Hi, has anyone who has asked for the address of the photo blog had any problems with getting into it?

Sallie

Sallie Report 31 May 2011 12:09

Hi Marie,

Lovely to hear from you. Like you, I had a lot of trouble with GR last week, besides the trouble that most people were having, I also had trouble with my account .....anyway it's all sorted now, thank goodness and hopefully stays that way.lolol!!

Like you I have very little hearing in my right ear, but my left ear is not so bad, so I can answer the phone using that ear...but wonder how I'll manage when my left ear gets worse. Oh well, it's no good worrying about it, I suppose it will get sorted when and if that happens.

I hope all will go well at the hospital for Victoria and that all the x-rays will be clear.

Jean, if you are looking in, I hope Jeff is still continuing to improve. Thinking about you all.

I have to go and get the ironing done now, so I'll speak to you all later.

Love, Sallie.xxx

Hello to you all,
I have finally managed to get contact with this thread, I seem to be having all sort's of trouble but then so do other people.
I am so pleased to hear that Jeff is making some small progress, I hope it continues <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 thinking and praying for Jeff, Jean and family.

Hearing aid's I have been wearing one for several years now I find it comfortable on it's own, but if I have my glasses on all day my ear get's a bit sore, mine is automatic it adjust to the noise around me, I have it in my left ear as I only have partial hearing in that ear, my right ear is not as bad so when answering the phone I use it. I also have an attachment for the phone (which came with the aid) however I have never used it, but may have to if my right ear gets any worse.
I also have a button on the phone to make it louder which I always use.

It does take some time to get used to the adjustment I forget that I have mine in and have gotten into the shower with it on also into the pool at the Gym.
Because they are expensive I went and had it added to my content's insurance as I would not be able to find the money to replace it.

Our Government has a very good scheme in place for Senior Citizen's
The hearing test is free each year if needed & they supplement a certain amount towards the cost of the aid, so when I got mine I went for one that was able to do more things like the automatic adjustment.

I must go as I am making soup for the family , they are down at West Mead Hospital as Victoria is having x-rays and such on her leg and also her back to rule out if the pain is from the the Kidney's or the back.
My Love to you all ,
Marie

I had a phone call this morning to tell me that my appointment for this afternoon had to be cancelled as the woman is sick. I now have an appointment for next Wednesday.

Sallie, I have a speaker button on my landline phone, if I press that when somebody rings (or before I ring them) I dont have to pick up the handpiece. The other person sounds very clear to me. I just have to remember to be facing the phone when I speak, otherwise they cannot catch what I say. At least with the handpiece I can turn every which way while talking. And some people find that I sound as if I am in a tunnel when I am talking on the speaker phone.

Ann, thank you. Yes they collapse flat, although some of the people I send them to sometimes have a problem knowing how to open them,
I think they're frightened of breaking them. Bless them! I'll have to start putting instructions in the envelope on how to open them, lol!!

Sallie your photos are on the blog. Lovely cards as usual. How do you post the easel cards, they look all strange shapes, do the collapse flat?

Sallie

Sallie Report 30 May 2011 17:15

Ann, as you said I need to try different phones, as it's a bit of a pain having to pull my hearing aid out before being able to answer the phone.

I've e-mailed you the photos of my cards, so hope that you'll receive them OK.

Mo, hope things are alright with you. Do you have a darts match tonight?

If you have, I hope your team will win.

You need to try, some phones I find better than others. We have 5 receivers on our main phone here, a couple I can hear the rest I can't. You can get special phones if you go on line to places that sell all sorts of things for the disabled.

Sallie Report 30 May 2011 14:26

Ann, my left ear is not as bad as my right. You've now got me wondering how I'll manage if and when I lose my hearing completely in that ear, as I can hardly hear anything in my right ear. Surely there must be something out there that we can have to help us.

I thought that I would be able to use the phone, so I didn't ask anything about it when I had my hearing aid last Thursday.

AnninGlos Report 30 May 2011 13:04

Lol Sallie if I take my aid out I can't hear a thing on the phone!!!

Sallie

Sallie Report 30 May 2011 12:56

I have to take my aid out of my left ear to answer the phone, otherwise I can hardly hear what the caller is saying. Alun usually answers the phone when he's at home, so it gives me a bit of time to get my aid out......so when I'm on my own, I worry in case the caller rings off before I can answer the phone to them.

