Such a shame Julia, to be so near yet too late, it's hard for me to understand that adoptee's very often did'nt find out that they were adopted til after their parents died!! Should imagine that had quite an effect on your Mum. Men very often don't view things as we do!!

HI,
My mum discovered that she was adopted at the age of 50, a couple of years back we started to trace her birth family with help from people on GR.
Unfortunatly her birth mother had died just 5 years before but we found a cousin who we have corresponded with. we also found that mum has a half brother and although we have tried to contact him he has not replied.
Good luck with your project!
Julia

My mum was adopted in 1933 age 3 when her mum died. She was one of 9.Her dad was not allowed to keep the girls. All of the girls went to family. My mum kept on crying to her brothers when they visited her so finally they took her home.Social services turned up and found my mum under a bed. They had her adopted outside the family. She met up with all her family after she got married.(they found her) her dad had died when she was 15.She never met her sister one year younger.2 years ago we found her.Mum is now 80 and her sister 79.They look like 2 book-ends Annie

I have no story to tell either but a friend of mine has recently expressed a vague interest in finding out about his birth parents . I shall be watching this thread with interest.

I am so pleased for you and your daughter that you have found each other after so many years : )

Hi all, have set myself a project for the New Year. I was wondering out there with all you GR's how many of you have met up with birth mothers/birth relations, and how it went /is going? A short profile on me is, I had to have my daughter adopted in the late 60's, as horror of horror I was'nt married, it took a change in the law and 39 years for us to be re-united, and I was wondering what stories some of you have to tell. Thanks for reading and hopefully replying.
