Mo in Kent Report 8 Oct 2012 18:18

Hello lonely little thread.
Apart from Huia, no one has visited us, boo hoo.
Huia, you are a gad about lately arn't you love. Still thats better than being stuck in the house all the time isn't it.
I had a good chuckle at your saying it's a good job you had bought, new bits from the op shop. I bet you have enough clothes in your wardrobe to dress the rest of us for weeks on end. lol
Did you go for your walk over the valley?
There would be no way I would have gone out for a walk today here, it's been chucking it down with rain since 10 a.m. We did go and get a few bits of shopping that we needed, but soon came home again. We were frozen to the marrow as well.
Going to get into my bath now, ready for darts tonight, so I will say cheerio for now.
Love and hugs Mo xxx

Huia Report 6 Oct 2012 20:54

Mo, Phil is still alive (although I cant add 'and kicking') but I need to get the coffin made before he dies. I might also make one for myself if there is enough suitable timber left over. They will probably be 'patchwork' coffins, made with all sorts of odds and ends of timber. It would be good to use them up and tidy up the workshop a bit.

Although today is Sunday I might do the washing. I havent done any for ages as I have been out so much and we have had some showery days. There was a very strong and bitterly cold wind yesterday but it is not much wind today. It is just as well I have bought so many clothes from the op shop as I would have run out of clean clothes ages ago!

If it is still fine after lunch I might go for a walk over in the valley.

Oh well, I am dissapointed now Ann. No tipple for me tonight then, ah well I can dream I suppose.
It sounds lovely over there today, 30 degrees of warmth lubberly jubberly.
Having the car will enable you to do the things you want, and not tie you down to just the local places wont it. ( not that you wouldn't enjoy even that, just being able to relax in the sunshine is a nice change. )
Enjoy yourself with Wendy tomorrow. Speak to you soon Ann. xxx :-D

About 30 degrees here today, hardly ant breeze and a beautiful clear blue sky.
We have a car for three days so that we can drive up to see Wendy (Tenerife Sun) tomorrow. So we have been out and about a bit todaybtobtwo different fishing villages, lovely to sit by the sea and eat a fish tapas lunch. :-D

Oh my goodness Huia, I had to read your post over again. When I read that you wanted to make Phils coffin, I had thought you had lost the dear boy.
You are one strong lady being able to do this, as I certainly wouldn't be able to face it.
You are as bad as my Roly for wanting free pens. He will send off for insurance quotes if they offer free pens, and then not bother to take up the offers, but keeps the pens.
Our kitchen drawer was full to bursting at one point, but I had a good clear out, as some of them had dried up, where he had had them so long.

I wonder if Ann is looking in today.. If you are Ann, have a small glass of wine for me please. As I dont drink anymore, I have a hankering to know what it tastes like these days. lol It must be a sweet white wine though.

I hope our Sallie is o.k as she has not been spotted for a few days.
Sending my love to Jean and J <3 <3 <3

And for our Caz <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 Healing Prayers <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Thinking of Marie and Sylvia over the waters, and hoping they are both doing well.

Bye for now girls, love and hugs Mo xxx

I forgot, I also got a free flower from the funeral directors at the show! I had told them I want to make Phil's coffin (for cremation) and wondered about type of wood etc. I am not the first to have asked, apparently, but not too many want to do the making. He told me the dimensions, asked if I would be making it shaped but I decided not. They would need to test the wood for the furnace to make sure it doesnt have any 'nasties' in it for fumes going up the chimney.

