Hey all you Aussies, if you want some of your oppossums to replace any that died you are very welcome to come over here and take all that you can catch. They are a pest over here and we shoot or poison them!

Well I didn't manage to stay online for very long so now I am back, hopefully for good, I am glad to read you are safe Mick and didn't lose too much and only things that can be replaced anyway. Guess you have a lot more housework to do now with the dust and soot etc but take it easy, and stay safe in future too.

Mick from the Bush Report 11 Feb 2009 04:16

Well, today the Police removed the roadblocks around my town,
so we can expect 100's of rubbernecking tourists on the weekend-lol

But I really think people need to see what has happened here - its all very well seeing it on TV, but every Australian needs to see what this fire did,
to see it and smell it.

The bureaucrats have started coming round- Govt departments gathering statistics on what we have lost, and what we need (for me just a bit of water and a few bales of hay- oh and a lot of fenceposts!)

I went up into the bush today - what bush? Its all gone - just white ash and black sticks that were trees for mile after mile.

The poor old dog cant understand why he hasnt been getting his daily walk through the bush - I guess I will have to just show him why!

Life goes on!

My computer has been in 'hospital' for a couple of days and I have been anxiously waiting to get it back to find out if Mick is safe. So glad he is.
A few years ago I would have watched the news and thought 'how dreadful' but now I feel I have a more personal interest, having read Micks postings on various threads. He is like a friend.
I reckon if the firebugs are caught they should be dropped off in front of the fire, since they like fire so much, and left to do what they want. If they survive they might think twice about lighting more fires. If they dont they will have learnt their lesson and wont light any more. That would be real justice.
Harsh? Well why not.

Huia.

Good to hear your news and know you are keeping your spirits up.
My thoughts are with you all and particularly with the families who have lost everything and all the lives lost.
I hope they have got it in control before it gets very hot again as I believe the forecast is for later in the week.
Take care.

Brilliant news Mick that you are safe. I'm a Sth Gippy girl originally, now in Albury, we are still watching the Beechworth/ Myrtelford/Dederang/Yackandandah situation, they are on ember watch but it's much cooler now and hardly any wind today, so hopefully things are improving. Well done
keeping your house and chooks, take care of yourself and your neighbours, we all need one another at these times.............Hz

Thank God you've still got your sense of humour (the beer ...) :-))))

I was saying to my hubby last night, I don't know how these "murderers" - for that's what the arsonists are - can sleep, knowing that they've taken lives. Hubby added that they've also taken away peoples' homes, family, pets - the lot, in some cases.

All good wishes to you over there. Take care.

Hi all

Thank you so much for all your kind thoughts.
Just checking in briefly as i still am without power and really need to
use the generator to keep the beer cold! lol

We had a meeting today in the community hall - never seen so many tired and dirty people - but we won - all in good spirits - and it did us all
good to tell each other our "war stories"

Mick. Glad to hear you are all safe, but my heart goes out to all those people who have lost a loved one, and their homes.

The arsonists should be charged with PREMEDITATED MASS MURDER, if they're ever caught.

I got email from my cousin to say she is safe, and I pray she remains that way.

I've been unable to get online till now, so was happy to read good news of Micj and my relli Janette.

Glad you back Liz

Yay Mick, relieved to hear you are ok. It must be awful to be so close, so many around you. Very scary stuff.

Now up to 173 lives lost and more expected, the fires are still burning. 5000 homeless.

To put it in perspective for those of you in the UK & elsewhere, almost 900,000 acres have now been burnt (or about 1350 square miles). That's the entire county of Shropshire!

It's massive. Hope the people who have lost everything get some help soon.
