We had a super time last night.

I think I have said before, that it is far from cheap, but the food, and the service is soooooo good.

Last night, I had elk on a bed of wild rice, with a blueberry sauce. It was yummy!!

OH had a piece of halibut ............. which he said was very very good.

The owner, who we know quite well, was in, and came over to talk to us several times.

At the end, after we had paid, he came over again to say good night.

I said how good a night it had been, especially after the horrible week ............. and told him about the diagnosis.

He hugged me, gave me a kiss on the cheek ............ and then told OH that OH MUST contact him when the time comes, and they will GIVE us a basket of food. Apparently they make up these baskets, and you can buy them for picnics or dinners at home ............ but we would not be asked to pay!

Wasn't that nice of him??

Sylvia, so pleased that you and OH had a good time at the restaurant last night. The food you had sounds delicious....don't know what elk tastes like but have had halibut a couple of times and really enjoyed it.

That was very kind of the owner of the restaurant and will be something to look forward to when you get home after the operation.

Take care,

Love, Sallie.xxx

Good afternoon girls.
Another glorious day here in Kent,it's very warm but beautiful out in the garden.

Oooh Sylvia, what does Elk taste like, is it the equivalent of any other kind of meat that we may perhaps know about.
How nice that the owner of the restuarant is going to give you a lovely food basket, for after your proceedure. You can both go off somewhere nice, and just relax, and enjoy each others company.

We went to visit baby Lilly yesterday. I can't believe how much she is growing. They have had to buy her clothes for a 12/18 month old.She is only 7months old, so she's going to be a big girl.
She had managed to poke her toes through her baby grows. I had wanted to buy her some pyjamas, but couldn't find any anywhere, so had to get baby grows again.
I didn't realise it would be hard to find pjamas, especially in her size and age catagory.
I always think that babies are treated like a bag of spuds, when parents are throwing them around, changing there little bottoms. Pjamas are so much easier, and I much prefer them.

I hope you are all o.k. Love to you all. Mo xxx

Hi, Thank you Sylvia and I am pleased that you enjoyed your meal. It sounds lovely and unusual. Is Elk gamy like deer or milder like lamb?

What a nice gesture about the food as well.

Mo, all these babies seem so much bigger these days. Our granddaughter has always been in larger clothes than her age. She is now 9 and is in 10/11 year old clothes.

Mo in Kent Report 14 Aug 2011 17:29

Do you know what Ann, it wouldn't surprise me to know that they manufacture them smaller now, so that they get more sales. By skimping on the material, the childrens toes soon go through things like baby grows and.
And as for childrens shoes these days, they cost as much as an adult shoe, in some shops.
When my children were young, we always bought either Clarkes, Barratts or Dolcis shoes.
Do you remember when they used to take photo's/ xray's of childrens feet, to ascertain what size and width they needed. Gone are those days.

Hi Mo, just been reading this thread as l usually do and noticed you said about girls pyjamas, you can buy them in mothercare, not cheap but really pretty ones, x

Mo in Kent Report 14 Aug 2011 20:56

Hi Mummo, many thanks for letting me know about Mothercare. I would have to buy them online, as our local shop closed some time ago. The only problem with that is not knowing if the sizing was right.
I think I will take a look and see where the closest shop to us is. I'm not sure if there is one in Maidstone, or Bluewater so will take a look in a minute.
Thanks once again. xxx

Sallie Report 15 Aug 2011 19:40

Hi Girls,

Sylvia, enjoy your break at the cabin, I'll be thinking about you.

Jean hope things are alright with you and that your vertigo is a lot better.
How is Jeff getting on with driving the car again? I'm sure he must feel pleased to be back behind the wheel again.
Also hope that Debra is getting along okay and coping well.

I met my two friends for lunch today, it turned into a very long lunch break. just over three hours.lol!! One of them lost her brother a few months ago, from leukemia, and up until now hasn't accepted his death. So this morning she went to the doctors and they have put her in touch with Cruse, so hopefully she then be able to start to move on.

We went up to Alun's sister's in Ilkley yesterday to celebrate her and her hubby's 40th Wedding Anniversary, we all had a lovely time with their family and friends......the only problem was that our car broke down on the way there in between Leeds and Ilkley, where they live. Alun's nieice came and picked Jennie and I up, and took us to Alun's sister's while Alun and Michael went with the AA and took the car to a garage in Guisley (where we broke down)and then they got a taxi and joined us all. At least we could join in the celebrations.
Later she took us to Leeds so that we could catch the train home to Derby, where Michael's eldest brother picked us up at the station.

