Yep he's been in touch and says its like being back in 'Nam with all the helicopters but they are water bombing the fires some way away. The wind hasn't got up yet and doesn't seem to be moving in his direction at the moment.

Oh how awful, I was looking at the floods in Queensland last night it seems Oz is really getting a battering at the mo Cyclones in the North and heat waves and bush fires in the north.

I hope it eases soon.

Just spoken to son in Oz(Melbourne area) and mentioned the bush fires.
He says that their prime minister has advised people to stay in,but they are off to the beach for the day to go surfing.
He also says that the roads are slippy because of the heat and if they get rain on top will make them worse.There have been a lot of accidents already.
Just hope they get these fires to stop spreading.It must be very worrying.

Its 10 am here, the temperature is 33 degrees, and the wind is just starting to get up - blowing form the northwest now- which is where the fire is. I will be staying here and fighting it if the worst happens..

no smoke here yet.

Hi Mick, of course you want to fight the fires if they come near your home and livestock etc but do take care, don't take risks, your life is the most important thing. Have you had time to gather together all important documentation etc where you can get it quickly if need be to take away with you, or have it safe where it won't get spoiled from fire or water? Will be thinking about you and sending positive thoughts that things are ok for you.

11.31 am - temperature now 40 degrees , not too windy.

2 firetrucks took up station in the school next to my farm, but have now gone - obviously needed elsewhere.

12.33 pm - 42 degrees - getting windy.

The fire is a huge smoke plume to the north west now.

Still no smoke here - seems to be moving due south.
