Most rat poisons include a blood thinner (which is what warfarin is). That causes internal bleeding ..... which shows by reddish urine

so ............ it looks as though at least one of the rats ate some of the stuff you put down.

We have to put down poison at the cbain because we get what are called wood rats getting in. Thye are a native speciaes, and in no way related to the Norwegian rats, which is what you get in cities, etc.

IF we have an invader during the winter, then we find that reddish urine.

Yes, Sylvia, an estimate is just that. Now if he had been given a quote he really could object.

Re my expensive trousers, I wasnt really intending to use them for washing the floor. Maybe on Monday I will go back and see if I can change them for something else, a nice top or jacket.

Our cat Chloe slept indoors last night. I bought a litter tray and stuff to put in it yesterday. I dont know if she used it. The rats or mice used the bathroom floor, though. Not just droppings, a reddish puddle. I wonder if it is a female, or if it has some sort of health problem. Anybody know about such things?

I must go, I have quite a few things to do before I head off to Pukekohe for the reunion.

Hi all
xxx

Mo

The increase was due to the extra work they had to do. OH's teeth have always needed a lot of work ...... we used to joke about sending the dentist on expensive holidays.

I think almost every tooth was crowned, so this dentist really didn't know what might be found when he removed each crown. There were also several root canals to be done

He now has a combination of implants, small bridges (2 teeth), and crowns .............. almost all in porcelain.

His other choice at the start of all this was dentures .................... basically everything that could be done had already been done and it was becoming obvious that crowns had to be removed, but there wouldn't be enough tooth left to replace the crown.

Unfortunately, implants are counted as cosmetic surgery by our insurance company, so very little of the work was covered to any extent.

We just didn't think that the final cost was going to be that high.

Mind you, he was determined to have it done, saying he couldn't face dentures.

I think the lesson I would now give to anyone thinking of having implants is to be aware that the cost of treatment may be much higher than the estimate.

((((((((((((((((((((((BIG BIG HUGS FOR CAZ))))))))))))))))))))
Life is such a bu**er at times, and poor Caz,Joyce and our Jean have been through so much.
Holding you close to my heart Caz.

My god Sylvia, were your OH's teeth covered in gold.
No wonder you were so shocked, I know I would have fainted at that price.
Why the heck didn't they stop at the amount they quoted him.
Did they tell him that the price was was going up, or just assume he would pay the bill anyway.
Could you appeal against the costs, with them having doubled the amount.
I am just glad we have got a NHS dentist and don't have to pay for private treatment.

Huia, as Quinsgran has said, why don't you take the expensive trousers back and get a refund, or a credit note at least, rather than using them as
a floor cloth.
You will look very smart in your new trousers though, and no doubt more comfortable than wearing a skirt.
Enjoy yourself at the reunion, and let us know how it all goes love.

Hello Quinsgran, it's nice to see you posting, please come back and have a chat with us all sometimes.
We are friendly, caring people, who like to have a chat nearly every day, to update each other on whats occuring in our lives.

Well girls, I have been very busy again today.
Apart from getting all the weekly shopping in, I have painted all the garden furniture. It is going to need another coat though, as the varnish seems to have thinned, and has not covered properly. Oh well never mind, it will give me something to do on another fine day.

Bye for now my friends, speak to you soon. Love Mo xxx

I was 15 mins late getting to visit Phil today and he had his eyes shut. He did open them briefly a couple of times. When I left I went looking for a dressy pair of trousers. The first place had some that didnt come quite up to my waist, and one pair would have had to have a foot or more chopped off the legs. I finished up buying a pair that was a bit on the loose side and needs the legs turned up about an inch or so. It was expensive at $159 and I wish now I hadnt bought it. I went to another shop and found the perfect fit, so bought 2 pairs at $49 each. Ah well, the first pair will do for washing the floor! At least I will look a bit more dressy when I go to the class reunion tomorrow than if I wore my fleecy track suit pants.

Hi all
xxx

we're having some lovely weather here ....... chilly nights, down to 2 or 3C, but the days are sunny and warm.

