Hello there Elizabeth, how the heck are you doing my love, it's ages since our paths have crossed, and I personally have missed you....mind you I can't speak for our Shelly, she's having a mad hatters day by the sounds of it, so you will have to forgive her, if her gaffa tape came your way, instead of Gills.
How are your family faring now, well I hope.

Gill, we need a bit of decorating done, are you free soon to do it for us. We do give out free cups of tea or coffee.LOL( only joking )
I will put the pictures and ornaments away, so you won't need to wrap them for me.
Our Shelly is a good do it yourself person, she has even managed to do some of her own electrics.
Come to think of it, between the lot of us, we could set up our own DIY business LOL.
I am quite handy with a paint brush, but can't do the ceilings anymore, but should the walls need a coat of emulsion I'm your girl.
Shelly did a beautiful mural on her garden wall, a couple of years ago, so she's really artistic.

hello Shelly thanks for welcoming me

I'm busy too at the moment sorting out this place. We've just decorated everywhere and sorted out the gardens, although the grass needs cutting again so OH will be doing that later.

I've changed a lot of pictures (got new ones) and ornaments and the like so I'm busy packing all the old stuff up that we still want to keep so OH can pop it in the loft later. Only problem is I haven't got enough brown tape to seal the boxes with. I asked OH to bring some boxes and bubble wrap out of the loft this morning before he went out but didn't check if I had enough tape....silly me LOL. So all I can do is pack things up and tape the boxes up later. I must remember to phone OH to ask him to buy some tape on his way home. So that's my day organised :-D :-D Luckily there isn't to much to do.

Glad to hear your daughter's party was a great success Mo. I've posted on the "Just Jeans" thread about it.

It's my mother in law's birthday today, we took her present to her on Thursday as my OH has to work today and won't be back home until almost 9pm. He'll phone his mum later to wish her happy birthday.

Oh Huia, I am so surprised at you, forgetting your camera, it's so unlike you my love.
It sounds like you all had a fabulous time.
We had a surprise birthday party for our daughters 50th last night. We are so pleased it went well, we hoped she wouldn't pass out from shock, or even turn round and walk out, but no she really enjoyed herself.

The day before yesterday (Thurs 15th our time) I drove over the harbour bridge to go to my sister and brother-in-law's diamond wedding anniversary. They took me to Valentines for lunch, meeting up there with his brother and sis-in-law and our other b-i-l, and their daughter. It was a lovely lunch and I didnt stuff myself too full. At the last minute I realised I hadnt taken any photos so dragged out the camera and got some of everybody, except myself!

Yesterday was spent resting and dozing to catch up on my sleep.

Gill it's been so hectic today, we have not even had a chance to see our daughter, but we dropped a beautiful bouquet into her house, first thing this morning.
A dozen red roses and gypsophelia, they smelt wonderful.

I have written in more detail, over on Just Jeans thread re cousin Tricia and our meeting today, suffice to say, it was great, but exhausting, I have never known anyone who could talk for England and Australia at the same time. lol

Speak to you all tomorrow, I say all, thats tongue in cheek, coz it looks like this little thread has been forgotten again, by the other friendlies.

I've found the "Just Jean" thread Mo, so I've been posting on there. Hope your daughter had a lovely 50th birthday today <3 and she enjoys her surprise party on Friday.

Oh how wonderful Mo, to meet up with your rellies from OZ, do you have anything planned for their visit? I remember an old school friend who moved to OZ over 25 years ago visiting me a few years ago and we took her all over the place, she had a great time and I took lots of photo's.

So I'm a year or so younger than your daughter then as I'm 50 next year. I'm not 49 till next month though so I shouldn't really age myself should I? LOL Hope she has a lovely party on Friday.

Isn't that lovely for Huia entering some of her photo's into competitions. I'm afraid my photo's are just on a very small camera, which isn't very good, but at least I don't chop off anyone's heads in them, so at least I can point a camera ok, but that's about as far as it goes with me. :-)

I've just washed my hair so I'd better go and dry it before it gets all tangled up, It's down to my waist so takes a while to dry and style it. I've still got a bit more washing to do as well, but I'm getting there

Hi there friendlies.
It's good to hear from our Huia, she is a lovely lady Gill, and does a lot of charity work herself.
And talk about knocking herself out, well, she goes from dawn till dusk, either taking her photo's,or copying the zillions she has collected over the years.
Our Huia is very very clever with her photography, and has entered many a competition, getting herself acclaim for her hard work.

