Hello girls, I am feeling pretty good with myself today, went to the cancer clinic this morning and everything is perfect, the scans and x-rays show nothing at all, I was a bit worried about the scan on my head but it's ok. the best bit was when they weighed me, I have lost over 7 kilos, I knew I must have lost a bit with being poorly but 7, blimey, feels good. I don't have to go back for six weeks, lets hope it's the same next time. Sally I will be speaking to Joyce tonight, has she still got her rough voice, poor Joyce, it's always one thing or another isn't it. It's been a lovely day, all sunshine now it is very dark and overcast and I heard a rumble of thunder not long back, don't mind thunder but hate lightning. Oh heck the rain is coming down in stair rods now, still I am inside. My kidney is ok now thanks, I have three more capsules to take then I have done and I am feeling a lot better. Lol, come to think of it I didn't have any dinner, just came home had a cuppa and went to bed to rest my back, think I will go get some toast.
Love Caz xx

Sallie, glad they seem to have helped with the pain in Jennie's knee, hope all goes well with the MRI and colonoscopy. Try not to worry too much, worrying won't help her and will make you unwell. I know it is easier said than done. My son always says. 'Mum, there is no point worrying until you know what you are worrying about' Hard but I do try to follow that.
With fostering many people used to say the same as you, 'how can you bear to hand them back?' My answer was always, we do it for them, not us, if we are upset we can get over it but they need our help'.

Hello girls, sorry not been on here for a few days, a bit preoccupied with things at the moment, I'm afraid.
Mo, so pleased to hear that your cholesterol has dropped since seeing the doctor the last time. I'm sure that you feel relieved about it.
Jennie seen the Rheumatologist on Monday, she has reactive arthritis caused by when her Crohn's is active. One of the doctors drained the fluid off her knee and also injected steroids into it, so it is feeling a lot better, thank goodness. If the she has anymore problems with her knees over the next twelve months she will be able to ring them for an appointment rather than having to go back to her GP and wait for a referal. So that will be good.
I must say that they really look after her at the hospital, any kind of problem and they quickly sort it for her. She has her MRI scan on Monday ( trust it to be my birthday, don't think I'll enjoy it very much) and then she has her Colonoscopy on the Friday.I shall be glad when it's all over and done with.
Lorraine, I'm sure you are really looking forward to having your daughter home at the weekend. It's always nice to have our children stay with us for a while.
Ann I didn't realise that you, Mo and Lorraine fostered children in the past. It's a great thing to be able to do, and I admire you all for doing it, but I don't think I would be able to do it, as I would be too upset when they left, saying goodbye to them. It's a good thing that everyone isn't like me or there wouldn't anyone there for them all. Bless them.
Caz, Joyce rang me yesterday, she said that you are at the hospital today, hope all goes well for you there and that the results will be what you hope for. Also hope that your kidney infection is now a lot better with the new antibiotics. Thinking of you.
Joyce said that her chest infection has cleared up now but she is still having a lot of pain with gout. So hoping that it will improve for her very soon.
Hello to Jean, Linda, Sylvia, Huia and Marie, hope all is well with everyone.
Take care.
Love, Sallie.xxx

I will txt Jean to thank her for your bits, as a phone call will be rather expensive wont it. We normally do the txting bit between us.

I think thinga were a bit different in the 60s/70s, the checks for foster parents were still there but we never have anything like the CRB (police checks) that foster parents have today, we had Social service checks and fire checks and that was about all. We mostly had babies. The first baby we ever had was prem, weighed 5 pounds, ( was 26, had one child of our own, no experience with prem babies, he was fed on watered Ideal milk every two hours and he didn't thrive very well. We didn't have a clue and had no extra advice except from the clinic. He was adopted at 6 weeks, in that time we were coping with the baby and the Mum's visits, she was 16 and wanted to keep him but her parents insisted he be adopted, she was heartbroken and would bring him toys and little clothes. He was to be taken to Ireland after adoption, I often wonder what happened to him. (I didn't know the name of the adoptive parents.) You wouldn't have done it for the money then either, we just about broke even with that one. the one we had for six months was treated like our own, other than borrowing a pram for him. His Mum couldn't make up her mind, she was going to marry the father, then she wasn't, she wanted the baby then she didn't, in the end I think she was going to marry the father who decided he didn't want the baby (who was gorgeous by the way.). So we had to put our feet down, we were supposed to only have the babies for 6 months, by then we had our daughter who was 10 and son who was three and son was getting so attached to his 'brother'. So we requested he be taken into full time foster care as it wasn't fare to him or our own children. (We wouldn't have been allowed to adopt him anyway as we were not on the list for adoption.) Of our own children and adoptive and daily minded babies he was the best behaved, never cried, slept through the night from the time we had him at 2 weeks and was always smiling.
Mo, If you speak to Jean could you thank her for the card bits she sent me today. And thank her for the phone number and could you please explain that much as I'd like to chat it would be 'painful' as I have trouble hearing on the phone. ok for short calls but not for chatting. I think it is a landline number she has given me or I'd text her. Thanks.

