I went to the camera club last night with my 4 prints. I got an Honours for my photo of the log hauler, and Highly Commended for 2 of my other photos. Much better than I expected to do, although the judge did make comments on improving them.

Today I need to go to town to see if I can get a decent photo of myself to put on the Hospice Angel website.

Helloooo everyone, thank goodness I am able to get onto here at long last.
I have been without my laptop since last Thursday, due to lots and lots of Trojans and viruses by the millions. No more games on facebook for me from now on.

I will try and pop on later to speak to you, but I have darts tonight, and loads to do before that.

Good to see you home our Jean, but sorry to hear the weather was so bad.

Love to you all, Mo xxx

Hello Jean and Ann. Nice to see there is still some life in the thread.

Ann, I am not looking for prizes or points, just want to see what comments are made by the judge on my photos, in the hopes of improving things in future. We can enter 2 photos in the open section and 2 in the set section. This month's subject for the set section is 'wire'. I took a photo (several actually) of some razor wire round the top of a gate, and cropped it and adjusted the angle and lighting until I was satisfied that I could do no better. The other photo in the set section is one I took about a year ago of a log-hauler just up the road. There is a machine with a tall pole on the left with a lot of wires going diagonally to the right, over a pile of logs which have been hauled up. Not a particularly spectacular photo but I thought it would be a bit different from a lot of the others that people would put in.

In the open section I used a photo I took a couple of years ago of a set of stairs on a bush walk, with the native plants growing up the sides. I also used a photo I took a couple of weeks ago in the botanic gardens. I had noticed what looked like a double poppy in 2 colours, red and yellow. When I got closer I found the yellow one had leaned over and was resting in the red one. There are also some rain drops in the yellow one, so I titled it 'dont worry, I have got you'. I might put my photos on facebook after Monday night. My avatar I am probably going to use next month when the set topic is 'blue'.

I am off out again today, so must get moving. Tonight we move our clocks forwards an hour, so I could be on earlier, or is it later? I get a bit confused at times, but then I suppose you will soon be putting your clocks back an hour just to make me more confused. :-| :-S

Sallie, hope the new tablets help you. I expect you have to give them time to work into your system though.

Huia, good luck with the photo competition. What are the photos of?

Jean, what a shame the weather was so bad for you. Makes me realise how lucky we were in Dorset. Checking the forecast for Tenerife it looks as though our second week will have rain unfortunately, thought they'd had it fine for too long.

I haven't e mailed you any photos yet. Some of the wedding photos are on the photo blog.

I will sort out some of Dorset for you to see.

Mo, glad to had a good meal, was the stubborn one there?? :-)

Sallie, I start at the new shop next Monday. Others started on Tuesday and the rest of this week. Last Monday I spent helping to dismantle shelving and packing things.

I went to town again yesterday (Tues) to get 4 photos printed 8" x 10" for the photo competitions next Mon night. I then went to a picture framer to sort out mounts for them. I bought a big sheet of stuff for the backing and the woman is making the cardboard frames to go over the top of the pics. It is costing me, despite the discount she gave, but I can re-use them for future competitions. The camera club meets next Mon night.

I must go now and cut the backing board into 4, the right size. I will go to town tomorrow to pick up the frames and assemble things.

My word Ann, you have got a good memory, yes our team on mondays were going to fold, but, my friend and I decided that we would stay with them this year. And besides, Eve and myself enjoy ourselves in our own way, we are the gruesome twosome really. Roly does the book for the team, so he gets a night out as well

As far as my daughter goes, yes she does hold grudges. She didn't speak to her sister for nearly two years, and when she did, they nearly knocked seven shades out of each other, and this was caused by the stubborn one.

Sallie, I hope the tablets start to work quickly for you sweetheart. There is nothing worse than the old black dog wearing us down as it does, it then becomes harder to get back on track doesn't it. ( I am speaking from experience here, been there, done that, and bought the t/shirt unfortunately.)

We had a lovely meal with the family tonight, I had a rack of ribs, corn on the cob, and jacket potato's, with a big plate of salad. I just couldn't force a dessert down, I was so full up.

Speak to you tomorrow girls, love to you all. Mo xxx

Hi Mo,

Well done on winning last night, keeping my fingers crossed that the winning streak will continue.

Sorry to hear that things are still not right between you and your daughter, it's such a shame. Let's hope that she will come to her senses when she receives your birthday card and flowers next week.

I went to see the doctor yesterday morning, he has put me on some new tablets, so I will have to see how they go. I have to go back to see him in three weeks time, just hope that the weather will be better then, than it was yesterday, it poured down nearly all day.lol!!!