Alun and I will go back up on the train to Leeds on Wednesday to pick the car up, hopefully it will be ready by then. The mechanic from the garage rang Alun at lunchtime and told him that the master cylinder had gone and that they had to order the part and it will cost us £260 to have it done.
It costs enough running a car without having to pay out for things like repairs, but there again we have to pay for the convenience of having it.lol!!

Hope everyone else is alright.

Thinking of you all.

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

Oh good grief Sallie, thank goodness you were not to far away from your destination when the car broke down. It's a good job you had the A.A to help you out.
The last time we broke down, we had recovery as well, so they bought us home, so that we could use our local Ford garage for repairs.
They have always done our servicing etc, so we felt safe in their hands.
I hope you are feeling a little better now, and not so depressed love.
It's sounds like you had fun meeting up with your friends today. Having a good natter does you the world of good.

I hope I am not to late to wish Sylvia and OH a lovely time at the cabin.

How has everyone been this fine day. We have had glorious sunshine yet again, but it has just started to spit with rain.

Take care one and all. (((((((((((((SPECIAL HUGS FOR JEAN))))))))))))))

Good evening all (morning to Marie when she looks in).

Yesterday it snowed in Pukekohe, something it rarely does. I had been there but it didnt snow until I had left for Papakura. Then when I was in the hospice shop the radio reported snow at Bombay (just south of us) and later on snow in Queen St Auckland, a very rare event. I dont know if it snowed in our hills here, I didnt get home until 5pm so missed seeing anything. I am going to be out most of today as well and there are forecasts of more snow falls, but at present it is a cold frosty morning with sunshine.

Huia.

Hi Mo,

Yes thanks I'm feeling a lot better now, slowly coming to terms about the way things have been and to a certain extent still are......but things are better than they were, so I hope that they will continue that way from now on.

There is also another job to be done on the car but once we get it back we can take it to the garage that have done all the repairs on all the family and some of our friends cars for the last 18 years.

Hope that you'll be able to find some pyjamas for Lilly. I know that the babies pyjamas I've seen in some of the children and baby clothes shops don't come cheap.

Bye for now, speak to you all soon.

Love, Sallie.xxx

Hi Everyone,

Mo, our car should be ready to pick up some time tomorrow, so up until now we are hoping to get the 11 O clock morning train from Derby to Leeds and then the local train from Leeds to Guisley. We will then have to get a taxi from Guisley station to the garage which is a few miles away.

Alun's sister is going away for a few days in the morning, so we won't be able to meet for some lunch as we had hoped......we had hoped that the car would have been ready to pick up today.

Ann, I have a few more cards for your blog, so as soon as Alun has taken photos of them I will send them to you.
We went to Derby this morning, and as usual I had to go into the craft shops and ended up buying more than I needed.... some Christmas stuff that I couldn't resist.lol!!

Huia, we did hear on one of our weather forecasts here about some parts of NZ having snow.

Tess hope you are okay, we haven't heard from you for a while. I hope the riots in Birmingham wasn't anywhere near you.

Betty, hope you are feeling better than you've been. Have you had the results of the colonoscopy yet? If you have, hope that everthing was alright.

Joyce rang me earlier on this evening, she was upset by the bad news on Deanna.
Jan is off from work for another week as he is suffering from gout.

Jean I hope things are all okay with you, Jeff and Debra.

Marie hope all is going according to plan with the family reunion.

Caz, I hope you are still managing to do your cards. Do you know when you are going to the Range with Carol? It will be a nice couple of hours out for you with someone with the same interest as yourself.

I hope Sylvia and OH will have a lovely week at the cabin with some good weather.

Liz, if you're looking in, I hear from Joyce that you still haven't received your birthday card from me. I can't understand why you haven't got it as it was posted the same time as I posted one to a friend of mine, and she's received hers. I'm sorry.

Well ladies, I'll say goodnight now, speak to you all soon.

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

Huia Report 16 Aug 2011 22:38

Good morning to Marie if she looks in and good evening to everybody else (Sylvia wont be looking in will she?).

Mo, I went through to Phils home yesterday as the woman in charge of his wing wanted to talk to me. She says the doc thinks he should be reassessed for a higher level of care - private hospital. Not that he is sick, but now that he doesnt try to walk around unaided, and doesnt get up in the night he doesnt need such intensive monitoring. He could go into the hospital wing of the place he is in or I could find a private hospital nearer to me, but where he is is only 20 mins extra drive from Papakura and I usually combine a visit with shopping anyway. I will miss the lovely carers in his current wing but I suppose they are just as lovely elsewhere. At least I hope they are.

I almost slipped over on our verandah this morning. I walked across it and when I turned to come back I realised it was very icy. I was 'frozen' to the spot for a while while I tried to decide what I was going to do. I finally managed to get back safely but it was a nerve-wracking moment or three for me. I wont be doing that in again in a hurry while this cold weather lasts.

Huia.
