Morning all Sylvia the Canadian facts were interesting especially as I have a large contingient of Canadian cousins, living in the Toronto area.
Mo your cough? especially at night? We when I was unwell a couple of winters back I had that chest problem, it was diagnosed as sarcodosis, which thankfully cleared and has never come back. BUT at the time my husband asked the consultant about my coughing at night. I had no asthma and no infection. The consultant said sometimes people with reflux are woken by a cough, it is the acid coming back because of lying down. I was put on "LANSOPRAZOLE" only one capsule at bedtime and for nearly 3 years have not had the problem. So it might be worth seeing the dr and asking if this could be you too.
The sun is shining. I have done all my planting and just need to keep the pots watered now, as we still have a hosepipe ban!!! LOL Might be going for a walk later with my son, his wife and their cocker spaniel. The shawl is growing slowly, much finer wool but it is a gorgeous pattern. It will keep me occupied for quite a while.
Have a lovely sunday everyone. Happy 1st July/Canada Day to Sylvia

Hi Mo
and everyone
It has been "steady rain"
Tomorrow is Canada Day
July 1st is Canada's 145th Birthday ................... festivities, parades, fireworks, etc etc.
The Baptist Church across the street has put out strings or red and white banners.
We stay home, quietly ............ neither of us is very good in big crowds.
But here is a bit of a teaser for you, just for Canada Day ................
Did you know the following foods were invented or discovered in Canada???
1. Ginger Ale ......... This was originally invented in Ireland, but a Canadian made changes to the recipe in 1907, to produce Canada Dry Ginger
2. Instant Mashed Potatoes ............ invented in 1962, as a means of feeding the military and starving people
3. McIntosh Apples ......... 20 trees discovered on his property by John McIntosh in 1811
4. Pablum ............. this baby food was developed in 1931. It is a combination of fortified dried wheat, corn, bonemeal, and oatmeal.
5. Poutine ............. a French-Canadian favourite. French fries (chips) with gravy and cheese curds on top.
6. Processed cheese ............ Kraft cheese slices were developed in 1916. J L Kraft was a Canadian who emigrated to the US, then invented a way to preserve cheese.
7. Yukon Gold Potatoes ............. a cross between 2 kinda of potaotes made in Guelph Ontario
8. Canola oil ............. developed in the early 1970s as a means of using rapeseed oil for human consumption.
:-D :-D :-D :-D

Helloooo girls, I have just has a txt from our lovely Jean, and she will be off line for about two weeks whilst her laptop is being repaired. I bet she will be climbing the walls, and up to her armpits in cards by that time. lol We will be thinking of you honey, and waiting to hear all your news when you get back.
Caz, it's lovely to hear that you are feeling a bit better now. Theres nothing worse than an ailment that keeps hanging around, and we not being able to shift it. Like you, I have a niggardly cough when I lay down at night. In fact I can remember my mum taking me to the doctor as a child, as she was so fed up of me coughing at night, and keeping them awake. The doctor said I had got, now get this.... Post Nasal Drip, where phlemb (sp) drips down the back of the throat at night, and causes coughing. It annoys me on the occasions when I wake myself up coughing, and then can't get back to sleep. I am either waking myself up with the cough, or passing win* ( oops sorry about that, how rude of me, but it's a fact of life ). Full of wind and piddle thats me. lol
Oooh Lorraine, cockles in vinegar, the thought is making my mouth water. Do you have to wear the mask for sleep apnea (sp) My Roly suffers from it as well, but he was a few numbers under the required amount warranted for use of the mask and oxygen. He snores and grunts like a pig, but at least that way, I know that he is still breathing. I hope your young lady is settling in well. I used to be a foster parent as well, and did respite work for a few years. It's such a good feeling knowing that you have helped a child along it's path of life.
Well girls, I will love you and leave you. Take care my friends, love and hugs Mo xxx

Hi Zak I know you must think it's funny the way I got my prescription but it is a special anti-biotic that chemists don't normally stock, no one in Bfd had any, even the maker of it. Anyway after taking it for two days I am starting to feel better, thank goodness. Just hope it does the job as my kidneys have been poorly for a while now. Huia I'm sorry about your tooth, hope you can get it fixed easily. I went for my x-ray this morning, what a carry on, just because I have a niggardly cough when I'm tired, hope things are ok. Mo don't ask me to sing will you, everyone will close down. see you all later. Times run away with me.
Love Caz xx Hello so everyone else

