Hi Mo
xxx

I too wondered about the icing ........... until I re-read what I had written

DOH!!!

I think I just pulled the muscle that goes to the back of the knee, to the left side of centre. Rest and ice packs (!!) are definitely helping.

Oh goes away overnight tomorrow, so I'll have 2 days of more rest.

We're having some lovely weather ............ mainly sunny, and about 15-18C.

Just had a thought last night .................. have either of you two lovely ladies ever heard about a guy called Noel Bowden??? He lived in Auckland, died last year, but used to be a big name in the Rugby world.

His wife died in a very tragic accident in 1992 ................. she was visiting her daughter and the car rolled off a steep road up to the farm. Mum was killed and daughter seriously injured. Noel still met me at the airport and put me up for 2 or 3 days (along with OH and daughter) about 1 week later.

He was a lovely lovely man!

Hi Girls,

Mo, I must have been having one of my senior moments, when I read your post. I'm so pleased that your team won on Monday night, and I'm sure that you will also win the next match. It's been a bit cold here, this week---we are hoping it will be at least dry for my cousin's funeral tomorrow. I hate travelling on the motorway when it's raining, but will have to take what comes.

Huia, hope the winds have died down now, and that your chimney is still in one piece. I'm always frightened when we get high winds, they can do so much damage, and cost so much to put things right. Have you been Phil over the last few days? I hope that he was awake while you were there.

Marie, like you I sometimes start a job, then get distracted, and forget to finish the job I had already started. It's nice to know that there are a lot of the same. You are kept very busy with the family, it's nice that you are able to help your daughter by being there to look after the children, when she's so busy with her University work. Please wish her all the best, from me.

Sylvia, I hope your leg is feeling a bit less painful than it's been. It looks as though my brother will be having an operation on his foot next week, at the moment he's having to wear an orthopaedic boot, because the specialist told him on Monday, that he thinks that the achilles tendon will snap, before the operation.

Thinking about Jean, Debbie, Ann, and Liz.

Love and best wishes. Sallie xxx

Hello girls I am back to pester you again.
Sylvia the ex rugby players name does not ring a bell. But what a tragedy,
losing his family like that.
Now had he been a darts player,I would probably have known off him. I am not really into many sports unfortunately.
How the heck are you going to get some rest,if your OH is away overnight.
I hope you will have someone popping in to make your meal, and drinks,
so that you can sit yourself down, and do nothing.

Sallie my thoughts will be with you both tommorrow. Have a safe journey.
Is it your brother who is the vicar, who is having the operation on his foot.
How did Jennie get on at the hospital.

Huia Report 12 May 2010 21:26

Hi, Sylvia. I cant say the name Noel Bowden means anything to me, but then I am not your typical Kiwi mad on footy, although some names of some players I am familiar with because they come up so much on TV. I am glad I dont live in Auckland and rarely need to go there, with the world cup coming up it will be a very good place to avoid.

Sallie, I visited Phil yesterday. He had his head down, although he seemed to be half awake. I am wondering if all the scratching he has been doing is because of scabies. I did mention it to the nurse/carer a week or so ago but she hastily said that if they think somebody has it they treat it straight away, but son and his wife caught it from her mother who is in a rest home in Rotorua. I think I might have it too, I am scratching so much. I had thought I had picked up a flea somewhere, but it has gone on for some time now, so I am going to see if I can get an appointment with the doc today or tomorrow.

Roof is still on, wind has calmed down although I think more bad weather was predicted for later today (hope not).

Mo, the Ozzies do get snow in the Snowy Mountains, but I would imagine it would not snow elsewhere. Not that I have visited Oz. We get snow, but rarely up here in the Hunua Hills or Waitakere Ranges, and it doesnt sit long when we do get it up here. South of Taupo would be the best places for snow.

Must go, want to phone the surgery soon.

Huia.

I hope you can get your appointment with the doc Huia. Scabies can be very rife in nursing homes. I know as my mum caught it in the home she was in. The nursing staff, did not believe us when we said mum had it,but when we asked the doc to visit mum,he went mad,as the staff should have picked it up before we noticed it.

Sallie Report 12 May 2010 21:55

Mo, yes it is my brother who's a vicar that's having an operation next week.
Originally, he was to have had the operation in about six months time, but he's had so much trouble with both his heels, having one infection after another, that the Specialist decided that he will have to have the left foot done next week and the right foot in six months time. He also told my brother that he will have to book twelve months off work. So I don't know how that has gone down with his boss, the Dean.

