Huia Report 4 Sep 2010 22:30

Hello girls.

We are a looooooooong way from Christchurch, didnt feel a thing. We are near Auckland. When we were touring the South Island about 30 yrs ago we were camped in Chch one night and in the morning when we were getting breakfast we felt an earthquake, nowhere near as big as the one they have just had, but it shook our campervan which was sitting on 3 legs. A couple sleeping in a pup tent didnt feel a thing. We have in the past felt several small earthquakes up here in the Hunua hills.

There are a couple of threads on Chat about the earthquake.

Huia. (off soon to visit Phil)

Sallie

Sallie Report 4 Sep 2010 23:01

Oh Huia, I'm so pleased to know that you didn't have the earthquake. I was fairly certain that you live in Aukland, but then I started to think that maybe I was wrong. What about your son and daughter-in-law? I know they live a good distance from you, but I can't remember where. I hope that they are okay where they live.

Hope you find that Phil is awake and alert when you visit him today.

Take care!

Mo and Jean, sorry I haven't been on here today, we're still having problems with the internet. So if I'm missing for a few days, it's because of this stupid internet.

Mo, have you got back to normal now? I should think that you're ready for a few days rest.
We had cheese and potato pie yesterday, it was a nice change.

Jean, how are you today? I'm wondering if you've made a start on your Christmas cards yet?

Well I hope to speak to you all tomorrow.

Take care everyone!

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

Huia Report 5 Sep 2010 06:10

Sallie, our son and d-i-l live in Rotorua which is a 3 hour drive from here. It takes much longer to drive down to Wellington then get the ferry across Cook Straight then drive down to Chch, so we are all well away.

Phil was rather sleepy when I visited today. They brought his lunch on a tray and he started feeding himself but kept dropping asleep and one time his hand finished up in his mashed food (no teeth). I gave up after an hour and came home. One of these days I will get organised to spend the whole day there. If he is asleep I will go out to our vehicle and read for a while then go back in to see if he is awake. It would be interesting to know what he does all the time.

Must get the fire lit now and then get my dinner.

Huia.

Mo in Kent Report 5 Sep 2010 17:39

Thank goodness you are safe and sound Huia. The trouble with us over here is, that we are geographically challenged, and don't exactly know the layout of NZ.
Now we more or less know the layout of this country, and whenever something happens here, we know roughly where it is, so please forgive our ignorance.
Ahh bless Phil falling asleep during his dinner. Boredom must have a lot to do with it, plus his medication.
It would be so nice for you to be able to spend a whole day with him. You could have a nap in your vehicle, if he dozes of to sleep.
Have you got rid of your mice yet. I meant to ask you before, but I kept forgetting.
And how is it going in the shop. Do they leave you to get on with it now, or are they still training you.

Jean of course you must go to D's graduation ceremony, if you feel up to it.
When we went to our daughters, we felt very emotional, but oh so proud.
It was just a shame that Dame Kelly Holmes, was given degree at the same ceremony. She had not worked for it, like all the other students.
I hope that J is well, also D.

Hi Sallie, yes we are back to normal now. I went up to the club with Roly today, for a game of darts. It was so nice to be able to relax, and not have to worry about getting home to prepare a meal for our grandaughter.
I have not heard a thing from her or my daughter since she went home.
I hope they sort your internet connection out soon, this has been going on for some time now hasn't it.

Well Debbie, have to children gone back to school yet, or is it this coming week they go back.
Some children from our area, went back last thursday and friday, but the rest start back tommorrow.
It must cost you a fortune in new school clothes. I know it cost enough when my five were at school, but the prices have risen so much.
It's o.k if the schools allow the uniforms that you can buy reasonably, at some local supermarkets.
But the expense come in when they have to have special gear for their sport.
I know that my youngest son had to have rugby shirts, which we bought, but he never ever wore the darn things. They were the reverseable colour ones, so that they could play their own school ,but be on different sides. You ony had to turn them inside out if you see what I mean.