Huia Report 5 Oct 2012 22:36

I did get a couple of free pens at the expo, Mo. My home is overflowing with pens. I also got some advice from an old school friend. She was on a stall re hearing problems and when I told her how useless my aids are she suggested I ask somebody to refer me for a free cochlea implant. She has one. I dont know if hers was free or if she had to pay for it. There is a long wait for the free ones, which is why she suggested I dont waste time but try to get on the waiting list now. She is going to parliament soon to try to urge them to cut down the wait. I had thought of the implant when the woman where I got my aids said she had gone as far as she could go with my aids, but I thought they would cost me. There have been quite a few occasions in the hospice shop when I have felt I should give up working there as I have trouble hearing some of the customers, but I enjoy working there and chatting to people when they speak clearly. It would be so isolating to stay at home and not meet people, although I would still have GR for friendship, but not quite the same as face-to-face. :-(

Oooh good grief Sylvia, those suggestions for food at thanks giving made me chuckle.
I shouldn't think the salad being cooked in the chicken sauce would be very appetising.
And as for the turkey being cooked in that time, wellll it leaves a lot to the imagination, and the hospital food would probably taste better after the bad reaction one would have after digesting it. ( the turkey I mean )
It sounds like it was bitterly cold up at the cabin though. Did your husband manage to put a new screen up in the Veranda area for you, to keep those pesky bears out in the winter months.?

Huia, my doctor has now put me on the Atorvastatin 20mg tablets. How have you been since taking them? I was taking 40mg of the Simvastatin, far to high a dosage probably, but at least they bought my cholesterol down from 7.2 to 3.2.

Did you manage to see your daughter yesterday at her gym? And did you get some of the freebies at the expo.

I struggled up to town today with Roly's help, to get the weekly shopping. For goodness sake, we bought the same things we bought last week, but it cost us over £4.00 more.
Food keeps rising in prices, but our pension doesn't.
Today is my daughters birthday.... we have taken a bouquet of flowers and a card down to her house.
Roly did phone her house yesterday to find out if she would be home today. But he got a txt instead saying she would be out all day, and out for a meal this evening.
Normally they leave their side gate unlocked, but today when Roly took the flowers down, it had been locked, so he had to leave the flowers outside of the gate.
I have sent her a txt, wishing her a happy birthday, and sending her all my love.
So now I will sit back and see if there is any reaction from her. If not, it will mean not only have I lost a daughter, but also two wonderful grandchildren and a fine son in law.

Well my friends, I will close now, as my lovely OH, has just bought me in a nice cup of tea.
Love and hugs to you all, Mo xxx

Hi Mo xx

and everyone
xxx

Mo ...... sorry to hear you had a problem. I've been on Simvastatin for years, and haven't had any problems with it ..... touch wood!!!

We had our last trip this year up to the cabin from Monday to Wednesday ....... we spent the 2 nights in a hotel in the nearby town, and drove out to the cabin on Tuesday to do the last necessary bit.

We had a good trip up north, the weather was OK on Monday, grey and chilly on Tuesday ..... and fantastic on Wednesday!!

It was chilly at about 6 or 7C up at the cabin on Tuesday ........ but OH had taken both the large and small axes, and cut some of the stored logs into suitable sizes for the wood stove. So I sat inside in the lovely warmth, while he worked outside! There was one spell of about 10 minutes when I had to go out onto the sun porch to help him ........... which has screened windows but no glass in them, so it gets all the "fresh" air. I was well wrapped up!!

It was one of those screens that the guy(s) ripped out this spring to get access to the cabin. I was afraid that a bear might climb in through the open space to "den" for the winter. I didn't fancy facing him next spring:-D :-D

It was -3C at about 8:30 am Wednesday morning when we were having our breakfast in the hotel prior to leaving. It was, however, sunny with clear blue skies ............... and we had that all the way home. In fact, we had to turn on the air conditioning in the car after lunch!

I picked up a little free local advertising/newspaper in the coffee shop up there on Wednesday ........

...... it is Thanksgiving in Canada this coming Monday, and they had printed recipes for common foods at Thanksgiving, as recommended by the Kindergarten Class (ages 5 to 6). I thought you might enjoy them.

Turkey ............. you buy the turkey and take the paper off it. Then you put it in the refrigerator and take it back out and cut it with a knife and make sure all the wires are out and take out the neck and heart. Then you put it in a big pan and cook it for half an hour at 80 degrees. Then you invite people over and eat.

