Sallie Report 3 Mar 2010 22:24

Hi Everyone,

Late looking on today, I've been fairly busy today, doing a couple of odd jobs, then went and did the weekly shop when Alun got home. Tonight my sister-in-law phoned to say that my brother is in hospital, he's had to have emergency surgery on his knee, the doctors weren't sure what was wrong, he was in terrible pain and his knee was very swollen, so they decided this evening to take him to theatre.

Jean, hope you and J had a lovely day. Enjoy yourself tomorrow night when you go out with your friends.

Julia, pleased that you finished your jacket without having to buy more wool, I looked at the pattern on the wbsite, it looks lovely but a bit too complicated for me. Have you been to the Bottle Kiln-- you'll have to let me know what it's like there--we always like to take Alun's sister and brother-in-law somewhere nice for a meal when they come to visit us.

Marie, it was nice to know that all your results are all cancer clear. Wonderful news!

Debbie, sorry to hear the news about your father-in-law, it's awful when it comes to this stage. I'll be thinking about you and your over this trying time.

Liz, great to know that things went well for you on Monday. It's good that you liked the cousellor and feel at ease with her. Things can only get better !

Sylvia, I hope you are feeling much better now, and are able to go out and about again. It must seem so much quieter in Vancouver, now that the Winter Olympics have finished.

Mo, Jennie is okay thank you, apart from a cold, so if it continues she won't be able to have her injection on Friday, so we hope it will have gone by then. The model railwy show went well on Sunday, both Alun and Michael said there were lots of people there, they started queuing outside about half an hour before the doors were open. One of the club members phoned Alun last night to let him know that they had made a good bit of money. So they're all happy about that!
Richard, has to go for an interview on Friday for an admin job, so we hope he'll be lucky.

Huia, sorry to hear about Phil, it must be so difficult for you to see him as he is. I really feel for you! As you say he's not the Phil that you have known over the years. I'll be thinking about you!

Hello to Ann and Marilyn, hope is all well with you both.

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

I had a phone call from Phils hospital just over 2 hours ago to say he had rolled out of bed again at 1.30 am. No serious injuries. He had been walking around and had had breakfast this morning before they phoned.

Huia.

Lordy Huia!

Glad to hear that he wasn't hurt.

Don't they put rails around beds these days?

I had bed rails when I was in hospital for an operation in 1995 ................ they were raised every night for about 4 nights, or until I came off the very strong painkillers.

Huia Report 4 Mar 2010 01:48

This is a dementia hospital, Sylvia. He would probably hurt himself more if he tried to climb over the rails in the night. He does have the tendency to wake up at all sorts of hours and get up. When he was at home last year he would often make his breakfast in the wee small hours as he had no idea what the time was, but because he had woken he thought it was morning.

They have lowered his bed so it is not too far to fall. I gather it is a rule to let us know when our loved one has a fall, even if there is no real injury.

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 4 Mar 2010 02:03

Huia, I am sorry to hear Phil had another tumble and hope he is ok, I assume from him still managing to walk albeit a shuffle, his pelvis has healed well enough? It must be very sad to see him so thin and going downhill so quickly now, he did seem to pick up a bit a while back but I suppose the lack of exercise has left his muscles wasting away now, doesn't that happen after a lot of use and then not a lot with muscles?
Bless him, hope he can remain comfortable and safe.

Debbie, sorry to read of your poor f.i.l. too. I was very lucky that neither of my parents suffered with Alzheimers, it was hard enough seeing my Dad hallucinating and rambling when on morphine at the end of his fight against Lung cancer, and I don't know how we would have coped if Mum had developed it, I would have had to move in with her and that would have been hard with a young son, my brothers wouldn't have helped I know.
It's a cruel illness that causes a long goodbye and I can only be grateful I didn't have to cope with it, and hope I don't develop it either.

Maria, glad you have the all clear, what a relief.

Jean, so happy you enjoyed your Anniversary and got such a good pressie lol

to everyone else, apologies that I can't do any more messages, am quite tired and having a taxing time with the o.h. at the mo, who does not seem keen to cycle to work again much as he needs to for health reasons, he is now saying if he leaves me the car I have to have used it! I don't want to be under that pressure, it was always here before he stopped cycling due to the cold weather and I coped with it as I wasn't feeling up to driving when I had the bang on the head, but I told him I don't know the day before whether I will feel well enough to go out, much less drive, due to the fm etc
Yet another thing to make life more awkward and pressured, he just can't stop being a pig!

take care all

Hi All, what a mixed bunch we are on here at the moment. Thanks for the kind words about my F-in-L, no news at all so hubby will go and visit in a day or so. Huia, I know exactly what you mean when you say that you hope "it won't be long", we feel the same way in our situation. Every visiting time we will now treat as our last. Yes, we have told the children and they have been very good, asking some vey sensible questions and not making the situation into a silly affair. We have always been very honest and open with the children, and found it helps so much when we do have a situation like this or when my Dad was so very ill last year.

