Hi All,

Mo, did you enjoy your game of darts last night? I hope you won! As I said last night, I'm no good at playing darts.
Well Mo, both Alun and I have now recovered from our day out on Saturday.
Jennie has the second lot of her new medication on Thursday - this time she will be given enough for four weeks. So crossing my fingers that she won't get a reaction, with it being double dosage this time.Please wish your grandson, good luck from me, with his exams .

Sue, yes it's nice to think that we were actually sitting in what was once Alun's gggrandparent's backyard - it was lovely sitting out underneath the umbrella, with a nice warm breeze, and knowing that we didn't have to rush. Everything seemed so carefree - a few tables away from us, two ladies sat knitting.
Pleased that you all enjoyed the BBQ! You said that both you and your friend need to try and lose some weight - join the club. The trouble is I am on tablets that I can't go without - one of the side-effects is weight gain or weight loss - of course I gain weight.

Jean, hope you and J are feeling better, and are having a good rest. It will be nice when you are able to go on holiday.

Debbie, hope all is well with you and your family - and that Matthew's foot is better.

Hello all Marie from OZ here, It sounds as if you are all Aok and things are going along nicely with exams ,sport ,darts.
I am pleasedthat J is recovering and I hope you are getting some rest Jean.

Nothing much is happening here its to cold to garden heavy frosts all this week. I have the knitting out. Abigail is 2on friday we are having a small party for her if she is better by then Emily and Abigail are both sick vomiting and diarrhoea I have been with them the past two days helping my daughter Barbara as she has study she must get done, lots of bugs going around.

Hello Marie. You dont get frosts in Oz, surely. We had a very heavy frost here this morning in our part of New Zealand, slightly 'north of the Bombay Hills.'

Hi Everyone, glad to hear that you are all well. Jean, I hope things are going ok with you & J. Sallie, I hope that Jennie's medication is doing the trick, certainly sounds as if it is. Good luck to her. As they say, "slow but sure" and her hospital are certainly taking the best care of her needs.

Isn't it gratifying to hear that they have frosts in Australia & New Zealand??!! Even though we know you do have winters and in fact there is quite a lot of snow in New Zealand, it isn't something we give much thought to when we are basking in wall-to-wall sunshine.

Mo, my Mum plays darts for the local W.I.and thoroughly enjoys herself. She isn't too bad either, which always surprises her grandchildren when they challenge her to a game.

Sallie, it must be lovely to meet up with relations like that. I am the only one in any of my family who is slightly interested in Family History so am on a single person crusade to get as much information out of people before they lose their memories completely.

My Dad was evacuated to Tillington, just outside Hereford during the war and loved his time there. We no longer have people there,but I think Mum & Dad have visited the area in recent years. It is a lovely part of the country.

We are all well here. Fully recovered from the weekend, and into the swing of things for this week. I've had a lovely walk again today. I walk to try and lose weight, but it doesn't seem to do much good. I am quite fit though, so even though I may need to drop a couple of sizes, I have a good walking pace and exercise one way or another every day for an hour or more. Makes me feel good.

The children are all fine, athletics, cricket, fit kids, tag rugby and brazillian soccer are the order for the week so plenty to keep me driving around for. I don't mind. Out for tea tonight with some of the mums from the boys' secondary school. Be nice to catch up without children/husbands in tow.

Marie, nice to hear from you! I hope the children will be better in time for Abigail's party on Friday. So, what are you knitting, Marie? I haven't done any for a good while - busy doing our family tree and doing a scrap book
for my late mother's first cousin. She will be eighty in November, and although she doesn't do any family history research herself, she enjoys hearing about what we have found. So, I am doing a scrapbook on our side of family history, to give her for her birthday.

Huia, hope you and hubby are both alright! I forget that it is winter in New Zealand and Austrailia, when it is our summer here in the UK. Raining here in Derbyshire at the moment, we have a few lovely days and then it's
back to being cloudy and wet. But it is still quite warm. Typical British summer.!

Debbie,thank you for your good wishes for Jennie! As you said, the hospital are taking good care of her - they have always looked after her very well.
One of Alun's gggrandfathers, George Goatman, was a hop farmer in Tillington, back in the 1870's, he lived in a place called The Lodge. His wife Ann, killed herself by drinking poison, in 1873. On Saturday, we found three columns written in the Herefordshire Times about what had happened. The proplem is we think that George changed his first name to James, at some time - we have found him on the 1881 census as James Goatman, with his and Ann's daughter Jessie, Alun's ggrandmother. He also has a wife Emma, and a son Felix. That's as far as we can get, don't know when and where George died.
Glad you all enjoyed your weekend! Lets hope we will have some good weather this weekend, as we have a few jobs to do outside.

