Jean it doesn't seem a year to you because it isn't. We were there for a month in April this year so only 5 months!

Sylvia, welcome back, glad you had a nice time but ooh it looked chilly!

Sallie received your cards for the blog, will try and do them later.
Jean your latest are on.

Morning Sylvia, nice to see you back ,hope you are warmer now you are home...quite wet here and more forecast, we have had a week or so of ups and downs with both of us under the weather... I think its all been a bit hairy over the last four months... but it all seems to be settling down, I had no internet all day yesterday but thanks to D am back on, so I will be stumped if it happens when she is off to America in two weeks time....for two weeks.... heaven...we seem to be in the area of visits to the hospital and eye clinics, and various other things so the days go quickly....I have been very busy doing the cards,I now have three outlets all charity ones, so am kept busy, Ann very kindly puts them on her blog,so other crafters can get to see them maybe for ideas, thats what I like about the blog, a good place to swop ideas...
Huia just had a look at your pics and as always lovely......
Sallie I sent you a pm a while ago dont know if it arrived or not, still hope you and those you love are doing o.k. and I look forward to see your cards, you always have great ideas.... Ann have a lovely time on your hols I was only saying to Caz it doesnt seem like a year since you were there before.....the days whizz by...
Mo darlink, I hope the littlie is o.k. what are people like, no sense at all , but glad it wasnt worse , it could put her off dogs for life , when I was about three I was attackedd by an Alsation so I was told and I always am wary were dogs are concerned...I have even been known to walk streets out of the way rather than confront certain dogs and I hate it when they are at the back of you....what a whimp.....lol....
so I shall go and have the second coffee of the day,and send love and prayers to everyone, keep safe and be good...

Hi all
xxx

we got back yesterday evening (ie, Wednesday), but am still trying to catch up!

We had a good time, but boy, it was cold at night!

The lowest overnight temperature was -4C (yes, MINUS), the highest was 11C. All the others were 1 or 2 degrees either side of 0C

The days were quite pleasant at around 18/19C on most days.

But it did mean we had th fire lit most mornings, and most evenings!

We had had no invaders, of either the 3- or 4-legged variety

we're going away again for the first weekend in September, staying with our best friends on Vancouver Island for the holiday weekend.

Hi all, that was nasty Mo and potentially dangerous for a child. The dog must have done it before so you'd think it would be under control. What was the reaction of the owner.

Sallie well you did have a run around didn't you. At least the garage admitted liability for the wrong fly whell by paying your expenses and reducing the bill.

Jude should be able to add cards. I maybe could on my laptop but the internet is not very reliable there so it is best if Jude can do it. If not we are back on 28th.

Sallie Report 25 Aug 2011 21:47

Hi Girls.

Well what a week it's been. We went to pick our car up on Monday, and just as we were getting into Wakefield station, the mechanic in the garage rang Alun to tell him that the car wasn't ready as they had fitted the wrong part. Apparently half way through 2006 Volvo changed the fly wheel slightly, so when the mechanic ordered the part from their supplier they sent the wrong one. They had no way of knowing that it was the wrong one until the gear box was all put together again and tried to start the car.

The garage paid for us to hire a car from a car hire firm in Guiseley so at least we had a car for a few days while they were doing our gear box again. They also paid for our tran tickets and taxi fare that we had paid to get there, and also had £200 pound less to pay on the bill.
Another mechanic from the garage brought our car back last night and picked up the hired car to take back.
I was beginning to think that we would never have our own car back again.lol!!

Mo, I hope that your granddaughter's leg will soon get better. What breed of dog was it that bit her? You would have thought that the owner would have shut the dog in a room while they answered the door.

Like you all, we only ever meet our cousins at funerals now, it's such a shame as we were always such a close family. I ring the eldest of my cousins every few weeks or so, she never got married so is on her own. She's told me that I'm the only one that keeps in touch with her....she loves to hear how we are getting on, and especially Richard and Jennie.

Ann, at the moment I'm in Jennie's, I'm having to use her internet becaus we've got problems with ours. As soon as I've finished writing this Jennie's going to send you the photos of my cards, sorry I didn't send them when I said I would, but haven't had time between one thing and another just lately.
I hope you and T will have a lovely holiday in Tenerife and that you wiil have some good weather.
Will Jude be able to put any photos on your blog while you're away?

Hope all our other friend on here are all alright. Thinking about you all.

