Sallie Report 14 Nov 2011 18:17

Hi Girls,

Yes Mo it's great seeing everyone chatting on here, isn't it?

Today my taste buds and sense of smell have come back after my cold. I feel a bit silly, as all this morning I thought I could smell gas, so Alun popped home in his lunch hour to check and decided to phone the Gas company to have it checked. Of course everything was OK, so felt awful that we had called them out. The chap that came was very nice and told me that they would prefer to be called out and check it even if everything is fine, than to have something bad happen.

One good thing that came out of it, was that he told me that whoever fitted our gas fire had fitted a part the wrong way round although not dangerous it seems that the flames go in the opposite direction to how they should. So now we know why we have never felt as warm as we should have with it.lol!!

Mo I might look in on the Friendly thread later on just to say hello to them.

As you say you haven't heard anthing about your nephew for a long while.......as they say ' no news is good news'. Let's hope he is going along alright.

Sylvia, I tend to be like you, I see something I like but maybe not the colour so decide to look somewhere else and if I can't find it go back to the first place and find that it has gone.
I even tend to be like that when I'm buying Christmas presents, not too sure about something so leave it and by the time I've decided to go back for it, it's gone. If only I could be a bit more positive at times.lol!!

Ann we tried sending you the card photos last night, but for some reason we couldn't. We'll try again later on and hope they will go this time.

No news from Huia, I hope everything is alright with her and her family.

Jean, if you are looking in, you have some lovely cards on Ann's blog.
Hope all is well with you, Jeff and Debra.

Linda, I didn't realise that you are going to become a grandmother next year. I bet you are excited and happy to be knitting all the lovely baby things ready for the baby's arrival.

I wish sometimes I was into knitting rather than card making as the place stays so much tidier.lol!!.

Jude, I'm sorry I didn't mention you last night as I know that you popped in sometimes to have a chat with us. Hope all is okay with you and your family.

I have to go now, but might pop in later on.

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

PS Mo if you have a darts match tonight, good luck.

Love, Sallie.xxx

My goodness me, I have missed you all chatting away, but it so lovely to read all the posts.

Linda it's lovely to hear from you again.
Girls did you know that Linda is going to be a grandmother next year. She has been busy knitting lots of bits for baby, and also for other children in foreign parts. She is such a kind, gentle woman, who has now joined the retired clan.
She is very good at doing decorating as well..... so get your orders in now girls, in readiness for christmas, we can't have her sitting on her BTM can we. lol ;-)

Sallie, like Ann and anyone else who cares to join, will be made welcome on the friendlies thread. They are a great bunch, the same as our friends on here.
Huia pops in every so often as well.
I haven't seen very much of my nephew Sallie, but no news is good news where he is concerned. I just thank the lord that he is still with us.

Ann, our 99p shop is humongous. It used to be an old Woolworths store and it has plenty of floor space between the aisles.
There is nothing worse than trying to look at something on a shelf, and people getting in the way.
It's normally my luck when I go to a bigger supermarket ,to get stuck behind young mums with babies in prams, who I know want to do their own shopping, but I could be in and out quicker, if they didn't stand and read every word on tins or boxes. Cooo that was me years ago, not now though, I know what I want and try to run in and buy my goods and get back out again as quick as possible.

Sylvia, my under vests are being worn, then a jumper, I will not allow myself to get cold. If it get to chilly in the house, my fleece jacket goes on. When I go out, my thick winter coat accompanies me, plus my hat, scarf and gloves. I look like Nanook of the north, done up for winter. lol

I wonder how Huia got on at the weekend. Perhaps she will pop in later and let us know.

I must love you and leave you now, and go and prepare some dinner. Roast chicken, roast potato's and veggies for our meal tonight.
Bye for now, love to you all. Mo xxx

Right Sylvia, waistcoats and I do have several, but most of mine have a fastening of some soert. (although I usually wear them open! And, yes they'd be good 'camouflage'. :-) :-)

Hi all
xxx

the sun is shining here, and it is nice and peaceful after the big winds and heavy rains of the last couple of days!

Ann .......... vests to us are I think what I used to call waistcoat.

Vest to you are what we call undervests.

The best I can say to describe these is that they are open-fronted cardigans, with short sleeves and no fastenings. All are knitted, but very different designs.

Two are different colours in the same style, but the others are different styles. 3 of them are long .... to mid-thigh or thereabouts, and the other 2 are shorter (about mid-hip)

I've got several down vests which I wear round the house, but these new ones are dressier ....... and provide neat camouflage when combined with a scarf.