Hello girls.
It was lovely to log on,and to hear from you all.
Marie,there is a lot of the sickness bug going around here,at the moment.
One of my very good friends,has had it since last Wednesday. She is in her late seventies. Her son phoned the doctors,and was told to feed her
boiled eggs,and for her to drink plenty of water. The problem is,when you have the [ backdoor trots ] putting it politely,and sickness you don't want to eat,for fear of it starting again. Poor Ann,is feeling so poorly,I feel her son should have the doctor out to her. She is afraid to go to the practise,in case she has an accident in the taxi.
I do hope your family start to feel better soon,in readiness for Abigail's party.
Hello Huia. Sorry you have bad weather. ours is glorious at the moment.
[ I am not rubbing it in by the way ] but knowing our luck,it wont last.
I hope you and your OH are o.k.
I wish your mum was nearer to me, Debbie,we could do with more players
for our dart's team. I was really cheesed of on monday night, I was ready to go to my match,and decided to txt my skipper to make sure the game was still on. only to be told that she was only entering one team,for the three's knockout's,and I was not included. Well I was spitting feathers,I am seriously considering joining another team,as I don't like being messed about like that.
The reason she only entered the one team,I found out later,was that she had visitors over from Germany,and could not be bothered to turn out herself.
Enough of my moans.
Sallie,good to hear from you. I can't believe you have got rain.
It is good news about your daughter,I hope she continues to improve.

When we set out for our walk the other day it was sunny but it started to rain on us after about 2 hours. Luckily we had our raincoats (dont go far without them ever) and it wasnt much anyway and we were almost finished the walk.

It is a beautiful sunny morning now, albeit a bit cool, though no frost up here. I suppose I should do the washing. My OH tends to put on whatever comes to hand each morning and I have to wash everything that isnt in a drawer.

Debbie, I used to go 'tramping' (hiking, walking) all day years ago but never lost weight. I think the problem was that I would have 'emergency' rations in my pack and when we got safely back home I would think I had been working hard all day so needed some sustenance, so would eat the extras I had packed. And more.

Better do the washing now, so it will be at least partly dry before the rain comes or the sun goes down.

Huia, I haven't heard the word "tramping" for a long time. I have a cousin who used to live in NZ and she "tramped" everywhere. She has lived all over the world, particularly enjoying it out your way - NZ, Oz and a couple of years in Vanuatu. She is now on a 2 year contract in Malawi, so certainly sees a lot of the world.

Good to hear from Mo that Jean & J are plodding along nicely, and that they are receiving the correct care.

Sallie, how is Jennie? I think it is today she starts her new treatment isn't it? Thinking of her :-)) Isn't it strange that your family have a connection with Tilington. My dad stayed there with family during the war, and never went back to live in London. Eventually the family moved to Reading.

Marie, I hope Abigail is feeling a lot better. Nothing worse than a bug like that with small children. You never know what is going to happen next and it can leave them feeling so weak. Happy 2nd Birthday to her for tomorrow. I wonder how much you have managed to knit?

As usual, all well here. Been for my regular Thursday walk. We went through a valley so it was very up and down and quite a lot of steps, so my calves are feeling the strain now. Have signed up for organised walks on Thursdays starting Sept, as part of the Adult Education classes. I used to do them but missed out on enrollment last year. Hopefully I have got my form in early enough this time.

Parents' evening today so we will have a chance to find out how the 2 at secondary school have been doing!!!!!

Hi All,
Debbie, yes Jennie has had her second lot of treatment today. I'm still waiting to hear from her - she's supposed to have enough medication today to last four weeks , double the dose from two weeks ago - so hoping she's okay.
Most of Alun's ancestors come from all over Herefordshire, the trouble is
his grandmother would never talk about her Goatman's side of the family.
After finding the information on George and Ann, we think it was something to do with those!
Good luck with parents evening - I'm sure you will have good results about your two eldest.

Marie, hope Emily and Abigail are better totay - and that Abigail will be able to have her birthday party.

Jean, I hope J is now on his new anti-biotics, and is feeling better. Also hope that your legs are better, and not giving you any trouble!