Might not be on for a few days, just hope that the internet will be sorted sooner rather than later.

Speak to you all soon.

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

Hello girls.
Just a quickie to say that I haven't forgotten you. What a rotten day we have had today, raining cats and dogs, and it's as dark as a coal hole outside at the moment.

My grandaughter got bitten by a neighbours dog last night. She was delivering a letter that had been put through their door by mistake.
When the house owner opened the door, their dog jumped up and bit J on her leg. Fortunately she has had her tetanus injection.
The police are going to their house tonight, to take a statement from my grandaughter.
I just thank god she was not more seriously hurt, she has a small bite mark, but bad bruising.
But had she been a small child, the dogs mouth would have gone right round childs leg, and I dread to think what would have happened then.

I hope you are all well. Take care my friends. Love to you all. Mo xxx

My niece had a reunion for our Auger line some years back, and did include some of mum's Davey cousins. I have had a couple of Bettany reunions and included dad's Woodhead cousin as she is the only one who is a Woodhead descendent apart from those of us who are also Bettany descendents. She doesnt have any children.

At the funeral I did give a CD of photos to one 2nd cousin once removed who is interested in the family tree. I also gave my email addy to the husband of another relative as he is 'into' the family tree but he hasnt contacted me yet.

Just about time for the news on TV.

I come from a family that has always kept in touch with most of the relations. When my parents died and the cousins' parents too, we kept it up. I have 7 first cousins that I get news of, being in direct contact with 5 of them (2 are 10 years older than me the rest are younger). I was in contact with another first cousin until a year or so ago but can't get any response now. She would be well over 80 so think she may either no longer be with us or in a home in Scotland somewhere. We were not that close. She had at least 6 children, I am not in touch with them. The other cousins have children and I get to hear about them from time to time. Of the first cousins 4 are interested in the family tree, of the cousins' childrens, 2 are interested so somebody will carry it on. I had another cousin in America but no contact and I know he died a few years back. He had 2 children, no idea where they are. And one of my Scots cousin's sons is a priest somewhere in the world, haven't a clue where.

Hello Huia,
I have had problems with my internet connection today. Virgin Media were doing repairs to the site, so it has taken me ages to be able to get on here.
Then to top it all, Windows decided that it had a load of updates that needed to be downloaded.

It is sad that a lot of the times that families get together, is either for a Wedding,Baptism, or Funerals.
Thats why I think Marie in OZ is doing a brilliant thing, by doing the family reunion, before they lose any other members of their family.
I'm afraid there are not many of my family left, to have a reunion with. Apart from two cousins in OZ, and one cousin that I know, who is still alive in this country.
I do have a few cousins somewhere over here, but believe it or not, I cant remember their names. When their parents died, we lost contact with them all.
My mum was never a one to be close to her nephews and nieces, and when Roly and I moved to Germany to get married, I lost contact with everyone.
My one cousin in this country, and myself, do e.mail each other on occasions, but have not met for 48 years. Her mum, my aunt is still alive in a nursing home, but her address has never been revealed to me, by my cousin. Funny family arn't we.

I must go now, I hope you are keeping well love. Take care, love Mo xxx

Here I am again, rescuing this thread from disappearing into oblivion. Where are you all?

I went to a funeral yesterday, my 2nd cousin's husband. It was nice to meet all the relatives, her sister and 2 brothers, her sons and their wives and children and grandchildren. Funerals seem to be the only time I get to meet them. A few years ago I did suggest to her that we should have a family reunion, but she didnt think that anybody would be interested.

Oooh lucky girl Ann, off to Tenerife again. At least you will be guaranteed better weather there.
I had to chuckle at your escapade at your sisters house. Mind you, it's typical of a lot of us, putting things in such safe places that we can't find them.
It sounds like you had a lovely time with the rest of the family over the weekend though.

Marie, there is always one person who holds things up, isn't there. At least by the time you have got as far as you can, with the family tree, anyone who is a late comer with any family news, will have to be dissappointed, but it will be their own faults for not getting their finger out sooner.
Have a lovely time at Kerryann's, and see you when you get back, if we don't hear from you before you go love.

Caz, Deanna wouldn't want you to be so upset love. Just remember the good times and the laughter you all shared together.
I know that you and Joyce were very close to her, and she would be upset, to think you are both weeping, when she is now free of any pain, that she was having to endure. May the good lord bless her, and keep her safe within his hands.

