on, going to make myself a nice cup of tea now.
Love, Sallie.xxx

Caz, hope you can get that lkeg sorted out and your prescriptions too. What a pain.... literally. I wondered about the 'rotten little silver eyes' as well. sounds like a bug we can do without.
Huia Caz's idea re a hot iron is a good one. Hope you can kill them off for good.
Sally no problem, e mail me the photos as soon as you have them and I will put them on. there are a lot more on there since before you went away.
Lovely day here today again. Been to Homebase and bought paint for the seats in the garden. Then went to the Range and was aggraated to see they sell the paint (didn't think they would) and it is cheaper (by £3 each can) than Homebase. Aso went to Dunelm and then as I said the Range where I got some stuff I couldn't find in the Paper WArehouse in the Lake District.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ to Sylvia, Mo, Tess, Marie and Jean and anyone else looking in and (((((hugs))))) for Joyce.
It seems a while since I have added to the thread, Sallie it is nice to see you back, I know what you mean about the shopping but I don't go, OH goes on his own as I think I am a burden with him having to get my wheelchair out and put it up then get me out, that's before we start shopping. He's much quicker on his own. I am going through a bit of a rough time just now, my back is not too bad but I am having trouble with my leg, last week they thought I had thrombosis in it but when the matron came to have a look it turns out to be only fluid, but it makes it hard to walk. The leg is going down slowly but they made a right mess of one of my prescription tablets, it's taken them two weeks to sort out then the matron came with two weeks supply of one of them which takes me to next week, to say I am fed up is an understatement and I wish they would get themselves sorted out. Huia it sounds as if you are getting on top of the little bu**ers now, I would be getting my iron out and ironing the mattress on high heat, or even steaming it. I love figs and wish I had a fig tree but I've no garden where we live now just a communal one. What are the "rotten little silvereyes" I imagine them as the greenfly we have that spoils our plants. Need a cuppa so will go now.
Love Caz xx
Hello, Tess, I dont know if we have 'spoken' before.
I have had a busy morning. I had to go and pick the ripest of my figs as the rotten little silvereyes were getting at them. The fruit and leaves are all at the end of high branches but I managed to pull the branches down without breaking them so I could reach the fruit. I love figs. I am wondering if I can prune the branches back to make the tree lower for easy picking. I might prune a couple of branches and see what happens, but not today or tomorrow.
I did another big wash after picking the figs, since I had my second treatment for scabies yesterday. I havent washed everything yet but will do more tomorrow. I also want to vaccuum the mattress before I make the bed again. Perhaps when it has been vaccuumed I can put the electric blanket on high for a couple of hours before I put the sheets on, as heat helps to kill off the scabies mite. I do feel as if this latest treatment might be working at getting rid of them from my body, so I dont want to pick them up again from anything in the house - or from holding hands with Phil :((( I must ask the nurse at his home if he has been checked for scabies lately.
Must go and vaccuum the bed before I have lunch.
Huia.
Hi Ladies,
Back again, and with a good job done for another week. Thank goodness. The older I'm getting, the more I dislike doing the weekly shopping.....it's just knowing what to get for a change, and of course the prices don't help either.
We had just got in from shopping tonight ,when Joyce rang me, both her Jan are not very well at all......Joyce has gout in her foot and Jan has pneumonia. So between them both they are in a sorry state. I hope that they will both get well soon.
Ann, yes I had read about Julia, I hope it won't be too long before she comes back. At least it's nice to know that she's alright now, after being poorly for a while.
I've made quite a few cards that Alun has taken photos of , so as soon as I can I'll get him to put them on your blog....it that's okay.
Marie, hope you'll enjoy the concert and have a good evening out. Also hope that your leg will be better when you go for physio on Friday so that you don't have to see the doctor. Pleased that you are now managing to get some sleep at night, so it looks as though you are slowly getting there.
Caz, hope that things are a lot easier and more comfortable for you. I'm not sure when you said you are at the hospital next......hope it all goes well for you.
Jean glad to hear that your vertigo hasn't been too bad over the last few days.....it's good that you are still able to make cards. Hope all is well with J and D.
Mo, it can't be long now before your great-grandchild is due. How is your new granddaughter? I bet she's coming on in leaps and bounds.
Did your team win on Monday night? I hope they did. It would be nice if your team won the trophy this year.
Tess, lovely to see you on here again. I bet you are tired after having your grandchildren during their half term. Still it's nice to have them to stay,I'm sure.
Sylvia, hope you and OH are okay. Have you seen the doctor about your back yet? I hope you have and that he has been able to give you some different medication for the pain.
Huia, it sounds as though you were busy at hospice shop, with you being the only one to run it,
Hope all is well as it can be with Phil and that he was awake and alert when you last visited him.
We had a very good week away, although we did a lot of travelling between here and London and then here and Wales. Still, it was lovely to see the family, so worth it all. It was a bonus that the weather was good for us, lovely to have it bright and dry.
We also found some information at the Records Office that we were looking for, in fact a little bit more than we thought we would, so we were happy about that.
Well I'll say goodnight now, speak to you all, tomorrow.
Love and best wishes.
Helloooo there Tess, it's so good to hear from you again. Sorry to hear that you are still not feeling to good, but heres hoping that this nice weather may help you.
Grandchildren can be very very tiring can't they, as much as we may love them, they have far more energy than we have, and trying to keep them entertained is a job in itself.
We are very lucky, to have a high clothes line, that catches the wind and dries the clothes very quickly.
Take care of yourself, and come back and see us soon. Love Mo xxx
Hi everyone, I've just spent HOURS reading all the latest posts (pages and pages) I hadn't realised that it was so long since I last posted on this thread.
Just had my usual (very) low energy, plus poor concentration and nausea + + + when I have tried reading my computer screen. Thank goodness Julia has been found! I was getting worried while I was reading about her.
Had my two younger grandsons 9A = E aged six and seven) here during half-term week. I loved having them here (and did have some help from their Dad, my son) but it rater knocked me for six.
Hope to have a washing post and line put up in my back garden on Monday, so might actually be able to hang my washiung out to dry next week.
Sorry to hear about all the illness that some of your have, it really puts my problems in the shade.
Will try to get back to this thread at least once a week from now on.
Take care everyone, Tess
