Mo in Kent Report 21 Oct 2009 19:43

Will you be spending christmas with your family Huia. I do hope so,as the first one will be very emotional for you.
I bought a lot of stocking fillers,in the January sales,so I am ahead in those stakes.
There are bag loads in our attic, but we will have to move them soon,as we are having new insulation put into the loft.
It is being done by the home front team. Have any of you applied for it.
Apparantly they were telling us,that if you are getting any benefits ie Council Tax help, they will allocate £3.500 per house. To go towards loft insulation, boilers, cavity wall insulation, and windows etc. The only thing they say we need is the attic being done again. But should our boiler break down, they will send someone out to repair it,or replace it,with us paying the difference.
Thinking of you Huia, keep your chin up love.
Bye for now. Love Mo xxx

Jean, fortunately my service was a 'small' one (garage words not mine), And the actual service was only £27 + VAT. Then there was the oil filter and oil, it was the tyres that cost the money £47 each + VAT.

Sallie

Sallie Report 21 Oct 2009 20:22

Hi again,

Huia, I bought two jumpers a couple of years ago, one for Jennie and one for her friend Laura, forgot that I had bought them, so bought them another one each. I found the first two jumpers I had bought, in the middle of February, when I opened a small suitcase that I was going to pack ready to go Richard's for a few days.
I hope that you will be with your family for Christmas, it will be a bit easier for you, with the family around you.

Mo, the weather was the same here this morning, but started to dry up this afternoon. So it will be a lot nicer for all the fair goers.
I hadn't, heard of the Home Front team, until it was mentioned on one of the threads on GR, can't remember which one it was. It sounds like a good scheme for those that are eligible for it.

Hope all our friends on here are all okay.

Love and best wishes to everyone. Sallie.xxx

We had warm front we dont have any benefits, well D got it because of the M.S. we had a new combi boiler , they allowed us a sum of money , we had to pay £99, extra... the most money was spent on scaffolding, our plumber/ property guy, said it wasnt really needed , but they are adamant it is health and safety, it was a huge sructure covered the entire back of the house and part of next door, I think it was only used once and we got the conservatory roof cleaned while it was up .....they have been back to service it all free...I would say give it a try , its either yea or nay..
we have friends who have had cavity walls done ....google it and the info is there ...

Huia, its always emotional at times when you are alltogether, but be with your family it does help.. and of course we are always here for you....
Phil wont know its any different, and he will be in a safe place which is important to you both,

AnninGlos Report 21 Oct 2009 20:48

Well we are not eligible under the new scheme but we were a couple of years ago under the old scheme. We qualified to have most of our cavity wall insulation paid for and would also have qualified for loft insulation but we already had a lot and couldn't face emptying it to get the extra layer in.

Sallie

Sallie Report 21 Oct 2009 21:29

Ann, I don't think we would qualify for Warmfront either, as we don't receive any benefits at all.

Mo, I'm sorry to hear about the new doors for your kitchen cupboards, let's hope that they will arrive earlier than expected. Will they be able to put the new cupboards in before the doors arrive? At least it will save some time, especially as we are getting nearer to Christmas.

Goodnight all, speak to you tomorrow.

Love, Sallie.xx

Huia Report 22 Oct 2009 04:50

Oooh, MO, you are looking older! Happy birthday anyway.

Re Christmas, we usually have the family here on Boxing Day as it suits both son and daughter better since they have 'other' families to consider and it doesnt make any real difference to us. Phil is a bit of a bah humbug man, he was never into Christmas. Another day will be in January when he is due to turn 80. And a week later will be my birthday (and sons). Phil was not really 'with it' on our 50th wedding (I had put weeding, had to alter it) anniversary last March. We didnt have any celebration or get-together apart from son coming up from Rotorua. My flower girl flew out to Myanmar early that morning and my bridesmaid and Phils best man are both dead, so it wasnt worth organising anything.

I shouldnt be on here, I have to think about packing for my long weekend away, I hope to leave about lunch time tomorrow. If I am packed. I hope I dont forget anything.

Huia.

Thank you girls for the birthday wishes, they mean a lot to me.
Huia, have a lovely time in Rotorua.
Huia, when I looked in the mirror this morning, there was another wrinkle.
I must change this Polly filler for cement I think.
I will see you tonight girls. Love Mo xxx

Deborah Report 22 Oct 2009 13:38

Hi Girls, how are you all today? I have read all the past few pages with interest. Jean, I hope the Kitchen is starting to look real now that you have actually chosen everything in the colours you want. I always leave choosing things like that to the other half. He usually has a better idea than me about colours for different sized rooms and light/dark areas. I'm a bit inpractical when it comes to such matters.

Huia, I am sure you have left by now, so I hope you had a good weekend, and managed to put other matters to one side for a short while. You have the same situation with Phil and his teeth as we do with my F-in-L and his hearing aid. It is frustrating for us to try and communicate with him, but if we got him a new one it may throw him completely off track. The illness is so awful isn't it and you never quite know how the person is going to react to such "change" in their lives.