I hope all is well with Liz, as we have not heard from her for a while.
Sylvia and Ann are both on holiday, so I hope they are enjoying themselves

Well girls I will away to the kitchen now, to put the kettle on. ( don't know if it will fit me though )
Love and best wishes to you all. Mo xxx

flights over were fine but it was a very long day and we wont be late to bed tonight. \we had a lovely meal waiting for us when we arrived but it was almost 1am before we got to bed.

Glad you are not in Christchurch Huia.

Huia Report 5 Sep 2010 21:29

Yes, Mo, I got rid of the mice (as far as I know anyway, but expect there will be more).

Liz sent me a PM yesterday. I think the wedding exhausted her mentally as well as physically. I feel like that sometimes, cant be bothered doing things. I have seen her on another thread.

Better go, my sister and her husband will be coming to visit today and I havent done the breakfast dishes and I have to sweep the floor. It is covered in rubbish which came off my clothes after a scramble up in our ceiling a couple of days ago.

Hi Everyone,

Just hoping that the internet won't go off before I get this message done and sent to you all.

Joyce, I know you won't be on here until you are better, but I really hope that the doctor will be able to diagnose what the problem is and will give you something so that you'll soon feel better. I'm thinking about you, we miss seeing your messages on here. Also hope all is well with Jan. I'll send you a pm over the next day or two. I know that you won't be on the computer until you are better, but can read it when you feel like it.

Mo, nice to hear that you and Roly are back to normal. I'm sure you enjoyed your game of darts at the pub yesterday.

When do you start playing the darts matches, again? It can't be too long now, if I remember rightly. Once the schools start back, all the other things start to get back to normal, too.

Have you heard how your nephew is lately? Just wondering how he's getting on, as we haven't heard anything about him for a while. I hope things are going along alright for him.

Jean, it will be great for you to go to D's graduation ceremony with J. You'll both feel so very proud of her. I know that you and J are already proud of
what she's achieved, but it will be the 'icing on the cake' , to see her in her cap and gown.

When do you and J go away again? I know you told us, but my memory is not as good as it was.lolol!!

Huia, did you enjoy your day with your visitors? I hope you managed to get the washing up done before they arrived.
I hope that Phil will be awake and more alert when you next visit him.

Marie, lovely to hear from you. I bet that you're really looking forward to your holiday in a couple of weeks time.

I'm feeling a lot better, but I still have a little bit of a down day now and again, although I seem to be able to get over it a lot easier now. So that's one good thing.

Debbie, hope things are all okay with you and your family. Do the children start back to school this week?

Liz, I hope that you are starting to feel better and that things have settled down after the wedding. Also hope that your OH is feeling better.

Ann, it's nice to know that you are having lovely weather in Tenerife, it's been pouring with rain here since about tea time. Typical, British weather.lol!

I hope that Sylvia and OH are enjoying a nice peaceful time at the cabin. Let's hope that the weather will be alright while they're there.

Speak to you all soon.

Hi Everone,

This is a very lonely thread. Where's everyone gone?

I've just been reading Yorkshire Caz's thread about Joyce. I really hope that she's going to be alright---just think that maybe the doctor should have sent her to hospital, so that they can find out what the problem really is.
Anyway Joyce, I hope that you'll be much better very soon.
Caz if you are reading this, thank you for letting us all know about her, as we all know that you are poorly yourself.

Mo, Jean and everyone else, I hope that you're all okay. I'll look in again later today, while the internet seems to be working.

Mo in Kent Report 7 Sep 2010 18:43

Hello girls.
Sallie I was shocked like you, to read about Joyce. If she had been in this country, Jan could have taken her to the hospital, and demanded that they
get her sorted out as soon as possible.
The poor woman has had so many problems recently, it just seems so unfair.