Hope you and Roly will have a nice relaxing time tonight with your son and daughter-in-law.

Love, Sallie.xxx

Mo weren't you 'breaking up' with your darts team or did I imagine that?

We trust our local man completely, he is lovely and such a clean worker so we know he will get us the best deal he can. The rain got to his brain yesterday (his words) and he forgot to call round. He says the doors are a dead loss, can't be fixed. It is two narrow doors to make one door if you see what I mean. He is going to send an estimate. However we can't complain, we have been here over 20 years and the doors were here a few years before that.

I hope you can soon resolve the situation with your daughter, family feuds are so sad. Does she hold grudges?

Sallie, I am so pleased that you have stayed. I think you need us and we need you. Yes we had a lovely time in Dorset and the wedding was the icing on the cake. :-)

Oooh Sallie my love, it's great to know you have stayed with us. Don't worry if you dont post every day, if I get really concerned about you, I will send you an E.Mail or p.m you on here. Dont forget, if you ever want to chat, I am here for you sweetheart.

Nothing has changed between my daughter and myself I'm afraid to say. It is her birthday next week, so I shall get her a nice card and some flowers, and see what happens after that.
Hey guess what Sallie, we won last night...now we know that aint gonna last dont we. Every season we start off well, but then comes the time for the return matches, and we go to pieces lol

Guess what Sallie, yes it's time for my afternoon cuppa and a biscuit to keep me going till my meal tonight.
Take care, love and hugs Mo xxx

Hello girls, as you can all see I am still here.....I decided to stay and am hoping that I will soon feel like posting more often again.

Mo, hope things are better between you and you and your daughter. I hope you won at darts last night.

Hope you enjoy your meal tonight with your son and daughter-in-law. Oh, it's great not to have to cook the evening meal sometimes.

Ann, glad to know that the your grandson's wedding went well and that you all enjoyed yourselves.

Hope you and T enjoyed your week in Dorset, too.

I hope Jean and J are enjoying their holiday in Llandudno. Just hope they didn't get all the rain that we had here yesterday.

Linda, congratulations on the birth of your new grandson. You are going to be a busy lady knitting for them all.

Huia, have you moved into the new shop yet? Is the new shop a lot bigger than the old one.

Hope things aren't too bad with Phil.

Sylvia, glad to know that things seem to be going along ok for you and OH at the moment.

Well, I'll speak to you all again soon.

Take care everyone.

Ann, my friend is one crazy woman. Instead of getting three quotes for her front door, she went with the first man who came to the door.
Her husband works abroad, and she has to arrange for all repairs to be done to the house.
The cost of the door is over £1,300, and she didn't realise she had signed up to a contract for a hire purchase agreement, over a three years period, that will cost her £2,600 odd.
When Roly told her to ring up about it, she was told that she only had a one week cancellation period, but on going through the paperwork, it was in fact two weeks, but, she had left it to late, and that if she cancelled, she would lose her £800 deposit. So now she is hoping to be able to make an early repayment on completion.
What she wanted to do, was pay the deposit, and then the rest of the money on completion, but she is so dappy, she signed whatever was put in front of her.
She has now been told she will have to wait another 5-8 weeks before the door is made. And in the meantime put up with water coming under her front door. Oooh she is a silly billy, I dont know what I am going to do with her.

We are going for a meal tonight, with our son and daughter in law, goody, no cooking tonight for me.
Take care everyone, love Mo xxx

No Mo, the lock is still not fixed, hevcan't do it. We were expecting the man who fitted our front door to come round this evening but he didn't come. Hope he comes tomorrow now. The house is secure though as it is an inner door.

Good grief Ann, your lunch with the family sounded rather hectic, but I bet you enjoyed every minute of it didn't you.
It's good to hear that the wedding went well though. After our affair it's a blessing to have a nice ending to a wedding.
Did T manage to sort out the Conservatory door lock out?

A friend of ours is waiting to hear when her new front door will be ready for fitting, as the old door is warped at the bottom, and does not close properly.
All I hope is that she has not had the rain pouring in her front door, with all this deluge we have had over the past two days.

Must go now girls, darts tonight, so wish me luck. Bye for now, love to all. Mo xxx

Yes Mo, it was wet and very mucky for the whole journey home. But yesterday was glorious for the wedding, clear bright blue skies and sunshine all day. It all went off very well, the ceremony was lovely, the bride and groom looked happy all the time and the reception and evening do were very well run. We were all tired by the time we left at 9.30pm but some of the youngsters including the bride and groom were there until gone 12 midnight. The bride and groom called round to see us this morning which was nice as we had a houseful there including our son and Granddaughter, two Grandsons and daughter and husband, one grandson's girl friend and son in law's sister. The bride and groom left and we were nine for lunch. Chaotic but great.