Who can tell what is, or is not, under all that ;-)

Sallie ........ I have the same problem of not being able to find the colour I want, or alternatively of finding what I want but thinking I'll just have another look round ............. and then i can't find the one I'd found!

Love to everyone

Mo, I will try and remember to 'drop in' on the Friendlies occasionally, it does take a bit of courage, as Sallie says it feels like you are intruding.
We have a 99p shop in Gloucester but I hate it because it is so cramped and crowded. I do go into Poundland in Gloucester and another £1 shop in Cheltenham.

Sallie, 18 cards are fine.

Linda, good to see you back on here again.

Sallie Report 13 Nov 2011 21:46

Hi Girls,

Linda, it's lovely to hear from you again. As you say please pop in and have a chat with us when you can. We've really missed you and
all our other friends that we haven't heard from for a long while.

I know you have had a few family problems and was sorry to hear about your dad. Hope things are not too bad with your mum at the moment.

Yes we buy some things from both Poundland and Poundworld, as you say they sell some well known brands a lot cheaper than Asda and Tesco. My friend will only have a cup of tea if she's got a KitKat to have with it, they cost £1.89 in Asda and Tesco so she buys them from the pound shops.

I will have to go into Primark and see what they have there. I haven't been in there for ages.

Mo, we have a 99p shop in Derby, but I never think to go in there. One of my neighbours and her daughter buy a lot from there. I think I'll have to go in there when I next go to Derby, which will prpbably be sometime in the week.

I often look in on the Friendly thread, but don't know whether I should post on it, as you all know each other well so I don't like to impose.

I been wondering lately Mo how your nephew is getting on, I hope he is improving.

If you are playing darts tomorrow night, hope your team will win.

Ann, I have eighteen cards for you to put on your blog, hope that's okay.

I was hoping to do some more of the desk calendar I am making this evening, but we've had a few phone calls so wasn't able to do anything. Never mind there's always tomorrow.

Marie, how are things with you and your family? I hope all is well with you all.

Caz, hope you are feeling a bit better than you've been lately. It's always nice to hear from you.

Betty, how are you? It's a while since we heard from you. Hope you are alright.

Thinking of Sylvia, Jean, Tess, Huia and Liz. Hope I haven't missed anyone out.

Well I'll say goodnight to everyone. Speak to you all tomorrow.

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

Hi everyone
Sallie I was shopping with my daughter yesterday and she bought a warm scarf in Primark, they had lots of different ones and also hats(including those worn by the young and trendy), gloves and even ear muffs too. Daughters scarf was £3:90 reduced from £5 and they had soft leather gloves(like the driving ones) for £7. Might be worth a look if you have one near you.

Mo I went into the poundshop too and got lots of J&J products for the baby for a pound each, also Heinz salad cream, which seems to go up every time I go into Tesco or Sainsburys.

I'll try to start adding again as I have been rather lapse as lot has happened family wise recently, but I do still read about you all.

Good evening everyone.
Aaahh Sallie, how could you miss my posting...... it took me ages to get it sorted out,and to actually get it to send, before it deleted itself on it's own.
Talking of the pound shops girls, do you have the 99p shops in your areas.
Our local one in Gillingham, is very very popular. Nothing is over the 99p priced on the shop front.
A lot of people now do their weekly shop in there, as they stock all the goods that the bigger branded supermarkets do.
With the prices having risen so much, you can't blame people.

Good on you Sylvia, having a lovely spend up does you good, and you will be kept nice and warm in the process.

Ann it was nice to see you over on the friendlies thread, dont forget to go back and say hello to the crazy gang sometimes.

I hope that you are all o.k,and trying to keep fighting fit.
Love to our Jean,Joyce, Caz,Marie, Huia, Betty,Liz and all our friends who I may have forgotten to mention.
Take care of yourselves. Love Mo xxx

Sallie Report 13 Nov 2011 16:40

Hi Girls,

Ann, I hadn't thought of looking in Poundland for a scarf...I'll look next time I go to Derby. We've been to the Range this afternoon, I only went for some Christmas wrapping paper and tags but I couldn't resist looking in the craft area, so spent more than I thought to again. I spent £30 altogether, most of which was on craft stuff.lol!!!

Alun pointed out that he thought I was going to give up card making, which I keep saying, but I enjoy doing them and as you know Ann, making them is like an addiction. The trouble is I make them in the dining room and it looks such a mess at times, especially now with all the Christmas cards to make as well as the birthday cards.