Jennie got on okay at the hospital today, thanks for asking. Everything seems to be going along alright, apart from her lack of vitamin D, but I know they look after her really well, and will do their best to get it sorted.

Also thank you for your good wishes for tomorrow. It will be nice when the funeral is over. If you hear of two people from Derbyshire, lost in Bristol, you'll know it's us. As a family, we've always found it difficult to find our way round Bristol. Alun and I never have any trouble finding our way around London in the car, but Bristol and Manchester is another story.

Well, I'm going to have a shower now and I think an early night is called for.

Speak to you all tomorrow night.

AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH! Sorry for screaming, but I am so cross. I tried to make an appointment, rang 3 or 4 times and got through but the woman the other end could not hear me and said I must have hung up. I tried a neighbour and the same happened. I tried my sister and her OH twice and again I could hear them but they couldnt hear me. I will have to drive 3 or 4 km down the road with my cell phone to ring doc and faults. I will be lucky if I get an appointment tomorrow. I just hope I dont go crackers (more so than I am now) with the itching tonight. It seems worse when I am in bed.

Hi all,

Sallie, I hope the drive isn't too awful and the funeral goes as well as these things can. Will be thinking about you.

Huia, I do hope you can get an appointment, and if it is scabies that the home react properly, it's not nice for poor Phil to be scratching. Did you notice if any of the other residents were scratching too?
I had scables when I first moved to Cambridge, I think I must have caught it in my bedsit. It always seemed worse when I got warmer, so I suppose that's why you itch more in bed, and maybe Phil is tired if he is the same, the itching keeps waking him up, bless him.
Is there anything you can do to make communication easier, it worries me that your phone doesn't work properly presumably due to bad signals, because if something happened and you needed to get help, how would you do it? Sorry I don't mean to talk things up but is there another way you could contact anyone if necessary without having to drive miles to do so.
I am glad you finished the memory book Jean, you make people very happy with your craft work. How I wish I could do some but nowhere to do it here, I would have to be clearing up after a short time and it wouldn't be worth the effort. I shall hunt out my needles and such soon and do some baby knitting, that might help my creative urges a tiny bit. Or maybe make something else for the baby, that is small enough to work on without much hassle.

Catch you all tomorrow evening,
love to all and take care

Huia Report 13 May 2010 05:26

I made the appointment, went to the doc. She was not sure if it was scabies as she couldnt see any of the tunnels they make, but she prescribed some malathion liquid which I have to put all over myself, and again in a week. I also have to wash the bedding in hot water. I might have to get a man from down the road to apply the malathion to my back since I cant reach all of it! No, I might find a way of applying it myself. I also have antihistamine tabs and hydrocortisone cream.

When I got home I phoned the telecom faults number on my cordless phone and got through and she could hear me. She suggested unplugging various things and just having the cordless phone plugged in. That worked ok so next I unplugged it and plugged the old corded phone in. I could hear her but she couldnt hear me, so it is obviously the old phone. I will go to town again tomorrow to look at new phones. A friend says there was thunder last night, which she thought was in my direction (I didnt hear it) so that might have ruined my phone. I dont understand though why I can ring people and hear them when they cant hear me. Ah well, at least I can still use the cordless, and hopefully a new phone will work. I want one that can have the volume a bit louder, or one that I can use with a hearing aid as I have trouble hearing on the phone. Caller ID would also be nice, but I am not sure what it would cost.

We had a good journey there and back, no rain thank goodness. I'm really tired tonight, so I'll speak to you all tomorrow. Thank you all again for your thoughts over the last couple of days!

Hope everyone is alright. Take care!

Huia Report 14 May 2010 00:34

Mo, it was a small cordless phone that I bought earlier this year, but I felt I needed something better. I have bought another cordless, but it is supposed to be good for the hearing-impaired. It is now being charged up. I was told not to connect it to the jackpoint until it is fully charged, otherwise if it rings and I pick it up it wont charge fully each time, so I have plugged it in to a power point in the spare bedroom.

When I got home half an hour ago I smothered myself in the malathion liquid the doc prescribed. It is supposedly perfumed, but I can still smell the malathion. I have to leave it on until tomorrow, re-applying to my hands if I wash them. Tomorrow I can wash it all off and do another application in a week. I hope it does the trick. Of course if it turns out to be shingles or some other thing then it will be 'back to the drawing board. But I understood that shingles was painful, and this is more of a very annoying itch than painful, so I just hope I am not the exception to that 'rule'.