Oh my goodness, look what happens when I leave you all for a night on your own. Huia breaks her tooth, Sallie gets caught in a storm, and our Caz is still not to good, Sylvia's steam cleaner decides to pack up, Jeans laptop is having a funny turn, the only really good news was hearing that Marie's daughters op went well. I just dont believe it.
Well Sylvia, it looks like you got a good deal for your trip to see the family at christmas. It does sound strange, having to arrange travel this far in advance, but it looks like it certainly has paid off for you. I know it's a long journey, but you both enjoy it don't you, meeting so many different nationalities on the way, and having a good old chat to them.
Marie, what do you think about us starting a G.R choir on here. ( the cats choir is what we should be called ) Apart from yourself and Huia, I bet none of us would admit to being able to hold a note. I certainly cant....I scare all the neighbourhood cats away at night, when I am sat in the bath singing to myself. :-D
I must go, as we have got to go to our daughters house in a minute. Bless her, she phoned me last night to tell me she had sat in the hospital for two and a half hours. She was trying to move a bedroom unit from one bedroom to another, and she dropped it on her toe, and broke it. She sliced through the toe as well, and there was blood everywhere. Just going over to check she is o.k, and managing to hobble around. Silly girl still went to work today as well, instead of resting it up, and the darned thing keeps bleeding, so good old Roly will have to change the dressing for her. It's no good me trying to do it, especially if it's still bleeding, they would have to pick me up of off the floor. The sight of blood does that to me. Speak to you tomorrow girls, love to all.
Hugs for Sallie, Caz, and Joyce our poorly friends.

Good morning to you all. It's lovely to see the thread busy again.
Well I am wondering whether to go up to town or not, I have to go to the post office and a couple of other shops, but although it's dry at the moment it looks as though it's going to rain.....very clody and dull.
Huia, sorry about your tooth, hope the dentist can sort it out for you tomorrow.
Ann, no it wasn't worth going through the flood to M&S, couldn't get what I was looking for, although I did get some food shopping.I'll have to go to Derby tomorrow morning now.....I need to get myself a pair of brown trousers, so hopefully I'll get it there.lol!!
Jean, sorry to hear that your laptop is gone completely, hope it won't be too long before they can get it sorted.
Caz, I hope that you now have your antibiotics and that they will soon start to make you feel better. Thinking of you. Sending you lots of love and ((((((((((hugs))))))))) . <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
Marie, very good news about your daughter, wishing her a good and speedy recovery.
I don't think there are any choir groups around here, at least not that I know of. Mind you, with my voice I don't think they would want me in the choir..........I can't sing for toffee.lol!!!
Mo, how are things with you and Roly today? Hope you are both OK. Like Ann, I have never been to one of those performances and I don't think that I would go to one either......I'm always a bit wary of that kind of thing, I'd be worried that they would tell me something that would worry me.lolol!!
Sylvia, our rugs and carpets need cleanling badly, we've been wondering if it would be worth buying one of those steam cleaners. We've bought different cadgets in the past, used them to start with and then they've been pushed in a cupboard and never used again.
Heard from Joyce yesterday, she has a chest infection so isn't feeling too good at all. Hope she will soon feel a lot better.
Hello to Linda, Lorraine and anyone else that I might have forgotten.
I've decided to go up to town now, so will speak to you all later.
Take care everyone.
Love, Sallie.xxx

Hello everyone , Good news! My Daughter Kerry's operation went very well, It took a lot longer 5 hrs.as the bulge in the disk had calcified and the nerve was bent , but all is well and the micro surgery was successful, she has to sleep on her side but she is walking twice a day for 30min's she sounds very cheerful. Huia ,I remember you telling us about the man who took your husband for walks , GOD bless him , may he rest in peace I am sure he will have a place in Heaven.Sorry to hear about your tooth, it will cost a bit to have it fixed.
Hi Caz I am thinking of you and I hope by now you have received your medication,, what a strange way they operate over there, we take the script to the chemist and it is filled right away., if they don't have it , they send a member of their staff to another chemist to bring the medication to you.
Jean I am sorry to hear your new computer has broken down ,I think you may have to demand a replacement .I hope it is still under warranty.
Hi there Sallie, I see that black dog is at you again. Have you ever done any singing I know that you are very good at craft, but wonder if you might think about taking up singing as a hobby. To me singing is such a wonderful expression of your inner self and I know from experience that elderly people and people with dementia feel so much better after having had musical therapy,( I am not saying you are old or have dementia LOL) I think it would probably help you if you joined a local singing group, Keep strong My friend
Hi Mo you sound very chirpy good on you, I am well and very fit as I am still going to gym and I have lost weight 1kg I think it is from not having any added sugar and looking for foods with a low GI.
The singers I have been tutoring are doing very well, I am very pleased with them, we will probably start doing some singing for charity like the Homes for the elderly.. Tomorrow is Saturday and I am hoping to be at the Aust. Rules Football our Team plays The Cowra Magpies, we are leading the compertition and will want to beat this team as they are not a fair team and usually try to knock someones head off, so we like to beat them. Did I mention it is miserable here very cold and will probably rain for the game tomorrow. I must go and have my dinner .
Opps I forgot to say Hello Sylvia and Ann also Joyce and Linda <3 :-)