I did use the smallerl spare bedroom at one time, but I just felt so cut off from everyone, so started using the dining room again.

Sylvia, sorry to hear about all the power cuts after the high winds. Hope your friends on Vancouver Island are safe and that they didn't suffer any damage to their property.

Good for you, spoiling yourself! I'm pleased that you found the ones that you liked and all in different colours too. I generally find that if I find something that I like I can't always get it in the colours that I need.

Well I'm going to make a cuppa now, so will pop back later on.

Hope everyone else is okay.

Love, Sallie.xxx

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 13 Nov 2011 14:27

Sylvia, glad the wind dropped but sorry about the power failure.

Do you mean like waistcoats? Or gilets? I have several I wear around the house.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 13 Nov 2011 05:07

Hi all
xxx

The wind dropped, but well over 30,000 people were without power for many hours ...... the main problem was on Vancouver Island, so I am hoping that our friends are OK.

The rain poured down again today ..... it really was a miserable November Day in Vancouver!

I went downtown for some retail therapy ................. I found several of those open fronted knit cardigan/vests that have been so popular for the last year.

I've discovered that one that I bought in the summer is great .... it provides just the right amount of warmth, and also provides some "camouflage" ..... so I splurged and bought 4 of them, in different colours and styles (and by different makers). They all either have no sleeves or very short sleeves.

They were ALL on sale! Two of them were less than half price.

............... but I'm not about to tell OH how much I did pay ;-)

Never mind, it didn't come out of the housekeeping .............. I have a little account of my own.

Hope all is well with you

Sallie, weeeell I bought myself a silver evening scarf from Poundland Thursday, and it is good quality too. But I have noticed that scarves in all the main shops except BHS were around £15. BHS did have quite a few for £6-£7.

Sylvia, I hope the gale force winds have dropped now. I do hate strong winds.

Mo, hope you get the lappy fixed or it fixes itself.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you Ann and Sylvia, I'm feeling better today than I've been for the last couple of days, the cold is slowly going, thank goodness.

Alun and I have been to Meadowhall, Sheffield today, so that we could get some Christmas presents. We bought for quite a few people, so I will have to put on my thinking cap now on what to buy for the rest of them.

Sylvia, hope the high winds didn't cause too much damage and disruption there, and that there were no accidents. It must be very frightening for you all.

Caz, like you I love my cup of tea and also prefer cocoa to hot chocalate.
Jennie loves the hot chocolate from Starbucks, but it is too sickly for me so I just stick to their tea which is really nice.

Huia, hope the show went well for you and that your son arrived safely.

Ann, I looked at scarves today in BHS and M&S to give as Christmas presents, but all the ones I looked at although thick were from £18-£22, which I thought was a lot to give for a scarf.

I wonder where our Mo is today. Maybe she's babysitting Lilly.
Mo if you are looking in, I hope Roly is feeling better.

Hope all is well with Jean, Marie, Tess and Joyce.

Well ladies I'll speak to you all tomorrow.

Take care.

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

Here we go again, I lost my last post, so I will make this very short.
I hope everyone is o.k, and that Sallie is feeling a lot better today, and getting over her cold/flu bug.

Sylvia, what a shame losing all the cherry tree leaves like that,I do hope the winds have lessened now, and that you are both safe and not been blown away with the gale force winds.

I hope to be able to get back and speak to you tomorrow, if not it means that my laptop needs to see the doctor again.
My CAPS LOCK button keeps sticking and not releasing itself, then the darned lappy keeps freezing.
I have done a defrag, so I am not sure what else to do with it.
Bye for now my friends, I will return as soon as is possible.
Love to all. Mo xxx

:-D :-D :-D :-D

Ferry traffic up and down the coast has been halted as it is too dangerous for the ships to dock or leave dock.

Tanker ships are also having problems keeping under way ......... please God, no accidents or groundings with them

Lots of trees blown down, especially in the city just across the river from us (about 2 miles away) and many people without power in that city.

There are also apparently trees down around the university.

It was quite amazing .................. I sat here and watched about 80-90% of the leaves on our big old cherry tree blown off within a space of about 10 minutes :-0 It was still almost fully covered with leaves until that moment.

Sallie ...... hope you feel much better tomorrow.

Caz, sorry I was not ignoring you but you jumped in while I was posting and I missed you. Not had cocoa for years but do remember that I used to like it as a child. I do like hot chocolate though, I think it is richer than cocoa.