Love to you all. Mo xxx

Hi Everyone, had my sister here all last week which meant I couldn't settle to doing much on here. Who said you can choose your friends..............?
Anyway, delivered her home when she discovered she couldn't find her key to get in :-) We had just driven 2 hours so OH was not amused. Hunted through large handbag, nothing (both of us.) The neighbour who holds the spare key was out (we'd had to park in neighbours drive because there were no parking spaces near her home. (Sister doesn't have a drive her garage is down the end of her garden at the back.) I suggested she might have put the key in her case when she got to us for safety but she said no she never does that. :-) :-\ Anyway, another neighbour suggested she wait there so that we could get off. This had taken half an hour :-) We went on then to our daughters, another half hour drive. Later that day had a text to say key was safely in her case :-S :-S :-S :-S

After that we had a lovely weekend with daughter. Spent my birthday vouchers in hobbycraft and more money in M&S at Hedge End, a large superstore. On Sunday we stayed a second night and two of our Grandsons and the eldest's fiance joined us for a meal so that was nice.

Anyway, home now and starting to think about our Tenerife holiday next week. This week is blood test (cholestrol), result of chest x-ray, hairdresser and hearing clinic to get one of my aids adjusted. Next week chiropodist. And I have to sort out and send a months supply of birthday cards!

Huia bees won't hurt you unless they think they are threatened, once they have stung they die. Wasps on the other hand are horrible little blighters, I once stood on one in bare feet when I was young and have never forgotten the pain, hence I am scared of them. I find wasps are attracted to yellow, I have yellow sticky flowers on my kitchen window and they have caught three already.
I was feeling a bit better Sallie until this morning and the news of Deanna, can't stop crying now, she was such a lovely lady, funny and kind.
Marie I hope you enjoyed the film, the reunion is getting ever closer, hope it will be everything you expect and more.

I know that bees like blue. One year I was hanging out the washing while wearing a bright electric blue dress. A bee came buzzing around me (or was it a wasp, cant remember the details that far back) and I was ducking and diving among the sheets trying to shake it off. I finally ran inside and slammed the screen door in its face. I changed my clothes to a different colour and then I was able to hang the washing up undisturbed.

Caz lovely to see you on here, I hope you are feeling a bit better and not so down as you have been.

I'm terrified of wasps, I've been stung a few times so every time I see one I beat a hasty retreat......although not as quick as I use to be when I was younger.lol!!

Huia, I've looked at your blog, the photos are lovely as usual. NZ is such a beautiful country, I would love to visit it one day if only I could afford to.

Mo, I don't blame you and Roly not eating any of the beffet food with so many flies around it....dirty horrible things that can spread disease.

Our car is five years old, we bought it brand new and had hoped that we wouldn't have had this sort of trouble....but then I suppose it's the luck of the draw whatever it is we buy.

Alun says that it's cost us so much because of the labour charges, they have had to strip the gear box right down, do the job and then put it all back together again. so that's where most of the money has gone.

I'm sure that Roly and Phil will know what I mean, when you explain it to them both.

Love and best wishes to the three of you. Sallie.xxx

Hi there Caz.
We have had lots off wasps and bees in our garden this year. I like to sit out on the bench, but as soon as I sit down I get bombarded with the bloomin things, and have to run inside till they vanish. I'm not a coward really lol but I just don't want to get stung.
Our Ford Focus, is nearly six years old now, but we will have to run it till it falls apart on us I'm afraid, or rusts to death.
Bye for now. Love to you both Mo xxx

Hi girls, just popped on to say hello, I haven't been on for a while when I think of it, been a bit down. Mo I don't blame you for not eating anything at the buffet, flies are disgusting things. We are starting to get a lot of wasps in the kitchen. Last year we had a wasps nest under the eaves and I think they might have another one further along this year.

Sallie what a lot it is costing you for the car, as Mo said it would be cheaper to get another although second hand. Ours is three years old in November so we will be changing it, it's a mobility car.

It has been very hot and sticky here today even though we have a cool breeze, wish it would cool off a bit, I have never been a fan of the summer and sun.

Huia I saw your new photos this morning, they are lovely, what a beautiful place New Zealand is, it looks as if you could tramp all day and not meet anyone else at all.

Hello to everyone else and I hope you are all keeping well.

Love Caz xx