One thing we didn't need when we got home was to be told by our neighbour that the lock has jammed on our inner conservatory door. Luckily the outer door is still locked but it looks like we need to get a new lock. So a job for T tomorrow. As if there wasn't enough to do. :-(

Ooops sorry Huia, I thought you were buying a ready cooked Pizza from the shop.
How rude of people to say the cake was not sweet enough, and lacked flavour
.How could someone say that, I would have kept my mouth shut and not said anything, for fear of upsetting the person who had made them, but then some people are so insensitive to other peoples feelings arn't they.
I bet your song bought a tear to one or two peoples eyes.
Night Night god bless love. xxx

Huia Report 23 Sep 2012 21:39

I over ate at the party. There were so many lovely things there, from about 20 ladies, a plate each. I did take my 'failure'. When I had cooked the pizza I put the cup cakes in the oven for a short time and was able to peel off the paper cups, but they were very sticky to pick up. One woman tried one and didnt like it as she said it was not sweet enough and didnt have enough flavour. I brought them home. I liked the taste, and they were nice and chewy, even though they should have been a light cake. If I try the recipe again I will do half quantity in a smaller tin and cook it longer. But I probably wont try it again, I dont do much baking these days. At least most of the pizza was eaten, but I wont take anything hot another time as it needed re-heating when I got there. I will just take some grapes, they go nicely after eating sweet cakes or savouries.

I go in to our old shop today to help pack the remainder of the stuff for moving. I sang them a song at the party:

"'There was a Hospice shop in Papakura town
Alas, that shop has now closed down, now closed down
And we are going to Takanini
As tears flow down our cheeks so free. (Yes, I know the grammar is wrong)

Goodbye old shop we are leaving
But we soon will cease our grieving
For we're going to make the new shop better in the by-and-by.
Adieu to you old shop adieu adieu adieu
We can no longer stay in you, stay in you
We will work so hard to make the new shop zing
And be so happy we will sing."

No prizes for guessing the tune. I did have trouble trying to think of words for the last lines.

Good evening girls,
I wonder where you all are today, if you have any sense you will be tucked up indoors away from this downpour that has lasted all day.
I was very lucky this morning. I decided it was time to start to put the garden to bed for the winter. And I had just finished pruning my big bush fuscia, when it started to drizzle.
I quickly managed to put it in the recycling bin, before the heavens opened.
At least that can now go out for collection on Tuesday, otherwise it would have been far to wet for me to get out and prune tomorrow.

I wonder in Ann and T have travelled home following their grandsons wedding. I hope it wasn't pouring down for their journey.

Huia,I was tickled pink by your description of how your Angel Food cake turned out, and what you did to try and salvage it lol
How did the Pizza go down that you cheated and bought ;-) I would have been tempted to buy one the same as you, I have to admit.
It's been years since I have done any real home baking. My favourite cake to make was my Christmas cake, the recipe came from a little book that my mum bought years ago. She also gave me an old Bero cook book, thats now held together by selotape, after being used so many times by myself when my children were young. Aaah those were the days, when it was far cheaper creating recipes, for our large family, than buying ready made meals.
Now I enjoy going to M+S and treating ourselves to some of their wonderful meals, mmmm very tasty.

I will say cheerio from a wet and miserable evening in Kent, and hopefully I will speak to you tomorrow, as my darts season starts tomorrow night.
Take care everyone, love and hugs, Mo xxx

I went into the old shop yesterday afternoon. We started dismantling some of our display cabinets. The shop was half empty and we didnt have many customers. I was going to get a photo of the boss locking the door for the last time but missed it but I got her to pose as if she was locking it. Unfortunately it was against the brightness outside but I have managed to lighten it a bit. Last night I put all of my shop photos onto a DVD for her. We are having a party at her place this afternoon. I tried to make an angel food cake a couple of days ago to take, but although I left it in the oven for 1hr 20mins as against the recipe time of 50-60 mins. When I turned it upside down on a plate and left it for a while as per the recipe, when I then tried to remove the tin I found a horrid mushy dough on the plate and in the tin, so I grabbed some paper cup cake things and spooned the dough into them and cooked them for another hour. They were cooked by then, but I am having difficulty removing the paper from them, so they wont be going to the party. I bought a pizza to cook and take instead. :-0 I should have bought one from the Hell Pizza shop!
