Hi Huia,
Yes I use Stork for baking, it's just a brand name of margarine or whatever they call it these days. The brand name has been around for a good many years now, as my nan mostly used it for baking.
Good luck with getting your hearing aids sorted out.
Love, Sallie.xxx

Hi Mo
I can believe that , I kept trying and trying to vote for Lilly, but I couldn't get onto the site to vote, which at the time I thought was a bit of a con.......now you've confirmed that it was. Oh well, maybe one day there will be a genuine baby competition that Lilly could be entered for, and that she will win.
Caz, like Mo I also couldn't make out what was in front of Huia, so thanks for letting us know.
Speak to you all soon.
Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

Sallie, what is stork? I know there is a bird of that name, but do you use it for baking? I am really scratching my head over that one.
Mo, the picture is me standing behind an over-sized statue of a Huia, in the botanic gardens. I am singing 'Me, and my statue' rather than me and my shadow.
Must dash, I want to go out to try to get an improvement in these hearing aids this morning, then work in the hospice shop in the afternoon. I might even be able to fit in a visit to Phil in the morning. Not that it is very exciting as he often doesnt even look at me, and rarely speaks.
Huia.

Sallie, that baby competition seemed to be fixed, no one was able to vote, so we don't know who the winners were. Apparantly the same people were voting several times, for the same child, during the same day, and the people holding the competition stopped the voting on facebook. A friend entered her grandchild last year in another competition, and people were only able to vote, once a day.
Still no news from Jean then I see. We can only hope and pray thats a good sign. Love Mo xxx

Hi Girls,
It's very, very quiet on this thread. I think we must have all given up talking.lolol!!
Alun was on holiday last week, so I haven't had much time to come on here. I've also been busy making cards, for a few birthdays and two wedding anniversaries.
It's Jennie's 26th birthday today, so yesterday evening we all went out for a meal to celebrate, to the place where Jennie and Michael had their wedding reception .... a lovely place, in beautiful grounds and lovely food. Years ago it was a farm, so all the old stone buildings have been converted into restaurants. It's also got a golf course and a hotel. Today Jennie and Michael came for our usual Sunday roast..
I've also been busy baking today, I had some stork and eggs that were getting near their sell buy date, and didn't want to throw them out. So we've now got some cakes to eat......and now I feel well and truly "cream crackered".lol!
Good to see on Caz's thread that Jeff is improving slowly. I hope and pray that he will make a complete recovery.
Huia, I got the hearing aid for my left ear, on Thursday. It's great to be able to hear a lot better, but the top of my ear gets really sore, I had the same trouble when I first had it with the one for my right ear, until I got use to wearing it. So hopefully the new one will be the same.
How were things with Phil when you last visited him? I hope that he was awake and alert while you were there.
Mo, I'm sure you enjoyed having your granddaughter to stay, even though she talked all of the time. You'll have to invest in a good pair of ear plugs for when stays with you the next time.lolol!! Bless her!
How is Lilly? When are the results of the baby competition announced? Lets all hope that she'll win.
Ann, sorry I haven't had time to send you the photos for your blog. I'll send them as soon as I can.
Tess, you sound as though you have been very busy. Isn't it great to be able to think about what chores need to be done, rather than sit there and try and get our head round what's got to be done!

Hello everyone. We have had our grandaughter with us for the last couple of days, the one who is nearly nineteen, and is only 4foot ten tall. She may be little, but by golly can she yak. I thought I was bad enough, but she could talk for England. Hence my not being on here very much.
Thanks Linda for keeping the love chain for Jean and Jeff going. Reading Caz's thread, it seems that Jeff is taking small steps in the right direction. Lord help him to continue in this way, and give our Jean strength to see him through to a full recovery.
Have you started the decorating yet Linda. lol
Huia,I must ask you about the photo you have posted on here. I am having problems trying to make out who and what it is.
I do hope that everyone is o.k, as it has been very quiet on here.

Hi Huia Think some folks are having touble getting on to the site. Others might be away or have visitors as it is a Bank Holiday weekend again in England and also a weeks break from school for half term too.
Continuing Mo's chain of love and thoughts for Our Jean and Jeff.
Love and prayers for you both, in my mind constantly.

Not much activity on this thread.
I took the stuff to Hunua for recycling. When I came back I had to wash the wagon, as there are road works, on the way, and a sign saying 'cement splashes, wash your car today'. I would hate to have to go to town every day through that and have to wash it when I got home late. I did give it a wash though. Perhaps I will take a different albeit slightly longer route to Papakura tomorrow to avoid the need for the washing. I shouldnt need to call in at Hunua, so that is ok.