Well girls, I have had a bit of a bad day myself. I have had to have an emergency appointment with my doctor. She was not sure if I have had a
deep vein thrombosis. I was sent straight to a specialist unit, where they did a blood test, that came back negative. But as she is not certain, I have to go for a scan on my leg tommorrow. She thinks there may be a problem with the veins in my leg, as they are very varicosed. I also had to have an injection in my stomach, and have to have another one tommorrow. The injection is to thin the blood.
If it is a DVT, I will know tommorrow, and then have to have more injections,
and go onto Warfarin, which I do not reaaly want to do.
So I am sitting here with my legs elevated, and my lappy on my lap. Not a very comfortable way of typing I can assure you.
Roly has been very good, and cooked fish and chips for dinner, and is running around after me. Bless him.

Well ladies, I will speak to you tommorrow, after I have been for my scan.
Love to all. Mo xxx

Mo, so sorry to hear about your problem, at least they saw to you right away, unlike poor Joyce, she has always had trouble to get proper treatment, we wouldnt stand for it , she really does need some help and soon.... J and I will be praying all will be well for you and of course Joyce too...
but your Roly will look after you I know...

Sallie, D wont have a cap it seems they dont do it nowadays.at least O/U dont..
I have started the christmas cards, and managed about six so far, but I need a lot more..... I have been having a go at some unusual designs for a change,,I will take some pics and send them when I have a few more... we go away at he end of Oct to our usual place in Llandudno, so I can have a look at the craft store....lol...so praying for an indian summer....

Marie have a great holiday , it seems a very long journey from were you are, how long will it take to get to Italy?

Ann , I am sure the holiday you are having is all sunshine and balmy nights. enjoy yourselves...

Liz my love are you alright? we miss you, hope you have rested after the hectic wedding...

Hi Everyone,

Mo, sorry that you have had a bad day, but really hope that it will all be sorted out for you tomorrow. Good luck!

I read Daff's thread earlier on, she has to go into hospital tonight, instead of tomorrow morning. I hope that everything will go well for her, and that she'll be back on the threads soon.

I'm going to watch Holby City now, so will speak to you all tomorrow.

Huia Report 8 Sep 2010 08:17

Hello everybody.

I visited Phil this afternoon (for a change). He was much more alert. He was standing (sort of) with his hands still on the arms of the chair. I suggested we go for a walk, so I walked him to the opposite end of the room where there is an enclosed porch. He promptly sat down on the bench seat. I did suggest we could go for a walk in the garden but he seemed to think we would wreck it, must have taken 'in the garden' literally. I sat on the bench seat opposite so he could see me better as his distant vision is miles better than his close up vision. He was talking to me quite a bit, although I could not understand much of it. He also kept doing push ups, sitting and putting his hands each side of him and then half standing. I dont know if his situpon is sore from too much sittingupon or if he just likes to exercise his arms and possibly his legs.

I had an email yesterday from my 3rd cousin in England, giving some websites with newspaper articles about her 79 y.o. aunt who visited NZ last year. The articles were talking about her doing tandem skydives and abseiling down a building in Birmingham and she is going to do (or has done) another abseil in London and she will be on ITVs This Morning show. So if you hear the name Brenda Backhouse, that is my relly! She does these things to raise funds for Help for Heroes charity.

Huia, pleased to know that Phil was far more alert than he's been lately. Even though you couldn't understand all that he was saying, it must have been lovely to hear him speak.

I don't normally watch This Morning now, I got a bit fed up of it a while back. Although if I'd known about you relly, I would have had a look at it.

Mo, I hope all is going okay for you today, and that the doctors are able to sort you out. I'm off shopping in an hours time, so I'll look in to see if there is any news, when I get home.

I'll speak to you all later. Take care everyone !

Good news girls, it's not a DVT. Apparantly I have got a bakers cyst. When they did the scan, they said there are two cysts, behind my knee, and they are rubbing against each other.
I have got to make an appointment with my doctor, to get some pain killers, and then physio therapy.
I have googled what it is, as I thought they were kidding me when they said the name. But it is real lol.
I have not been home very long, so I am going to get something to eat now.
Love to you all. Mo xxx

Sallie Report 8 Sep 2010 21:26

Hi Everyone,

Mo, glad to hear that it isn't a deep vein thrombosis. I'm sure you feel much better for hearing that it isn't.