Hi all. Ann, it's so stupid having to go through all the rigmarole when moving, and working with the children. After all, we are all have to go through police checks prior to fostering, and the people within the household are the same, nothing changes apart from the house. As long as the fostered child, still has it's own room, and all the love it has received from the family along the way, why do the powers that be, have to cause so many problems. Yes, I can understand them needing to be sure that a child is safe, within the area you may be moving to, but they cause so much upset for the child in doing so. When we were fostering, we moved twice, with no problems, and no forms to have to fill in. But then they decided to change a lot of the rules, regarding children. We were not allowed to cuddle a child on our knee, ( after a fall or anything like that ) as it could be mistranscribed as abuse. If a little one had hurt itself, a cuddle sometimes was all that was needed, but no, they stopped that. I was very lucky, in as much as theparents of the children we cared for, knew of us and our whereabouts, so there was no need for secrecy. Apart that was from when you are caring for an abused child, then privacy HAD to come into it.
Lorraine, it will be lovely for you to see your daughter this weekend. My OH was in the R.A.F when we married, and after many posting all over this country, and abroad, he came out, for us to settle the children into permanant schools, rather than having to keep changing so often. It was a great life, but not for any great length of time with a young family. It was bad enough with my father having been in the army, and my brother and I traipsed all over the world, I didn't want for our children to have to go through the same thing. As much as it was fun as a child, boarding school was a thing I did not enjoy.
Got to go now girls, got the doctors shortly, for the results of my blood tests. See you all later. Love Mo xxx

Mo im the same, money seems to be the least thing social services seem to sort out, but like you its making a difference to a childs life, she started college today its a skill up programme as she missed her exams as her mum was dragging her around the country, reading through her history she was heading for A and A* Bs, thankyfully there are now these courses for vunerable people, my daughter is home from thr RAF this weekend so that will be nice too.
Hi Ann well done you, yes thats the problems the forms moving, the stress of a parent finding you list is endless xx :-D

Mo. have you tried Gavilast for your heartburn? You take 1 tablet and it lasts 8 hours. If I have heartburn at night I take one and it works for me. Pleased to hear Sallie is ok, she was around over the weekend, or maybe it was Friday.
I have managed to get two cards finished today, July is a busy time for birthdays in this family and while I had all my other cards made I hadn't made the family ones. Just got OH's to do now, need to think about that one.
We fostered in the 60s/70s but except for two ours were all under 8 and ours were all short term. Saying that we did have one baby boy from 2 weeks to 6 months. I gave up when yet another house move meant we'd have to go all through the registration process for the third time.