I wasn't being cheeky when I called Jean & Mo "characters", as they will know. We are all characters in our own right - just that some have more character than others :-)))

I've been out with my walking group today. It is blowing a gale here and we went on a cliff path, so were rather battered around by the elements. Our leader managed to get us a guided trip through a working farm, that was very interesting. We actually cut through all the fiields to pick up our original path. It was a very pleasant detour.

I hope that this finds you all as well as you can be. I'll be thinking of you all and will pop back onto here when I can. My mums birthday tomorrow so I will go and see her in the morning. Then the weekend sees me at various sporting events, so I may not be here till Monday. If that is the case, then I wish you all a very good weekend.

Take Care.

Hi Everyone,

Huia, really sorry to hear that Phil has fallen out of bed again. Hope he's alright, and able to still shuffle about.

Debbie, it looks as though you have a very busy few days ahead of you. Please wish your Mum a Happy Birthday from me, and hope that she enjoys her day.

Liz, sorry to hear that you are having a trying time with your OH. It looks as though sometimes he enjoys causing you problems. You never know, he might see how stubborn he is, and change his miind about having the car.

Jean, hoping both you and J will have a lovely time out with your friends tonight. I bet you cant wait to see their faces when you give them their presents.

Mo, hope all is well with you and Roly. It's quite a nice day here again today, although I think it's a bit colder than it was yesterday. At least it 's dry and bright.

Julia, how are things with you? Have you started knitting something else, now that you have finished your jacket? Sorry, all questions!

Sylvia, how is the weather in Vancouver? If it's anything like our weather in the UK, it at least makes us feel that spring is on the way.

Hello to Ann, Marie and Marilyn.

Speak to you all later.

Love and best wishes. Sallie.xxx

Jean, sorry I thought you were going out tonight. So pleased to hear that they loved the album and the photo--but I guessed they would. I bet they'll now be showing it off to their family and friends--so you should feel very proud of yourself.

Ann, have a lovely weekend at your daughter's, hope the weather will stay dry and bright for you. Please wish your grandson a very Happy 18th Birthday, and that he'll enjoy the day. Also hope that you'll all enjoy your meal out on Saturday.

Hello my friends, good to hear from you all.
Oh Huia my love,I am so sorry to hear about Phil. Thats the problem when we don't use our muscles very much, they go into a rapid decline. Obviously poor Phil is not getting the exercise that his body was once used to.
It must be so hard for you to see him like this. But the love for the man he once was, will never die.
Phil seems to have a liking for the floor, doesn't he. I think it's time they put his mattress down there,so he cannot fall out again. Bless him,he must be so confused when it happens.
Sallie,I hope your brother is coping with his bad knee. What did they actually do to him when they operated on him.
It's good to hear Alun enjoyed the railway show. Bet it was cold for then queuing outside though.
I will keep my fingers crossed for Richards interview tommorrow. God willing he will be successful.
Liz,you let Mr Miserable think you are using the car, even if you don't. Whats he going to do,look at the mileometer,to see if the mileage has changed,
miserable old devil. He's just being a lazy swine, not wanting to use his bike.
Debbie, you are so lucky to have such sensible children. I do believe it's better to be honest with them,so that they understand what is happening
within the family.
Please wish your mum a very happy birthday.
Enjoy your weekend off sporting delights. Speak to you next week, when you are more recovered. Love to the children.
Sylvia,I meant to ask you,do they televise the para-olympics. If they don't,I think they are wrong not to do so,dont you.
I hope you are feeling a bit better today.
Have a nice weekend at the party Ann. Let your hair down and enjoy.
(((((((((((((HUGS )))))))))))))))) for Jean,Marie, and for Marilyn who is now on holiday in OZ and NZ.
Love to you all. Mo xxx

Mo, my brother was at a meeting, he stood up and felt something go in his knee at the same time the pain started. He was in agony all night, so my sister-in-law took him to A&E in Abergavenny. The doctors weren't too sure what was wrong, so decided to take him to theatre to try and find the problem. They discovered that a piece of bone had broken off the knee cap, and was moving round inside, so they just washed out the knee cap for now, but they've told John that he will need to have knee cap replacement. Not sure when, I'm going to ring sister-in-law later tonight to find out how he is, so hopefully she will know a bit more than last night.
Alun, Michael and the other members didn't have to wait outside the hall on Sunday, Mo. It was the people that went to see the show that started queuing early. I think because it's one of the most popular shows round the area, so they wanted to get there early.
Thank you for your good luck wishes for Richard for tomorrow. We're all keeping our fingers crossed for him.

