****IMPORTANT INFORMATION***

The meet in Shrewsbury has been postponed.

With the increasing Swine Flu dangers and the fact we have some peeps whom are high risk for infection we have, after careful consideration, (and referral to my own company doctor for advice) decided to postpone the meet planned for Shrewsbury on 9th May. We hope to re schedule this meet as soon as the flu threat is reduced.

this from direct.gov ...

" Controlling the spread of a pandemic
Social gatherings
Although close contact with others, particularly in a crowded and confined space, speeds the spread of the virus, there is little evidence that cancelling public gatherings would help the community.

However, international gatherings held in the UK, with participants coming from infected areas, may be postponed.

Travel restrictions
Imposing general travel restrictions is unlikely to have a large impact on a pandemic. It is far more effective for people feeling the symptoms of flu to stay at home and rest. "

those who are particularly susceptible may wish to stay at home, but that shouldn't stop the rest of you - unless of course you've been in contact with someone who is infected. As there are only a handful of confirmed cases in the UK then it's unlikely :-)

hope this helps !

Although I'm not attending this meet. Surely it should be left to the individual to decide on whether to attend or not rather than postponing it.

I'm sure many of those who'd planned to attend, have bought tickets to travel, & possibly overnight accommodation. Such short notice cancellation will mean that these people won't get refunds.

I think people should get this so called pandemic into context. So far only 8 people in the UK have caught this flu. Thats 1 in 8,000,000. The odds of getting struck by lightning in the UK is 1 in 10,000,000.

The way things are at the moment, I would still go to a meet, even though my immune system is still very poor... I would take certain precautions, such as making sure no-one else is ill, lol... and all the ones that I have to take whilst out in the community now, anyway.

To me, it would be good to re-instate the meet... and let those who are wanting to go, decide whether there is any serious risk involved, at the time, and make a final decision on that. That is what I would do, if I was going, but I have something else planned for that weekend.

Cheers... and if it is re-instated, I hope everyone has a wonderful time... I love Shrewsbury!

Love

Too far for me to go to
But I do think this should be a personal choice,as peeps have already made their arrangements and booked tickets

AnninGlos Report 1 May 2009 12:08

I agree Daff, there is no reason to panic at the moment and those who are worried about going can make their own minds up. A bit unfair to cancel at such short notice which could cost people money. I am away anyway so can't go but I am sure, as long as people are not ill and have not knowingly been in contact with anyone who is it will be fine.