Hello girls, Lorraine, I do know how you feel about the young lad. If the youngsters have not had a permanant father figure in their lives, they are torn apart by trying to please the mother. They live with the fear of her rejction by her, when ever she feels like having a fling or spree. My eldest two foster children were Nigerian, and Dad returned to his mother country, when mum was pregnant with their third child, and never returned. Mum brought the children up alone, after they returned to her, and she worked like a trojan to keep a roof over their heads, and food in their bellies. I started of doing private fostering, and received £25 a week, to feed and clothe the children. The money side of it didn't bother me, I did it out of my love for children. When we decided to retire from private fostering, my social worker asked us to do the respite work, hence us taking in lots of problem children. But the final results were for the most, very very good. Till we got to the final problem mother...enough said about her, as words could not express my detestation of the woman.
Aah Huia, what a shame about your Queen Victoria plate. We all keep some old things, in hopes that some day they will become collectables, for our grandchildren, but we don't always know how many were mass produced at the time. A friend bought me a beautiful china cup and saucer, with the faces of Prince William and Kate Middleton, prior to their wedding. They are both in their boxes, and I shall never take them out of them. But I know that thousands were manufactured at the same time, and it would take donkeys years for them to be of any value at all, to anyone. I love them, and they sit in my China Cabinet, with my Royal Albert china, and crystal glasses and decanters, but will never be of great value, but will be handy for my great grandchildren to display in future years, should they want them as memento's of me.
Sylvia, it's surprising how many of us are on statins, and suffer from this tickly annoying cough. But mine has been occuring since I was about 9 years old, such a flippin nuisance I can tell you. If I suck a sweet on retiring, I get reflux, and wake up with rotten heart burn, so I can't bloomin win. It would not be the first time for me to have fallen asleep, with the sweet in my mouth, and to wake with it stuck on the inside of my cheek, and dribble on my pillow from sucking it. Oooh I am a dirty mucky kid arn't I lol
I had a p.m from our Sallie, she is well, and will be back with us very soon. She seems quite chirpy love her, lets hope and pray she continues in this vain.
Well once again, I must go and sort out some grub for the two of us. Take care my friends. Love and hugs Mo xxx

Sylvia, that is interesting about the cough as I take Simvastatin, maybe that is my problem, still better to keep the cholestrol down, the cough is not that bad.
Huia you had a good spend at the antiques fair then, I'd like a display cabinet, then I'd like space to put one as well which explains why I have not bought one :-D

Hi Mo
and everyone
Mo ................. I also have a funny little cough every now and again, especially at bedtime.
I also have Post Nasal Drip, and have a prescribed nasal spray to help with that.
BUT I'm told that my cough is due to one of the medications I take. It is a common side effect of a medication taken for high cholesterol ............ any of the ones ending in -statin. And I've been told that if the medication is working, then I just have to put up with the cough. If the medication isn't working on the cholesterol, then they might be able to find another drug that doesn't have this side effect.
All I do is suck a cough lozenge ............... the cough usually stops as soon as I put the thing in my mouth! I use a herbal lozenge called Bentasil, from Sweden. It has honey and lemon, and no drugs. Ricola from Switzerland also works well for me.
Huia ................ how did you get on with your tooth??????
Take care everyone

mo, its so nice to chat with someone else, at the moment we are asking for the girls brother he is 13 and same thing the mother floats round the country with the poor kids leaving friends clothes toys etc, she has finally een caught lying to get into refuges.the young boy came to stay for the day last week, we went and got him some chinos and hitops lol something i learned = boots and trousers, he has bennin a school 7 miles away so we hope she will agree, his sister with her eing of age will get support from young persons scheme and of course she has me and specky i cried when he went back, he had held the door open for me offered to do some jobs, he asked specky if he could help, but the thing that made me cry was he said it looks like im going to have to work twice as hard at school and twice as hard at college like his brother because of his unsettled way of life.
what usually happens when she is rehommed she will want rid of the boy so she can party, its outrages as we down sized 3 yrs ago we will have to turn the dining room into a bedroom, i dont want to move i love it here, but we have to play it by the book, its strange where the passion comes from to want to help he is so bright, he has promised me he will look after himself but i worry he is a very pretty boy, i dont need to say an ymore.but well done you tooxxx

Good evening.
I went to an antiques fair yesterday. I took with me a glass plate of Queen Vic's diamond jubilee. It has a crack in it and I wondered if it could be repaired but the expert said that unless I was very wealthy it was not worth it as loads of them were churned out, in fact they had had one at the fair the previous day.
I bought myself a small display cabinet, spent far more than I would have liked, but have wanted one for all my knick knacks for years, save dusting. It is now installed where my piano had been. It is not exactly an antique. The man makes them from re-cycled timber. This one from rimu, which we have as flooring in our lounge.
I also bought a small blue wedgewood dish in the shape of a trefoil. I decided to give it to my sister as she is in guiding (trefoil guild) and once mentioned that she didnt have any wedgewood and would love some. I hope she likes it. It will be a belated 80th birthday present.
I met our postie there so we had lunch together. I was telling her about Dave's funeral which she would have liked to attend, but was doing her rounds. I saw a tear come to her eye and told her to stop that or she would start me. Can you see the pair of us howling over our cups of tea? Dave was the loveliest man. I had saved one of the sheets of service for her and she seemed to appreciate that.
Off to the hospice shop today. I hope I dont cough too much, but I am taking my aniseed balls and can pop one into the corner of my mouth to let it slowly disolve. It seems to control the cough to a large extent. Pity about my teeth and weight though!
Huia.

