Hi girls, Sylvia, I didn't want OH's germs, but we believe in share and share alike. I just wish he would use paper tissues when he gets a cold, I hate having to wash his dirty sno**y hankies, yuk. I am cursing him at the moment, as I think a nose bag would come in handy, to stop me from having to keep wiping it. But in true woman fashion, I will survive, and carry on tending to his needs. LOL
I hope our Sallie is on the road to recovery, and that all that have been unwell, or suffering in any way, are improving.
Nothing exciting has been happening here i'm afraid, but I thought I would just pop in to say hello to you all.
Take care one and all. Love Mo xxx

Sorry you have a cold Mo. My OH insists on using proper hankies, although he will use tissues if he has a cold so that is progress I suppose.
My Mum used to soak Dad's hankies in salt water before washing them to get them clean and, I suppose disinfected.

Hi all
OH also insists on proper hankies all the time ........ but HE now does all the laundry, so I don't complain any more!
It's sunny here .... and OH is painting the kitchen.
I'm sure about the ceiling and wall colours ........... but not too sure about the cabinet doors. So he has been doing a bit of the cabinet frames and one cabinet door, and is promising not to moan too much if I change my mind!
J phoned this morning, a quick call because they had so much to do
Their kitchen china cupboard fell off the wall yesterday evening!
They were making dinner, and one of the cats had been at her water dish when it happened. The water dish ended up underneath the cabinet, but something made her flee ........... J&M didn't realise she had fled, thought she was trapped underneath the cupboard. They don't know where she hid, but it was several hours before they found sitting beside a chair in the living room!
J had been standing near the cupboard just a minute before.
Everything in the cupboard was smashed ..... fortunately, only "every day" crockery, not their very expensive wedding set. And part of it hit the cook island and has dented the wood top of that.
Seems the cupboard had been attached to the wall only by one screw, near the bottom.
They have gradually been finding that the renovations done by a previous owner about 4 or 5 years ago were not of the highest quality ..... now it seems some of them were downright shoddy!
Those owners sold after 9 months ................. probably what we call "reno flippers" here.
M and his father had been concerned about the attachments of the upper cabinets when they moved in in 2009 ...... and had given this one a particularly hard pull after being able to see only one screw. It had seemed very firm, so they just thought the other screws were hidden.
She says they are not going to put in a claim on their house insurance .......... the cost of replacing their everyday crockery will be less than the deductible.
MJ slept through the whole thing!
It certainly gave them a good fright!
take care everyone

Sylvia, I forgot to thank you for sending those photos. I must hunt out one of myself, but I do most of the photo-taking these days so dont have too many recent ones.
Today I spent my first regular Monday afternoon in the Hospice shop. I made a couple of errors with the till so if the books dont balance I will get the sack with no pay! (We arent paid anyway). Apart from that I quite enjoyed it.
The shop is having a St Pat's evening on the 17th, for volunteers. We have to wear green and take a green drink and green snacks, and bring a baby photo of ourselves (not nude!) and bring our sexy selves. There is going to be a prize for the sexiest. I am trying to think how I can make myself look sexy, but then thinking of the other women who work there, they are as old as me, so perhaps if I am clever I can win it. I might buy a green wig at the $2 shop. I wonder if I can get green lipstick, or wouldnt that be sexy? I dont normally wear lipstick. I did think of false eyelashes to flutter, but after the troubles I had with my eyes last year I wont risk it. If there are any men there I will have to go up to one and say 'begorrah, here is a fine handsome man, sure it must be the blessed St himself' as I flutter what eyelashes I have. Do you think that will be sexy enough? Any other ideas, ladies?
Huia.

Oh my god Sylvia, that cupboard falling like that, could have been a disaster if any member of the family had been closer to it. Thank the lord they weren't. The poor cat must have lost one of it's nine lives, from shock. Or it must have sensed the impending fall, and legged it out of the way, pretty darned quickly. I don't blame them for not making a claim on their insurance.
Huia, you must get someone to take a photo of you dressed up for St Patricks day. I wouldn't bother with the green lipstick, as you may end up with green teeth. And you don't need the false eyelashes, as if you flutter them to much, you may take flight. If you put food colouring in a cake mixture, that would do as your green snack. But what green drink is there, apart from limeade or green tea. On second thoughts, just go as your lovely self, and your bound to win their hearts over. I'm afraid I am not much help am I.
I have been a really busy bee today. I have taken all the big curtains down from the lounge and dining room, washed them, got them dried, ironed and put back up again. How's that for a poorly soldier who's suffering with a cold eh. Guess what Roly has done, yes, nothing. LOL but then he has got a cold.
I can now treat myself to a cup of tea, but I suppose I shall have to make the invalid one as well. I hope to be back later, but as I have got darts tonight, I may not have time, but I will try.
Sallie I hope you are feeling a little better today. Love to you all. Mo xxx