Have sent you the address as requested Sallie, hope you enjoy the photos on there.

Huia, it takes a while before you don't 'hear' yourself in your head with the aids. I have trouble with the phone, my aids whistle when I try to use it. As there are 2 of us I leave the phoning to T but, if I were left on my own I'd have to do something about it. You used to be able to buy phones that carried the hearing aid logo to let you know they were compatable with aids, but with so many phones on the markey now you don't seem to get that unless you go to specialist people.

Morning everyone,

Caz, thank you for passing on the good message from Jean. I hope and pray that he will continue to improve. Still sending lots of hugs and positive thoughts to Jean and family.

Do you know, I had forgotten about that hard block of stork, of course that was the one both my mother and my nan always used for baking. Even after Stork brought out the tub of margarine, my mother still liked using the block.......she thought that the cakes turned out better using that.

The weather is really miserable here, it's cold and raining quite steadily, just hope it will get better throughout the day.

Well I'm going to make myself a cuppa .....nothing new for me, I know.lol!!
I'll look in again later on today.

Take care.

Hi girls from a very wet Yorkshire, I had a good message from Jean this morning so copied it and will paste it here. "last night when we went to see Jeff, he squeezed our hand every time we asked him and opened his eyes, the biggest surprise was when I stood up and asked him if he could see me and and he nodded his head, then Debra asked a question and he did it again, he is still poorly and the man who did the operation came last night and said he is doing very well.... it was brilliant although quite emotional, both Debra and myself were really tired and I slept all night but still feel weary...". Isn't that good, take little steps Jeff and you will get there.

I remember using the hard block of Stork when we were children as non of us would eat butter, I use it now for baking but only the block.

Caz xx

I meant to say Mo I couldn't get on either to vote for Lily, thought it was just me.

Hello girls.

Yes, this morning when I was using some Flora margarine it suddenly occurred to me that I had heard of Stork marge. We dont have that brand here.

I go back tomorrow to get them to look at my hearing aids. I hope they can be made to work on the phone and when people are talking to me. I have had to ask a couple of people to repeat themselves. They also seem to buzz when I am near electronic devices, e.g. the bedside clock, the clock on my stove, my computer monitor, various gadgets in shops (possibly the fluorescent lights). I also feel as if I am wearing earmuffs as I can only hear myself talking from the inside, not from the outside if you know what I mean.

After making the appointment I went to visit Phil. He did open his eyes a couple of times, and at one stage he spoke but I couldnt hear what he said, and he had a drink. I had to take one hearing aid out as the 2 people in the 'quiet room' next to us were making a lot of noise. I was tempted to shut the door, but felt I shouldnt.

I came back to Papakura and had my lunch then went to the hospice shop for the afternoon. I bought a CD rack and 2 plates and a matching dish that took my fancy, and a mirror for my handbag (it is like a compact, it closes), and a book. All for $10.50. That would be about 4 of your pounds, at a guess.

Dinner finished, must wash the day's dishes and make the bed.

I thought that the day had started well. Pegged the washing out before 8am A bit of a breeze, so I thought that the washing would dry quickly.. however....my line prop broke.!!!!!
Luckily nothing on the line was really long, so washing was not touching the ground. Must confess though to being a little peeved.

Didn't do any knitting today, was adding to the family tree instead.
The full story about knitting the scarf (yes, I admit it, I only told half the tale before), is that I bought a pack of three balls of bright pink fur style double knitting "wool".
Instructions came with the pack. Gave size of needles and then instructed to cast on 37 stitches...
The rest of the instructions were pretty much what I said previously.

It's way past my bedtime, so goodnight from the UK 0.53 Monday

Hi Ann,

I thought I might give it a week or two, and if I'm still having trouble with the left hearing aid, I'll give them a ring. I have quite a few photos of my cards to send, so I'll send them a few at a time.

I would like to see the photos on your blog, so please could you PM me the address. Thanks Ann.

Love, Sallie.xxx

Huia Stork is a type of margarine used for cooking.

Don't worry about the photos Sally plenty of time. Make sure the tubes on your sid is not too short which would make your ear sore.

I have just added about 100 photos to my photo blog. Anyone who has not got the address PM me and I will give it to you. They are photos of this last holiday.
Adding my links to the chain for Jean and Jeff