Good evening girls, Lorraine, we started fosering over twenty five years ago. Our first baby was six months old at the time, and then when her younger brother was born, two years later, we had him as well at the same time. They stayed with us, till the eldest one was seven. Mum then went on to have another child, but we decided enough was enough, and refused to have him. We then did respite care for Social Services for about six years. But when it got to the point where the last childrens mother was getting more help than the children, I decided enough was enough. It was the children that needed the help, not the moo of a mother. She was such a hateful person, suffice to say, that one child suffered more than enough at her hands, and nothing was done against her. We are still in contact with our very first two children, and speak to them very often on here. The eldest is now 25, but still lives at home with her mother. The boy is now at university, and aged 23. They make me feel sooo proud that we did a good job with them, at the beggining of their lives, and they still think of us as mum and dad, even though they have their own mum. Talking of your oxygen mask, my friends husband has one, and it keeps her awake at night, clunking away to itself.
Linda, I have got to see the doctor on Tuesday, about my blood tests, and knowing Roly, he is bound to mention my cough again. We are very lucky here, the hosepipe ban has been lifted in this area. But we have had soo much rain, our plants haven't needed so much watering, just a light watering does the job thank you.
Sylvia, I hope Canada day goes well for you all. Will you be able to see the fireworks from your house? Like you, I no longer like crowded places. It was different when I was younger, but then different times all together weren't they. You could walk the streets without fear of getting mugged, and your purse stolen. These days there are to many drunken yobs walking the streets after dark, and really also during daylight hours.
Ann, next time I contact Jean, I will pass your message on ,re the package you received. Hows you and T doing now? Did you watch the tennis last night, Andy Murrays game I mean. My word it didn't finish till eleven o clock last night. I know one thing for sure, he will have to up his game in the next round, but last night was a thrilling match to watch.
No news from Sallie or Caz, lets hope they are both o.k. Has anyone heard how Joyce is now. ? I know she was not to good after going to the meet.
Must go now girls. Take care everyone. Love Mo xxx

Hi mo yes its for that i dont really undestrand why i have it but i hold my breath 25 times a hour and snore very loud so the machine starts of nice and slow, and when i wake for a drink its like a cold hairdryer going off, its horrendous to look at there is a strap across my head mask witch clips into head straps that go round the back, first night was difficuklt
but last night was better i managed to have no leakage from it so according to monitor i went to be at 6 ish (always shatterd from charity stall) woke for drinks etc and slept till 10am this morning feeling very rested, so looking forward to tonight.
specky understands what you mean as i would wake him and he would say if i was asleep the snoring and grunting was bad but what was worse was the breath holding, until he prodded me, he said it feels like forever but its prob not that long, its just worrying.
when i was tested about 6 byrs ago one othe hospital doc or mine said i had it other said i didnt so no treatment, but difference with this test they put a clip on my finger which recorded breathing.
i really hope they can help roly more than they are doing, must be worrying for you too.
specky cant get over the silence lol. i didnt realise i wouldnt snore. :-0 :-0
yes young lady is good , we had fostered a younger girl and still keep in touch she still calles me muvver but lets call her A is in transition from child to adult so it works out like she is lodging with care, we have a lot off appointments tomorrow
i loved doing it before but i am to unwell for younger care now
we just been for sunday dinner at mums which she loved and met mum, so all good
how long did you foster mo , it is nice making a difference, my mum really annoyed me a few yrs ago, she said something on the lines of "oh i couldnt be doing with that it wasnt her fault children were left like this, well she has never gone out of her way for anyone, so id sooner be me anyday, i dont think you choose to be kind i think your born that way, I always say im not getting involved with things anymore other than caring, like emptying your fridge for a friend without a thankyou, running people around without offer of petrol, we do tend to get rained on but i like me and specky and glad we are like this than like my mum.
does anyone else feel there the ones that try to solve everyones problems then end up being piggy in the middle, or you give and give, not to get but just a thankyou would do
better go before im chucked off
love to everyone xxx :-D

Afternoon people. Linda your shawl sounds as if it will be ebautiful, I don't think I'd have the patience to knit in 3 ply these days. I do sometimes suffer with reflux so that could be the answer to my night time cough ( which is not every night).