Hi Girls,
Just a quick look in, thank you all for your good wishes, they are much appreciated.
I'm feeling much better than I've felt over the last four or five days, thank goodness......going to see the doctor tonight at 7.00 p.m. to discuss the report that he received on my hearing test and also to make sure that this chest infection is at least better than it was.
Mo, you are going to be worn out doing all what you did today. I wish I had some of your energy. There are so many things that need doing here, but at the moment will have to wait, I'm afraid. Oh well, they'll get done one day!lolol!!!
Sylvia, thank goodness that no one was hurt when the cupboard fell down. I'm sure tha cat must have sensed that somrthing was going to happen so shot out of the way before it actually happened. I know that animals have much better hearing than we do.
It made me chuckle to hear that MJ slept right through it.lol!! Bless him.
Huia, you were probably a bit nervous with it being your first day back there, so it's easy to make a couple of mistakes then. I'm sure you'll be fine next week.
Hope you'll all have a good time on St Patricks Day, In a couple of places here, they sell cupcakes with green icing on for the 17th March. I just wondering do they do the same there.
Well I'll speak to you all later tonight, take care.
Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx
ps Mo, do you have a darts match tonight? Sorry, forgot to ask until now.

Yes we have got darts tonight, but not holding out for much success. We have got one of our bogey teams, one that we never have much luck with. But hey ho, it's a night out. I will just have to shove a hanky up my nose, to catch the drips. LOL
Catch you later honey. Love Mo xxx

Good luck with your darts MO. and I hope the doctor can confirm that your chest infection is on the mend, and that you get your hearing sorted.
Huia You could always take lettuce or a green apple or green grapes!!! Green hair would be a chuckle but green lipstick a no no. Maybe green nail varnish? Don't forget to get some photos.
We went on a lovely ride today across the Cotswolds via Stowe on the Wold to Batsford Arboretum where we spent two hours walking around the grounds. The snow drops were unfortunately just about over, the weather put us off going earlier. But the daffodils were lovely and the Hellebores were amazing. It was a beautiful sunny spring day and when we sat on a seat sheltered from the wind the sun was really warm. Tere is a large house in the grounds that once belonged to the father of the Mitford sisters and the butter yellow bricks looked beautiful in the sunshine. we really enjoyed it. We then went on to Evesham country park Garden centre where we had Senior Citizens' lunches. We both had beef strogonoff and they add vegetables to it as well, and then T had apple strudel and I had fruit crumble.

Thanks for the advice re green lipstick. I did have my doubts.
For the drink I will just take one of my water bottles (that is my main drink each day) which has a green jacket on it. For nibbles, I have some girl guide biscuits which have a trefoil on them and had thought of icing them green. Or I could make some of my melting moments and put them together with green icing.
I might try painting some clover leaves on the back of my hands or somewhere?
Nobody commented on my flirting with a man!!!

Huia, my Mum used to make Melting Moments, how do you make yours, I can't remember what recipe Mum used or what they looked like? I hope you will get some pics of your Green outfit lol I am sure it will do you good to play at being a Green Femme Fatale for the day - however you dress and behave, have a good time and don't stress about making errors at work, I am sure they will make allowances for you at first.
Ann, you were not so far from my Great Grandmother's birthplace, Gt. Tew. One of these days I will get up there and take a look round. A friend of mine is the daughter of Gordon Russell the furniture designer and there is a Museum at Broadway of his designs, in an old workshop of his. I never see anything of his on Antiques Roadshow but he made some lovely pieces - my friend has several items her late father designed and made.
Sallie, hope you get on ok at the docs and hope everyone is alright. I must get to bed in a mo, just got a fright when I heard the noise of a tractor - the farmer is ploughing up his field, just 30 feet or so from the back door at the end of the garden. All the blue tits flew up in alarm and the tractor was followed by flocks of gulls, that are having a great time on the newly ploughed earth. There has been a sharp frost outside, the grass is all silvery and crisp. Night all lol Lizx

Liz, probably about 20 miles from Gt Tew. Never actually been there but the countryside all round that area is very pretty.
Lovely morning here again. we have actually just cleaned all the windows inside and out so it must be spring. One of the jobs neither of us likes. Also done the household accounts and cleaned the bathroom, got the meal for this evening in the slow cooker and OH has washed both cars. So quite a productive morning. Hairdresser this afternoon.

