All,

I've been foxed more than once already, with my ancestors saying they were born in "XYZ", and the later census records (England & Wales) showing they never existed. It's not that the above were telling lies, they were consistently reliable, the issue is the area boundary changes through history (I was looking in the wrong place).

I've also noted differences between census areas, and birth, marriage, death areas. Does anyone know if a reference book exists on which area was which, when, and for what purpose?