Oh Huia,I had to giggle at your emergency rations. I would be the same as
you,but the food would never make it back home,it would be gone before I got back. Greedy old me.
Two hours walking Huia,arn't you good. Thank goodness you got in before the rain started. If it had been a heavy shower,you could have taken the washing outside and done it in the rain water.
I hope parents evening went well Debbie. And I hope the muscles have eased of a little.
What with you and Huia doing all this excercise,it makes me feel guilty at
being a bit of a couch potato.
Have you heard from Jennie yet Sallie? I hope she got on o.k.
We had nice weather first thing this morning Sallie,but this afternoon it really clouded over. But I managed to get two lines of washing dry.
I have to take Roly to see the eye specialist,tommorrow morning.
He is feeling a bit low again today. His back's playing him up again.
I feel sometimes,that I would like to put him in a sack,and shake him up a bit.
We hope to go down to Margate,on Saturday,as they have got an airshow
on for the weekend. That should cheer him indoors up a bit.
We normally go to the Biggin Hill Airshow every year,but the prices have risen so much,that we have decided to give it a miss this year. And as Margates is free,it sounds more enticing.

Hi All,

Thank you for aking Mo. Jennie is fine after her second lot of medication.
She had the same monitoring, as she did the last last time - they look after her well - two hours while she's on the drip and for the next two hours. Of course, a lot of the staff know her now, seeing that she has been back and fore the hospital for over five years. She had to ring at
8-30 a.m. to let them know that she was able to keep her appointment, and they asked her what she wanted in her sandwiches for lunch, and if she wanted white or brown bread. Jennie says the sandwiches are really lovely - much better than when she's been on the wards.

I hope Roly will get on alright at the eye specialist, tomorrow morning. You can understand him feeling a bit down, what, with back problems and trouble with his eyes.
I hope you will enjoy the airshow on Saturday, Mo - hope the weather will be nice for you.

Jean, how are things in your family? I'm sure that I read on one of the threads that J is 75 today! Please wish him a belated Happy Birthday from me! Anyway, I hope you've both had a lovely day.

I too love walking and shall be off walking in the morning Sat. here in OZ.

Mo dont be too hard on Roly its scary when your eyes start to fail.
Sue Sallie and Debbie you are always so Busy I do remember what it was like having to be the Taxi all the time, it was a good time with the children and I especially loved the sports with them.
Now the knitting I was busy at it when the phone rang and Barbara needed help so all this week I have been helping with the sick little ones so i havent finished the cardigan for Emily maybe next week.I'm too tired at night to do it then.

I have gone back to the Gym as I am 4kgs overweight and I feel uncomfortable so I am back on a smaller serves diet, walking and exercise. I hope it works.

Hello girls.
Well,we went to see the specialist,about Roly's eye. He is going to have the cattaract removed,on the seventh of july. The specialist said it would even,the balance in his eyes,as he had a cattaract removed in his other eye,not to long ago. And as he has trouble when trying to read,it will help
him no end.
He has the physiotherapist on the 2nd of july,and then his eye done on the 7th. What a month it's going to be,but I would sooner get him
right than have it prolonged. He seems a lot more like his old self today,
thank the lord.

I hope all the little ones are better now,and that Abigale enjoys her party on
Sunday. Are you going along,to enjoy the happy time.?
There are quite a few Darts teams,local to me that I could join. I am good friends with a lot of the ladies teams around here.

It's me again sorry.
I have spoken to Jean. And she would like me to explain to you why we have not heard from her,very much lately.
As you all know,Jeans OH,had his operation not to long ago. And a few complications arose,from the wound not healing as it should. He has now got antibiotics,that are clearing up the problem,and he is feeling a lot better.
So much so,he would like to take up his driving again.
But, poor Jean has been feeling the strain of it all. And has been feeling a bit under the weather,with all the worry she has had.
So when she is feeling better in her self,she will be back with us on this thread. I hope I have explained the situation properly to you all. Mo xxx

Sorry I have not been around for the last two days,girls.
We went to the airshow yesterday. We arrived at 11a.m,only to find out that the display would not be starting till,3.30p.m. So we looked around the display stalls,but still had hours to kill. We were so dissappointed,a very poor show really. So we wont be going there again,in a hurry.
Tonight our daughter took us out to dinner,along with our 17 year old grandaughter. It was a lovely meal,so now I am absolutely stuffed.

Hello everyone , at last J has got the new antibiotics, we are relieved as the infection has gone worse,but at least we are hoping this will do the trick.... I am grateful to my friend Mo for keeping you informed , still feel a bit off, but sure to bounce back soon....

I have read all your adds and seems you have been very busy folk, good to hear from Marie again... and all the youngsters seem to be having a great time,