Hi all
gosh Ann, you were busy this morning!!
It was raining here early this morning, but it has eased off. So I have made an appointment to get my hair cut early this afternoon.
I need a new passport, so OH took me to the photographers yesterday afternoon to get the new photos
uh oh
he wouldn't take the piccies
I was wearing an ivory-coloured sweater, a very pale ivory.
He said "white tops are not allowed. They will only refuse it. It's because we have to use a white or very pale background".
I knew we weren't to wear glasses, not smile or grimace, mouth closed, eyes open, looking to a point about 3' above the camera, not wear head coverings ................... but not about restrictions on colour of clothes.
Came home, checked the regulations and instructions on the application form.
NO mention of any colour restrictions :((
BUT ......... glasses can now be worn so long as the eyes are completely visible
Headgear cannot be worn, unless it is of a religious nature BUT in that case the full face must be visible ........... I guess some religions will still have a problem.
I thought this was good of Passport Canada though ................ Passport Canada is, however, lenient about the expression of a newborn (mouth open or smile).
ah well, will try again another day!
This morning, I was once again reminded why we do not live elsewhere in Canada
75 cm of snow fell in 24 hours on Monday in Sherbrooke, Quebec
That's 15" or so!
and they can blame the US, the storm came up from the south :))))
they usually blame us!!!!

Good evening girls.
I am wondering how Sallie got on at the doctors last night, as she hasn't been on here today. I hope she is o.k.
Ann, this fine weather has a lot to answer for hasn't it, making us do our spring cleaning a bit earlier than normal. The windows and nets do tend to look grubby when the sun shines dont they. But then, you have got both your holidays coming up, and have to fit these things in when you can. Just dont you both go overdoing things, you dont want to be to exhausted to enjoy yourselves.
Oh Sylvia, I had to laugh at your escapade over the passport photograph. A friend of mine, went to a photography studio with her husband to get his passport photo done. They filled the forms out, sent them of to the passport office, for them to be sent back again, saying that the background was to light. The photographers had actually advertised the fact that they did passport photo's,and had sold them as such. They went back and demanded the photo to be done again. The poor people of Quebec having to suffer 15inches of snow is snow joke is it. Mind you, you do get your fair share of it yourselves dont you.
Well, I hate to admit, I was right about the darts last night. We lost 5-1 in the team game, but we won the pairs 2-1. Now how daft is that, if we can beat them in the pairs, why oh why can't we win the sixes. I think we have got it into our brains that they are a better team than us, and the majority of us give up. Oh well never mind.
We have had a glorious day here again today, but it's going to be changing so the weather forecasters are saying. Lets just hope we don't get the snow that some folk are talking about.
I will say goodnight god bless you all, speak to you tomorrow. Love and best wishes Mo xxx

Hi Ladies,
Sorry I haven't got back to you before now, but with being poorly last week, I didn't do any cards, so over the last couple of days I've had to try and catch up with making them.
Hope you are all okay. Mo sorry your team lost on Monday, but as you said you didn't hold out much hope of winning. I hope you'll all have better luck next time you play against them.
I'm feeling much better, thank you. Thank you all for your concern and best wishes. I have to go and see a Specialist about my hearing problems, it's only to confirm what they thing it might be......the audiologist and the doctor think the problem is in the middle ear but the Specialist has to confirm it,
We're off to do the weekly shop now, so I'll pop back later on.
Love, Sallie.xxx

Hello girls. Sallie, have they said how long you will have to wait for your appointment with the Specialist. I hope it's not going to be to long a wait for you. Have you managed to get all your weekly shop done. Our will be bought on Friday, providing we are not in the middle of painting the kitchen. Now thats going to be interesting, as Roly has put the paint away in the shed at the moment. And I know what normally happens when things get put in the shed, yes, they stay there.
Talking of painting the kitchen, Sylvia, has your OH done yours yet. Has the snow cleared from Quebec yet.?
I wonder if Caz and Joyce are o.k, as we have not heard from them for a few days.
Today would have been my mums birthday, so I have had a few hours of quiet solitude remembering her.
I hope that all is well with you, and that all of you in the U.K have been enjoying the glorious weather.
I will say goodnight god bless you all. Love and best wishes Mo xxx