Hope you and Roly are alright. I don't like to keep asking, but have you heard anymore about your granddaughter and nephew? I've been thinking about them both.

Jean, so your friends are in for another surprise-- I'm sure they'll love it. Alun has just gone to the club, 'to play trains with his mates', so I'm going to do some scrapping while he's out.

Take care! Love, Sallie.xx

Hi Huia,I am here.
I am just having a lazy half hour.
I went and did two hours cleaning at my sons pub today. He has not had the place very long, and did not want to employ anyone until he got on his feet.
But my lord,I dont think he has cleaned it since he moved in.
The thing I detested doing was having to clean the loos. Some dirty git had
thrown up,all over the wall in the gents toilet.
Thank the lord for nice thick rubber gloves,or I could not have done it.
By the time I had finished, the whole place looked like a new pin.
He now wants me as his cleaner. And he will pay me£7.50 an hour.
Originally he wanted me to do three days a week, but I said no,only two as
he wanted me on a Saturday, and that is my big shop day.
He then asked me to do a friends pub as well. He was prepared to pay me£20.00 for two hours.
I know it's more money, but out off loyalty to my son.I will only do his for him.
I am not getting any younger, and I found it quite hard work today.
My back was killing me,when I got home.
Roly has been pampering me since I got home. So thats a bonus.
I hope you are all fit and well.
Huia, how are you and Phil. What exciting things have you been up to.
Speak to you all soon. Love Mo xxx

I haven't been feeling too well today, headache, and aches and pains all over, so I might not be on for a couple of days, just see how I'll feel.

Hope you are all okay. Speak to you all soon.

Hi everyone

it was a lovely sunny spring day today! It got to about 13C ...... the magnolias are just gorgeous!

We have a Baptist church opposite us, and as I went out this afternoon I spotted a huge trailer parked in their parking lot, but couldn't quite make out what it was.

Well, when I came home with OH, the bottom of our street was closed, a police car was parked across the street at our corner to stop anyone entering ....... good job we'd come up the neighbouring street and into the back lane from the opposite direction!

Turns out, they were doing some filming at the bottom, and it was the food supply (ie, cafeteria) that was parked in the parking lot. They were filming for a TV series. A neighbour down the street said they had all had notices through their letter boxes to say what was happening ....... we're right on the corner, but our front door is on the cross street, so I guess they decided we didn't need to know!

Marie ........ I was so pleased to hear that your tests were negative! Way to go girl!!

I have to go back every year for the squish test. I've been doing it every year since I had the mastectomy in 1995 ............ and I gather they will still want to see me every year until I die!! I have to say that the period between just before having the squish and NOT hearing back from them within about 10 days after having it done is the time that I still worry!

I have no idea whether or when the Paralympics are on TV, we haven't heard anything yet! I most certainly hope that they will be ........ they really are the orphan child. The IOC almost disowns them ............... they insist that the Paralympics should be held after the Olympics, but then disappear back to Switzerland!

The Torch Relay started in Ottawa earlier this week. There is no traditional fire to light the the torch, so Canada has started its own "tradition". First Nations fire keepers from two groups in Ontario held a special ceremony and lit a fire on an island in the middle of an Ontario lake. They then took the embers from that fire to Ottawa and used them to light a cauldron and torches for the start of the relay. Now, the fire keepers are travelling from community to community to Vancouver, lighting cauldrons and torches along the way. They arrive in Vancouver in time for the Opening Ceremony on March 12.

Hello all.
It was good to see you posting Marie. We have missed you on here.
I had a phone call from my cousin in OZ,a couple off nights ago,and she was saying about how much rain had been falling. But then you really did
need it didn't you. Did you manage to get out in your garden after all.
I must get round to doing something with mine soon. I need to empty all
the pots, from last year. And clear the poo, that my cat has managed to do in them. She's such a clever animal,I am sure she was in a balancing act,
in a former life. If you were to see her, with her legs akimbo the pots, you would really laugh. I shall never fathom how she is so precise with her direction, when doing her business.
Sallie ,how did Richard get on with his job interview.? Are you feeling any better today, I do hope so. How did you get on with the therapist on Thursday.?
My goodness Sylvia, you get all the excitement around your way. What with
what happened during the run up to the games, with the police cavalcade.
And now fame, from the film crew. It will soon cost us a few bob to speak to you. lol
Ann,are back home yet. How did the 18th birthday party go. Did your grandson enjoy himself. I meant to ask you before, how is your OH's foot now. Has the pain eased off a bit. I know it can be a long winded process
to get over the pain off it.
Now wheres our "WONDER WOMAN" Jean got to tonight. Cooooeee lovely lady where are you. I hope you and J +D are all well.
A big hello to all our cyber friends. Love to you all. Mo xxx
