Jean, so sorry to read that Jeff is so unwell. Have put a messabe on Caz's thread.

Keep up your vertige exercises. They seem to be helping you a lot.

Perhaps you can do them (or some of them) while you are at Jeff's bedside.
It would break up the monotony for you (and others on the ward).

Hi to everyone who is researching Somerset.
I found my Somerset Connection while researching my Welsh part of the family.
Previously to this I had thought that my Welsh lot were Welsh all the way through. However my great-great-grandmother came from East Quantoshead in West Somerset. As she was able to read and write, she has put East Quantoxhead on all her Census Records. It has made it a lot easier to research them.

Sallie, my Derbyshire lot originated in Herefordshire (Woodhouse family) they went to Staveley at first, and lived in Derbyshire for a few generations.

Even my connection to Argyll is via English ancestors from Herefordshire. My great-grandmother married a man from Argyll. After marriage they lived in Argyll and bought their children up there.

Have been able to visit Herefordshire, and seen some of the family places, churches etc.
Also visited Somerset last year. A beautiful place. I enjoyed using my free bus pass. Can see Wales from the place where great-great grandmother lived. I wonder if she looked across the sea as a little one and thought "one day I will go there"

Have seen some of the places in Ireland, but just wish that I had shown more interest in who lived in which house as a child.
Haven't managed to go to Argyll at all, perhaps one day.........

Tess you made me laugh, my exersises consit of liying on the bed both sides for 10mins each side and doing a routine, so I dont think they would let me do that in ICU....lol... but I will do them at home....

Jean, I can just imagine their faces if you asked "have you got a spare bed?"
However if you did manage to get one, I reckon that it would be in great demand. All the other visitors would want to use it ... Some of them might even copy you exercises.

You can start a new trend lol

Hello girls.
I am having problems getting onto the thread, so I just hope that this post sends properly.

I have had an E.Mail from Sallie, and she is unable to get onto the site.
Sallie would like me to send her love and best wishes to Jean and Jeff, and to Joyce.
Hopefully G.R will get this site sorted out soon.

Well here goes, I hope you get this message. Love Mo xxx

I was having trouble just now Mo as well, seems better now so maybe theyw ere doing something.

Jean you could always lay on the floor to do the exercises. People could step over you!!

Tess, many people moved from Somerset to Wales in the 19th century, was that when your ancestors moved? Mostly it was to find work. My Hampshire ancestors (well some of them) originated in Derbyshire and Staffs.

Hi all.

I picked up my new in-the-ear digital hearing aids on Wednesday. I am trying to get used to them. Today I went and visited Phil and the TV behind me was very loud. Usually it is so quiet I cant hear what is being said. Today I had trouble hearing what the carers said to me, although I did hear the squeaky hinges when somebody opened the dining room door.

When I got back to Papakura I parked near the telephone exchange and I noticed a loud humming noise. I dont know if it was from the exchange, or from a nearby transformer, or what. I could still hear it when I went into a shop further down the road, usually if I turned my head to left or right, or down. I could still hear it when I went round the block. I think I might be going back to the hearing people to ask about it on Monday if it is still bothering me. Also, when I went into the chemist shop there was a brrrrr noise as I entered and left. They have one of those 'gate' things that makes a noise if somebody goes out without paying for something. I tried putting my hands over my ears, but it made no difference, of course.

I hope I can get used to these aids. Otherwise I will want my money back!

Morning girls, I heard from Jean this morning that there is no change in Jeff, they have taken him off a couple of drips so far, he was on a lot. Jean is managing to get some sleep at last, it has been a worrying week for her.
Huia I would certainly go back to the hearing aid people, it would drive me nuts would that noise, mind you a lot of things do as I have very sensitive hearing.
I seem to have missed all the trouble on GR yesterday, I was on in the morning then again at teatime so it must have happened when I had my afternoon lie down.

Love Caz xx

My son rang up this evening. I put it on speakerphone and could hear him fine, but he said it sounded as if I was down a long echoing tunnel. I switched to the handpiece and I could barely hear him so went back to the speakerphone. I think either I am not using the aids properly or they are not working as they should. I will definitely go back on Monday. It means I wont visit Phil until Tuesday, probably as I am working in the hospice shop on Mon. afternoon.

Anninglos, yes, my ancestor was in Summerset for the 1841 Census but married in Llantrisant Glam. in 1846. She seems to be the only member of the family to move at that time. So I think of her as an intrepid young lady.
She was only 20 when she married, but claimed to be "of full age" No one in her family were signed witness's to the marriage.

Looking at later Census records, I notice quite a few people from Somerset, but again none of her close family as far as I am aware.
Her grandson (my grandfather) reversed the trend, moved to England and married my grandmother who was half Scottish and half English.
Looking at the Census records has shown me that people moved around far more than I had thought. And much greater distances too.

Have had a goodnday so far, managed to take a repeat prescription request to the GP this morning. (A one mile walk).
Then got a bus to my local shopping centre ... got four kitchen rolls for less tham £1.

Also had to get some mouse poisen, as saw an uninvited and unwelcome visitor in my kitchen.
As it isn't raining today, have put washing on the line.
Plus I have been doing some knitting!!! It is years since I did any, so I found a modicum of courage and am now knitting a ..........Scarf.
The instructions are knit one row, knit another row, carry on doing this till you nearly run out of wool. Cast off. The End.

I need to get back to doing my tree over the next couple of days, but will drop in here by-and-by.

Tess

P.S. GR have been giving me the run around today too. At least now I know that it isn't something that I have done.

Good evening girls.
My word Tess you've had a busy day love, I hope you haven't overdone it.
Take it easy tomorrow, relax and do a bit of knitting if you can,and catch up on your tree.
Are you using any special kind of wool for your scarf.
Our local Wil*inso*s had a special wool just for scarves, and I was sorely tempted to buy some last year, but as I has so many scarves changed my mind.
But thinking about it, I may buy some, and start to make some christmas presents for the grandchildren. That sounds like a good idea to me, why didn't I think of that before. lol

Huia, it will probably take you a while to get used to the hearing aids, but if they can adjust them slightly it would be easier for you.
Perhaps they have set the volume to loud, and you are not as hard of hearing as you thought.

I am starting a chain of love and thoughts for Our Jean and Jeff.

Tess, I thought those instructions for knitting a scarf were quite hilarious. Surely it would depend what size ball of wool you have? I can just see the scarf being about 12 inches long, or alternatively 6 ft long!

Mo, I think the woman said she would set it to a quiet setting to start. Anyway we will find out on Monday, if they can fit me in.

I must get a move on, finish looking at the boards and then take my recycling stuff to Hunua. It is a monthly thing, from 8.30 to 12.30. I didnt take anything last month so the plastic box is full to almost overflowing. And heaps of paper, and quite a few tins (mainly small cat food tins.).