I know my mother had a bakers cyst when both my brother and I were small, and also a friend of ours living in Wales had one quite a few years ago. I can't remember what treatment my friend had, if any, because we had already moved here when she had it. The only thing I know, it's nothing to worry about.

We've been and done the shopping, a good job done for another week.
I wasn't sure what to buy, because Alun is on holiday next week, and are hoping to have a few days out', so I didn't want to buy too much fresh stuff, if we're not going to be here some of the time.

Jean, when I can get Alun to scan the cards for me, I'll send the pictures to you. I also promised to send them to Ann. I think I need to give him a kick up the ' you know where ' to get him to do it.lolol!!!

I didn't realise that they don't wear a cap for their Graduation Ceremony anymore---but it's about five years since I've known anyone who has graduated. I'm very behind the times.lol!

Glad to see that you have started your Christmas cards. I'm still plodding on with the cards for my brother's church. Since they told me that the next fair is in November, I thought that it would be a good idea to make some more for them.

Liz, I hope that you're feeling a bit better since the wedding is over. When do you and OH go away? If we don't hear from you before you go, I hope that you'll have a nice holiday.

Debbie, hope that everyone is alright with you and your family. Also hope that your dad is better than he's been lately.

Ann, I hope that you're having good weather in Tenerife and that both you and T are okay.

Marie, I know it won't be long now before your holiday. I hope that everything is okay with you and your family.

Joyce, I hope that the doctor will be able to sort your problem out and that you'll soon be much better. Glad that you had the package off me, it's awful that it took two weeks to get to you.

Thinking about both Huia and Sylvia. Take care!

Well Mo, I'm now going to have a nice cuppa.lol!

Take care everyone.

Hi
It is really hot here this week, and most of the time it is also sunny. Just back from our meal out, had omelette and chips tonight in a small Spanish bar with the most atrocious singer you have heard. But actually he was singing in the Canarian style which to our ears is really tuneless.
One thing about the heat is that it brings the midges out and I have been well bitten, not sure when but probably at night as we had our window open because of the heat, Boy do I itch!!!!

Mo, how are you today? I hope that you're okay and not having too much trouble with your leg.

Alun is off to the train club in about half an hour, so I'm going to try and make a couple of cards while he's there, but first I have to make a phone call to my mother's cousin.

Hope everything is alright with you all and your families.

Hello my darlinks.
I am feeling a lot better now thank you Sallie.
I phoned the doctors this morning, for an appointment, only to be told she was not in today, and that if I need to see her, to ring after 12 tommorrow.
It will give time for my results to get back to her I suppose. But these days, they send the results via the internet. It saves them getting lost in the post. LOL
At the moment, I don't feel like I need the painkillers, but who knows how I will feel when I get up tommorrow.
I wonder to myself, if the man doing the scan burst the cysts, when he was doing the scan,as he was pressing so hard on my leg. But that would not be my luck.

Ann, you lucky thing having lovely weather. But I don't envy you the midgies biting you.
Perhaps you should have a mosquito net over your bed to protect you of a night time.
Theres nothing worse than having to listen to someone singing, if they sound out of key. Even though I can't sing, I certainly know when a person is out of tune.
Enjoy yourselves, and have a tequila for us.

It looks like a quiet night for both of us tonight Sallie. With Alun being at his
train club, and Roly at darts. Some me time is lovely, to be able to watch whatever I want on the box, is luxury.
And to be able to be on the net, and not get moaned at. lol

I had a e.mail from Marie today, and she sends everyone her regards. Only one week two days before her holiday, and she is really looking forwards to it.

A big HELLO to Jean, Joyce,Huia, Debbie, Liz and all our friends.

This the grandaughter who had the cervical cancer. I am over the moon, I can tell you.
That means I will be a nan in January, and a great nan in May. Only four months between them.