Oh, cars and their problems. I have had my Bus for just over 3 years. During the first 3 years it was serviced by the garage who sold it to me and all problems were covered by the warranty. But now there is no longer a warranty on it, things have really started to go wrong. I had to have the brakes all renewed yesterday, pads & discs at the front and just pads at the back. No change out of £386.00. Now I have all different lights flashing that need to be sorted. These have been investigated before and the selling Garage told me there was nothing wrong. But my new garage have now been very honest with me, given me a breakdown of the parts that need looking into and an estimate for the costs. I will get a bit done each month so that it doesn't seem so bad on the purse. All in all it is going to cost me about £800.00 more to get the things fixed. They are things that have to be done, and I can't leave them too long. Oh the joys of having a modern car which is so computerised you can't do simple things with it. We need a big car as there are 6 of us when we are all there, and I so often have extra children, it is really handy to have it.

We've finally had rain over here, quite a lot yesterday and overnight, drizzle thismorning (whilst I was on my walk), and it is clearing now. The reservoirs are so empty, it is going to take a lot more before we have sufficient to keep us all going without having to resort to other methods of obtaining water. I watched a football tournament in a thunderstorm yesterday and am going to watch Matthews year play rugby against a school from England thisafternoon. Mo, real rugby playing weather!!! Oh the washing machine will be on overtime tonight.

Anyway, gotta go and get a casserole in the oven to be cooking whilst I am out, then the children won't have to moan for too long thisevening about how "starving" they are after school. Happy days.

So many smellies from the body shop, and from Sanctuary at boots.
Chocolates,slippers,socks. Dove products.
See everyone thinks I smell, hence all the scented products.
And I have had ten birthday cards.

Poor Debbie, all that rain, and muddy clothes to wash.lol Been there ,done that and bought the t/shirt.
I really dont envy you Debbie. Do you have a tumble dryer,to get the washing dry.
I know when my five were little, and we invested in one,it was a blessing in disguise.
Has our Sallie been on today. I don't remember seeing her. Hi Saalliiee

Hello Girls,

Mo, it certainly looks as though you are having a great birthday. Lots of lovely presents too. I love smellies from the Body Shop, although they are a bit expensive. Are all the family going out for a meal with you and Roly on Saturday? Enjoy the rest of your birthday.

Debbie, I'm sorry that you are having to pay out so much on the car, especially as you say, all these problems were pointed out to the garage that you bought the car from. Hope Matthew's rugby match went well-- and that you all enjoyed the casserole. How is your Dad and Sister getting on? Hope they are both going along alright.

Jean, hope you are managing to get organised, ready for next week. Just think, two weeks of making cards and doing what you want to do. Oh lovely!

Huia, I expect you are now on your way to Rororua, have a lovely long weekend, I'm sure it will do you the world of good. Take care of yourself!

Alun is gone to the model railway club tonight, so I'm going to make myself a cuppa and get on with some scrap pages.

Good wishes to you all.

Love, Sallie.xxx

Hi stranger,Sue it's good to hear from you again. It sounds like you have been busy, with your tree. It's nice to hear that the kiddies are o.k.
Sallie,at the moment there are only five of us going saturday night. Finances are a bit tight, for some of the family,at the moment with christmas coming up. When you take into account that one of my daughters has three children, plus the two adults,it can work out quite expensive.
Steady on Jean, don't pack to much in that tote bag, poor J will end up with a hernia, and he does not need that.
Marilyn is on her way to her family,I am not sure if she has arrived yet.
I believe they live Norfolk way.
We have not heard from Ann,I hope she and her OH are o.k.
Love and best wishes to you all. Mo xxx

Yes thanks I am fine, we were in town today as I had a chiropodist appointment and then we had lunch out. We tried a different pub for lunch, a really old one with all beams, quite quaint called the Dick Wittington, right near the cathedral. Lunch was very good, senior citizens special 2 courses for £4.95.
It was a nasty wet afternoon here, we got wet in town and walking from the bus, made worse by wounded soldier having to limp slowly. I asked the advice of the chiropodist, he insinuated that doctors know very little about plantar faciitis he told me to tell him it wont get better until he stops walking on it, he must rest it completely and he showed me an exercise for him to do twice a day. We shall see. he also said it is a slow job!

I have just about finished making my Christmas cards, made about 145 now, that should be enough. I do have OH's to make which is going to be really difficult if he can't go to golf!!

Glad you enjoyed your birthday Mo sounds like you did very well for presents.

Jean, I told you it was going to be you or that tote in the car!!!!

Hello Mo, Happy birthday to you sorry I missed it I have not had the time to post lately.
Sebastian seems to be doing well .
Hello Sue long time no hear we missed you.
Ann planter warts are dreadful I had one when I was a teenager I ended getting an infection in it,took awhile to heal.
Jean Lighten that tote Bag.
Deborah the cost of upkeep for cars is way too high but we have to have our cars as a bus service is not the best thing, especially when you have 6 children to get to sport.
Sallie I wish I could get the Scrap booking Bug again I have 2 unfinished books to do and another 4 to start, just cant find the energy to start. Mo it sounds like the family spoilt you I hope you have a lovely dinner with your friends.
Huia you may have left already but I sent you an e-mail.
I must go just so much to do LOVE & (((((((HUGS ))))))))))) to you all Marie of OZ.