Chicken Pie ............... Put the chicken in the pot and put the salad and cheese and mustard and then you mix it all together. Then put chicken sauce and stir it all around again. Then you cook it for 5 minutes at 9 degrees. Then you eat it.

Pumpkin Pie ............. First you put pumpkin seeds in it. Put it in a pan and bake it at 5 degrees for 6 minutes. Then take it out and eat it.

Deer Jerky (a dried meat) ....... Put it in the oven overnight at 20 degrees. Then you go hunting and bring it with you. Then you eat it.

:-D :-D :-D

Take care everyone

I had originally been on simvastatin but my arms and legs were aching a lot so I was switched to the more expensive (but not for me!) atorvastatin.

I am going out today to Pukekohe to a Positive Ageing (should that have an e in?) Expo. Nice to wander around and chat to people I know and some I dont and pick up a few freebies. I might even see my daughter as the gym where she works has a display on the stage this afternoon and they had a stall as well last year.

Oooh Ann, you lucky girl, being over there in the sunshine. No wonder Jean and myself are so jealous, it's rotten here again today.
My winter woolies and jumpers are being worn already, coz it's so chilly willy outside.
Ann, if you check on the leaflet of your tablets, it does say about one of the side affects could be pins and needles, or as in my case paralysis in my legs, or it could affect the arms.
Just get it checked out if it continues love.
Enjoy your holiday, and send a little warmth our way purleeze. :-D :-D :-D

<3 <3 <3 <3 <3 loving thoughts and prayers for Caz. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

I am being spoilt rotten by Roly, but am feeling so guilty having him run around after me.
He is doing a curry for our dinner tonight, following my instructions of course lol
I wont be out to darts tonight, I will look rather stoopid trying to throw darts and keep my balance at the same time, I would end up on the fllor again, and am not prepared to take that risk.
Take care everyone, love Mo xxx

Just peeping in from our sunny balcony overlooking the sea in Tenrife. We are on B and B here so feel pretty stuffed at the moment. Plus side is no need to buy lunch.

I see you have been throwing yourself around on the floor Mo. hope the new pills are ok. Which ones are they? Strange as I am on Simvastatin and I do sometimes get pins and needles in my right foot. Hmm!

Sorry to hear that Caz is poorly. Please give her my love when you speak Jean.

Speak again soon.

Well done Huia with the photos.

Jean, my lickle love.
I have been on these tablets for the last six months, and recently I have been getting pins and needles in my right foot, and not thought much about it. But having that fall yesterday made me check my medications, and lo and behold, sure as eggs is eggs, my symptoms were identical to one of the side affects.
I was like a real drunken bum, when I ended up on the floor, talk about legless.
I wish it were alchohol that had caused it believe me, but I aint touched a drop of licker for donkeys years.
I cant even have a piece of tipsy cake, for fear of being drunk and disorderly in charge of me shopping trolley. lol
Love <3 and (((((HUGS)))) to you both. xxx

Hello girls,
Well what do you think of this dozey mare, moi.
I am sitting here with a badly sprained ankle, after collapsing on the floor yesterday.
Our doctor has said it was caused by the simvastatin I am on. I have been getting pins and needles in my foot for a few weeks now, but yesterday, I stood up to make a cup of tea for us, and didnt realise that I had no feeling at all, in my foot or leg.
When I put my right foot to the floor, I ended up in a heap on the carpet.
The doctor has now taken me off the tablets and has given me a new one to start tomorrow.
I had to go to the doctors in a pair of flip flops, as I could not get my shoe on. In this weather thats not a good idea at all, brrr my poor little tootsies were frozen.

Jean, our littlie Lilly, is also suffering from the terrible twos, even though she is not two till January. She can scream for England when she wants to, especially if she doesn't get her own way.
She still doesnt have a regular bedtime, and can still be up and running around the house at midnight. Coooo I can just see me putting up with that cant you.
Little madam would have been in a routine ages ago.

<3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 Special thoughts for our Caz. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Take care everyone, love and hugs Mo xxx