Had a bit of a nasty surprise on Tuesday

.................. OH went to the dentist for almost the last treatment of all this teeth work he has been having done. I think he has one more visit, possibly 2. They gave him an accounting of everything that had been done, amounts paid, etc .............. and a statement for the remaining amount of money

.................... it was for $30,000! That's somewhere about £12,000

And that brings the total we've paid to about 50% more than the original estimate said.

There also may be some more to pay following on the true last visit.

I went into meltdown 'cos I just couldn't see where the money was going to come from ........ without having us really draw in our belts.

Anyway, we've scraped the money together by maxing out a line of credit at the bank ........... but it's a good job that I have already paid for the tickets to go to see J&M in July, or we might have had to change our minds about going. It'll take us a long time (3 years) to pay off the line of credit.

BUT OH wanted to have it done, wouldn't have listened to me if I'd said "no". He did say that he was extremely surprised when they gave the statement to him ..... and was very worried about my reaction!

but the old black dog was certainly on my shoulder for a couple of days!

Mo, before you report me to the SPCA for cruelty, I did NOT shove her outside! It was her decision after being in for an hour. She came in again this morning. I gave her some food in the kitchen and she went out again of her own accord afterwards. She has probably gone to a warm spot in the sun for the day, when once the mowing man has finished.

I will be visiting Phil this afternoon, but I leave here before lunch, have my lunch in Papakura and then go to visit at 1pm when he has finished his lunch. He is more alert after lunch.

O.k Sallie, so whats this "the old black dog" then. This is a new saying to me, but it sounds like you are feeling down honey, is that it.
Don't forget, I am here should you want a chat. Keep your chin up my lovely.

Oooh Tess, you are so lucky going to all these different restuarants, and trying out other countries foods.
You must let us know what you had, and how it tasted.

I keep forgetting, you are going into your winter season now, arn't you Marie.
Just as we are starting to get some warmth, over here, you are going in the opposite direction, with chilly weather.
It sounds like you are making good progress with your reunion. Like Sallie, I am wondering when it is to be held.

Caz, it's so good to hear from you love.
We were starting to get a bit concerned, when there was no news.
It unbelieveable, that the symptoms from your chemo tablets, was not explained to you before now.
At least that way, you would have know what to expect.
Some of your problems that you have been having, could possibly be put down to the meds.
Thank the lord it was not a thrombosis in your leg. You will have to make sure you get as much rest as you possibly can, with your leg elevated, if you can. I know it's not very easy for you honey, but know that we are all thinking and praying for you.

Poor Joyce, gout is a very painful condition. No wonder she is feeling so down, not being able to get around as she would like, must be such a pain in the BTM for her.
She would normally love to be on here, or doing her card making.
How is Jan now, is he back at work yet.
It must have been very hard for the two of them, when they were both unwell at the same time.

Huia, poor old puss. She was probably wondering what the heck was going on around her.
You can imagine her thinking to herself. "huh she wanted me in, and now I am, she's shoving me out again."
Have you caught any of the dreaded beasties yet love.
Over here we have the Cats Protection League, who are always looking for good homes for cats, or kittens. Do you have anything like that over there.
Perhaps if you do, you could ask them for a good mouser or in your case a
ratter.
We have had two cats from the league, and both had been neutered before we got them.
Roly wants us to get another one from them, but I am still unsure.
No cat or kitten, will ever replace my Misty.

I have been a busy bee today. I have painted the back gate, inside and out, and painted one side of the garden fences.
We have got to replace two panels, so I will wait till we change them to do the end of the garden.
I suppose we are lucky in that we only have two fences to maintain.
But believe me my friends, I am well and truly cream crackered now.

I wonder if Ann and T are still having a good time. I bet they are. But just think girls, we have got glorious weather here, so no jealous outbursts coming from me today. LOL

((((((((((((((HUGS FOR OUR JEAN)))))))))))))))) I hope you are still o.k my lovely. Not long now till your hospital appointment.

I hope all is well with Sylvia, coooe Sylv's (((((HUGS FOR YA))))))))

Well girls, I am orft to my bed, coz I is shattered.
Night Night God bless one and all.

Caz, pleased to hear from you and to know that things were alright for you at the hospital yesterday. It was good that you seen your favourite doctor, and that she explained a lot of things to you, and that she have ruled out thrombosis.