Tess, I thought those instructions for knitting a scarf were quite hilarious. Surely it would depend what size ball of wool you have? I can just see the scarf being about 12 inches long, or alternatively 6 ft long!
Mo, I think the woman said she would set it to a quiet setting to start. Anyway we will find out on Monday, if they can fit me in.
I must get a move on, finish looking at the boards and then take my recycling stuff to Hunua. It is a monthly thing, from 8.30 to 12.30. I didnt take anything last month so the plastic box is full to almost overflowing. And heaps of paper, and quite a few tins (mainly small cat food tins.).

Good evening girls. My word Tess you've had a busy day love, I hope you haven't overdone it. Take it easy tomorrow, relax and do a bit of knitting if you can,and catch up on your tree. Are you using any special kind of wool for your scarf. Our local Wil*inso*s had a special wool just for scarves, and I was sorely tempted to buy some last year, but as I has so many scarves changed my mind. But thinking about it, I may buy some, and start to make some christmas presents for the grandchildren. That sounds like a good idea to me, why didn't I think of that before. lol
Huia, it will probably take you a while to get used to the hearing aids, but if they can adjust them slightly it would be easier for you. Perhaps they have set the volume to loud, and you are not as hard of hearing as you thought.
I am starting a chain of love and thoughts for Our Jean and Jeff. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 Love and prayers for you both, in my mind constantly.

Anninglos, yes, my ancestor was in Summerset for the 1841 Census but married in Llantrisant Glam. in 1846. She seems to be the only member of the family to move at that time. So I think of her as an intrepid young lady. She was only 20 when she married, but claimed to be "of full age" No one in her family were signed witness's to the marriage.
Looking at later Census records, I notice quite a few people from Somerset, but again none of her close family as far as I am aware. Her grandson (my grandfather) reversed the trend, moved to England and married my grandmother who was half Scottish and half English. Looking at the Census records has shown me that people moved around far more than I had thought. And much greater distances too.
Have had a goodnday so far, managed to take a repeat prescription request to the GP this morning. (A one mile walk). Then got a bus to my local shopping centre ... got four kitchen rolls for less tham £1.
Also had to get some mouse poisen, as saw an uninvited and unwelcome visitor in my kitchen. As it isn't raining today, have put washing on the line. Plus I have been doing some knitting!!! It is years since I did any, so I found a modicum of courage and am now knitting a ..........Scarf. The instructions are knit one row, knit another row, carry on doing this till you nearly run out of wool. Cast off. The End.
I need to get back to doing my tree over the next couple of days, but will drop in here by-and-by.
Tess
P.S. GR have been giving me the run around today too. At least now I know that it isn't something that I have done.

I have to go now, but will be back later.

My son rang up this evening. I put it on speakerphone and could hear him fine, but he said it sounded as if I was down a long echoing tunnel. I switched to the handpiece and I could barely hear him so went back to the speakerphone. I think either I am not using the aids properly or they are not working as they should. I will definitely go back on Monday. It means I wont visit Phil until Tuesday, probably as I am working in the hospice shop on Mon. afternoon.

Morning girls, I heard from Jean this morning that there is no change in Jeff, they have taken him off a couple of drips so far, he was on a lot. Jean is managing to get some sleep at last, it has been a worrying week for her. Huia I would certainly go back to the hearing aid people, it would drive me nuts would that noise, mind you a lot of things do as I have very sensitive hearing. I seem to have missed all the trouble on GR yesterday, I was on in the morning then again at teatime so it must have happened when I had my afternoon lie down.
Love Caz xx

Hi all.
I picked up my new in-the-ear digital hearing aids on Wednesday. I am trying to get used to them. Today I went and visited Phil and the TV behind me was very loud. Usually it is so quiet I cant hear what is being said. Today I had trouble hearing what the carers said to me, although I did hear the squeaky hinges when somebody opened the dining room door.
When I got back to Papakura I parked near the telephone exchange and I noticed a loud humming noise. I dont know if it was from the exchange, or from a nearby transformer, or what. I could still hear it when I went into a shop further down the road, usually if I turned my head to left or right, or down. I could still hear it when I went round the block. I think I might be going back to the hearing people to ask about it on Monday if it is still bothering me. Also, when I went into the chemist shop there was a brrrrr noise as I entered and left. They have one of those 'gate' things that makes a noise if somebody goes out without paying for something. I tried putting my hands over my ears, but it made no difference, of course.
I hope I can get used to these aids. Otherwise I will want my money back!
Huia.