Hello tp you all,Huia, if it was shingles you would be in a lot of Pain as I have had shingles under my foot and on my ankle It comes up like small blisters and feels like some one is poking you with red hot needles, not nice at all. I do hope the Malathion works.
Mo ,we do get snow here, we are on the Central Tablelands, and we often get Flurries of Snow in winter Orange 50mins further west of us,it actually stays on the ground when they get it, we had Snow last winter it was still on the ground and on the roofs of the houses when we got up. When I lived in Armidale we were actualy snowed in for 2 days I was at work when it started to come down, I had a terrible time trying to get the car home it kept sliding around the road.

I am extremely tired friends it has been a big week for me .I will say good night I have read the last few pages, but I must go to bed
Love to you all

I could have sworn that I said good morning, rise and shine all you sluggards, about 4 hours ago. I wonder where it has gone. Here I am at 1.13 a.m. sitting topless as I woke up feeling hot and itchy. Every time I put ointment on one itch another one starts up.

Son had intended to come up for the weekend but now he has started getting a cold and when I told him I possibly have scabies he said he didnt want to get that again, thank you very much, so he wont come up this weekend. I might just pop in briefly to visit Phil on Sunday but wont touch him in case he re-infects me. I will talk to whoever is in charge and ask if he has been seen by a doc about his itching, and treated for it, and tell them I am being treated for it.

Hello Girls,

Huia, I think it's a good idea to speak to whoever is in charge at the home. I certainly hope that they have had a doctor to see Phil, and given him somrthing for it by now.

Marie, hope you'll feel a lot better after a good nights sleep. Weather is quite nice here today, I've actually managed to dry a line full of washing--the trouble is it's now got to be ironed, a job I hate.

I'm going out soon, so I'll look in again later.

Hello everyone.
Huia, has the phone charged up yet. And have you tested it,to be sure that you can hear properly with it. Or more to the point, that others can hear you.
Has that itch stopped yet. Did you ask the staff, where Phil is
if the doctor has checked Phil over, to see if he has caught it from there.
Obviously they don't check their patients very well,if Phil has had it,or they would have noticed it before now.
And if he has had it,why did they not warn you of it. It's a bit naughty if they knew, and didn't tell you.
What a shame you wont see your son this weekend. But it's best to be safe than sorry.

Marie, take some you time this weekend. You sound exhausted love.
Thank you for confirming about the snow over there.
Speak to you when you are more relaxed. Get some rest now please.

Sallie, get that iron out and finish the job properly,if you don't mind. LOL
I bet you are out shopping at the moment. And I wonder girls will she be in the craft shop. Poor Alun,I bet he dreads going there, the old pound signs will be flashing in front off his eyes. Never mind, our Sallie is not daft, I bet she will take him to the place that has the model train bits in it.
That way for every pound he spends,I say Sallie should be able to spend double. LOL

I hope Liz is o.k,she is very quiet today. Lizzzzzzzz where are you.

I have just had a thought,it's nearly the weekend, and poor Jean and J,must be dreading it because off her next door.
Jean how did J get on at the hospital. I am sure you said he had to go earlier in the week.

I wonder how our wounded soldier,Sylvia is today.

It seems ages ago that we last spoke to Debbie. I hope that everyone is well at her house.

Cooeee Ann,I hope you are still enjoying yourself. Is your weather still good over there.

Hi Mo

here I am ......... and feeling so much better that I am actually considering going out to the local mall!

Before we left NS the other week, J asked me to buy a pair or two of little trousers for MJ from a store in that mall. We both like the material and styles they carry ............. and the fact that most of their trousers have crotch openings. She got many (10? 15?) pairs of trousers and shorts at that Shower last month ......... not one pair had crotch openings so have to be taken on and off at change time.

I'd bought MJ a pair of denim overalls from there that she just loves, and finds he is comfortable in them while she finds them easy at change time.

They are a small chain called Please Mum! ............... and the nice thing is that they are always having sales!!!!

The weather is lovely here ............. blue sky, sun, going to get to around 20C today, a little cooler tomorrow. The really nice thing about this time of year is that it is warm enough to go out in short sleeves in the daytime, but the nights are cool at about 10C or below ............. so it is very pleasnat for sleeping! When it starts getting to 18 or 20C or higher at night, we have to pull out the fans to try to keep the bedroom cool enough. At 25C we start using fans in the living areas!

As you may gather, we don't have air conditioning!!! It really didn't use to be a problem, but we have noticed that there have been more hot days in summer over the last 2 or 3 years than there used to be. And I am pretty certain that it is not just me getting older and with less internal temperature control.

OH phoned from Calgary last night ...... said he had a huge room at the hotel!

off for a mooch