Marie, glad to hear that your leg is getting better. You really have been busy with doing the cards for the Hayward reubion. When is the reunion going to take place?

Tess, hope your meal out at the Lebonese Restaurant tonight. I don't know what kind of food you have there, but hope you'll enjoy it.

I've not been too good today, suffering a bit from ' the old black dog ' , something has upset me, but I'll be OK. so I'll speak to you all tomorrow.

Hi girls, I am so sorry I didn't come on last night but I was so tired and my legs had packed up so I went to bed early. Jean told me this morning you had all been asking about me and I was surprised by it, thank you for caring. I went for my usual visit to cancer doc before I collect my chemo, it was my favourite woman doctor and she asked a lot of questions about things I never associated with chemo, pins and needles and blood shot eyes etc, so I am a lot wiser now. She also sent me for an ultra sound because my leg is swollen and she wanted to rule out thrombosis, luckily it's not. OH went to pick my chemo tablets up while I sat in the sun, it was lovely, all the walking round hospital has made my back worse and it is so painful again so I can't sit for long at computer. I spoke to Joyce yesterday and she is very down, she has gout in both feet now and they are very swollen, what with the pain from her back and legs and now this she can't do much at all and has to stay in bed. I don't suppose you will see this Joyce but I am thinking of you and sending positive thoughts your way.

Wouldnt you know it? Just because I laid rat poison on the kitchen and bathroom floors last night, the cat decided to come in tonight, so I had to hurriedly shut doors so she couldnt get at them or the rat traps. I eventually put the poison back into its container and put the traps out of her reach and now she has gone outside again. She had come in because when I opened the front door to give her some food she felt the warm air from the fire I had lit, and it is a cold wind outside, plus some rain. I might put some poison down again now she is out, and take it up again in the morning.

Hi Girls,

Thank you for your concern and best wishes for Jennie. She has been telling the IBD nurse for a while about the problems she's been having, but it seems that she hasn't taken much notice of what Jennie has told her, until today. Not sure when she'll get to see the dietician, but I don't think it will be too long.

Sylvia, I know what you mean about stress causing problems, Jennie usually finds that when she is anxious or worried about something, her Crohn's tend to play up..... if she has a bad cold, it's the same.

I was hoping that we might have heard from Caz, I hope everything was alright for her at the hospital.
If you're looking in Caz, I'm thinking about you and sending you lots of hugs and positive thoughts.

Mo, has your son gone up to Scotland yet? I'm sure you'll miss your lovely granddaughter while she's away. Never mind, you can give her some extra cuddles and kisses when they get home, it will be somrthing to look forward to.

I had a quick phone call from Joyce last night, to let us know that it is deffinitely gout in her other foot and not a broken toe, as some of us thought it might have been.

Huia, could you get someone in to try and get rid of the rat or mouse you are having problems with. Perhaps they might be able to find how they are getting in and block it up so that no more can get in. Anyway, good luck with getting rid of them once and for all.

Ann, glad to hear that it has brightened and warmed up a bit for you and T.
Hope it will continue that way, at least for the time you're there.

Jean, I hope you are feeling a bit better. Thanks for letting us know about Caz.......just hoping that it went well at the hospital for her.
It can't be too long now before your appointment at the hospital, sorry I can't remember the date you told us.....it's due to my age, I'm afraid.

Tess and Marie thinking of you both, and hope all is well with the two of you.

I'll speak to you all tomorrow. Take care everyone.

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

I put down some of the rat poison last night, in the kitchen and bathroom. It hasnt been touched and no droppings anywhere.

Mo, I dont want to pay somebody to do what I can do myself. Being in the country there are sure to always be rats and mice around, so I would be forever paying out. What I really need is a young cat who is a keen ratter/mouser. Chloe was good when we first got her, but she seems to have lost interest now.

Today is cold and it is supposed to be showery again, I think, but tomorrow (when I will visit Phil) and Saturday when I go to a class reunion are supposed to be fine. I hope it will be warm on Saturday so I can wear my summer clothes as my warm trousers are not very 'flash'. But I will wear them anyway if it is cold as I prefer comfort to being flash.