Hi all, I hope that Jean's laptop is soon fixed, very annoying when things go wrong with a new pc.
Huia, I remember the man who used to take Phil for walks and give you respite. I'm sorry to hear that the bowel cancer finally beat him.
Caz, sorry to hear that youa re still so poorly and I am thinking of you.
Sallie, was M&S worth the flooded road though? Did you buy anything nice?
Mo, Roly sounds as if he and T would get on well. I have never been to one of those performances, don't fancy them and not sure what I believe about being able to contact people after death. Sssh! don't tell my sister. She goes to a spiritualist church and insists she is pshychic, has two spirit guides and has 'spoken' to our parents and various other departed relatives. I retain an open mind but I have to admit to not being very convinced. :-S :-S :-)

Hi Mo
and everyone.
Those storms are awful! I had not heard about them until I started reading about them on various threads on GR ........ so I just had to go and google!
I did note that there were 2 storms .................
Both started in Wales .......................
................. and then got stronger as one went into the Midlands, and the other went north over to Cumbria and into Scotland
At the same time, we are facing flooding over here because of the rain we had last week combined with the snow melt from the mountains and up North. But this is flooding by rivers, streams, creeks, lakes, etc over flowing their banks.
I spent a lot of time on the phone this morning (Thursday) ............ booking the trains for our trip back east at Christmas-time. That's 3 trains each way, total of 6 days travel.
We had coupons that gave us 50% off 2 of the 3 sections ............. and our travel agent could not therefore do the booking for us.
I got it all done, and so we are set.
We do have to spend a night in Montreal on the way over, as there have been some cut-backs in train service. There were 6 trains a week from Montreal to the Maritimes, now there are only 3. It means that we arrive over there 1 day later than originally planned.
But I managed to get a really good price on a room in one of the best hotels in Montreal ....................... and it is 2 floors above the train station (which is underground). So we won't even have to put our noses out the doors if the weather is bitterly cold :-D
The last time we had to stay over in Montreal, it was -30 to -32C ....... in the daytime! I didn't ask what the night time low was!
The hotel is the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth, and I've got a room for 2, queen bed, room rate $135 (or ca £70) ....... which is about half the normal rate. That's what you get for reserving early!:-D
very pleased with myself :-D :-D :-D
Meanwhile, OH was cleaning the carpets with the Hoover steam cleaner we bought a few weeks ago.
He did 2 rooms yesterday, and they look really good. Mind you, the carpet wasn't really dirty in either of them. Just needed brightening up.
Then he moved on to do our bedroom ....... and suddenly announced that the machine was not working properly :-S :-S
It seems that a hose was not hooked up properly, and so it was not sucking water into the dirty water tank ......................... yet, the other carpets had not been very wet, and both had dried in 4 or 5 hours.
He thinks he has now solved the problem ........... and will tackle a really dirty carpet tomorrow (Friday). Dirty because of feet marks where someone sits every evening (and it is not me:-D )
Take care everyone

Hello girls,
Mo, glad to hear that you enjoyed yourself last night...not sure if Roly did though.lol!! I had to laugh at his comment about the lady....I can see what he means.
Lorraine, yes we had heavy rain and thunderstorms here this morning, I don't ever remember having it so bad here, Alun popped me to M&S late this afternoon, part of the road on the way there, was flooded, never seen it like that before.
Jean, sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your laptop, as you say, with it being fairly new you will need to take it back......you shouldn't have to pay to get it done either. Hope they'll get it sorted for you soon.
Linda, I bet the shawl you have started will be beautiful, especially with it being done in 3ply.
Caz, if you are looking in, I hope you have received your antibiotics by now so that you can start to feel better very soon.
Sylvia, hello to you and your OH. Pleased to hear that you have at last started your summer over there. We're all still waiting for ours here in the UK.lol!!
Huia, sorry to hear about the man that helped you with Phil.....with there being a lot of people at the church it sounds at though he was well liked.
Hello to all our other friends on here. Hope you are all OK.
Take care everyone.
Love, Sallie.xxx

Hello gals, Good to see you all posting, and thanking you for it.
Well we went to see Sally Morgan, the psychic medium last night. The first half of her show was really good, but because it was so hot in the theatre, one lady fainted, and the paramedics had to be called. The lady was fine after she recovered, but went to the hospital for a check over. The show was halted, whilst the lady was dealt with. Roly's comment was, " well she should have seen that coming, I suppose", cynic that he is. The second half of the show was very hit and miss, she was fishing, throwing out names that nobody knew. It was very entertaining, and at first, Roly was really into it, but come the end he was still very sceptical. He said, " well me mum still ignores me in death, as much as she did in life" He was joking though, as most people who go to these meetings, all go with the hope of getting a message from lost loved ones. I have seen many of the famous psychics, and Sally was the only one I enjoyed watching.. I have a very open mind about the after life, and until I get a message will remain this way. I hope this does not offend any of you girls, as I would not wish to cause offence.
Once again, it's another scorching day here,to hot to sit in the garden, but still very hot in the house. I hope Caz has got her air conditioning on, to cool her down a bit.
Must go and do dinner now, Gammon Steaks and pinneapple, chips and peas tonight, yummy.
Love to you all.
Special hugs for my little hunny ((((((((((((JEAN))))))))))))) <3 <3 <3