My daughter will be 50 tomorrow Gill, so you can see why it's a special celebration on Friday.
Like Huia, and Yvonne, I am also on facebook, it's my way of keeping in daily contact with our family......Nosey old me really LOL

I am getting so excited, my Australian cousin is arriving today sometime. We have never met, she is my dad's sisters daughter, and neither of us had any idea that we existed, till a very distant relative passed away, and a team of tracers found us.
I had no idea of my three cousins in OZ, but am now in contact with one by phone, one by Facebook, and the one thats arriving today, by christmas card lists.
She is visiting family up north at the moment, but is travelling down for a three day visit today....oooh so exciting.

Must go now, need the loo, all this excitement is getting to much for me. LOL

Hello Huia, I am 48 almost 49 years old and have been married to my present husband for 28 years. I was married before but that didn't work out, the only good thing about it was the birth of my eldest daughter Sandra. She is such a lovely daughter, but I suppose I'm a bit bias.

I'm not on Facebook, don't really know what I'm doing so it put me off trying. I have been thinking about it though so maybe one day I'll join. That's an awful lot of photo's and such a big job, but will be worth it when it's all finished.

We have got some lovely sunshine here today, so I'm taking advantage of it and washing all the bedding plus the mountain of clothes..... it's never ending isn't it?

Sounds like another load has just finished so I'd better go and peg it out. Mo mentioned another thread you are all on called "Just Jean" so I'm going to see if I can find it later. Thanks for welcoming me, I'll pop back later if I get the time <3

Hello there Mo, and a big welcome to Gill. I live in New Zealand. I dont get on here as often as I used to as I have so many other things to do. I have started a couple of Facebook pages with (mostly) old photos on them of areas in which I have lived. I like to share the old photos, some taken by my dad over 90 years ago! I am busy scanning my brother-in-law's old photos. That is a big job as he took thousands. I am about a third of the way through, I think. When I finish his I will start on the ones my husband and I have taken over the years. I will be 80 in January, so I want to get them all done before I die or become unable to do it any more. Cheerful, arent I?

I admire people who work with special needs children, it must be such a rewarding job.

Sandra attended a special needs school and she thoroughly enjoyed it, they were very good with her and when we adopted her they made her a little cake.

Sandra is from my previous marriage so when my present husband wanted to adopt Sandra, because my name had changed, I had to adopt her as well. She was 8 years old and wanted to tell her friends all about it after we'd been to court, she was on a school trip for a few days so we had to pick her up from there, then we took her back....well, when we returned everyone clapped and cheered then showed her the cake. It was lovely.

I put our Christmas decorations up a week before you on my birthday and Sandra helps, we put Christmas songs on and have a great day, then nearer the big day Sandra and I bake lots of goodies. I'm a baker as you've probably guessed by my name so enjoy baking with my daughter and she's starting to enjoy it herself now, before she just ate the things I made but now she wants to join in and make something herself.

So your granddaughter had a brilliant idea of a party and nan ends up doing all the work, mind you aren't that what nan's are for, I bet she's really grateful of all your help?

I believe the other thread I'm on disappeared and was then re-started. Sorry to hear Jean had a fall, hope she is ok now. Warden controlled places are a god send aren't they? It should give her peace of mind now, knowing there is help on hand should she need it.

Going to watch Eastenders now, I love my soaps, it's my one true weakness, as they used to say on Larkrise to Candleford :-D :-D

I also post on the Just Jean thread. It was one I started for a very lovely lady called Jean, who had started a thread for people to introduce them selves to others, and it suddenly just vanished one day, so I went in search of her, and it's been running for a few years now.
At the moment, our Jean is in the process of moving, following a fall she had a while back, she and her O.H are moving to a warden controlled place, and is waiting for her internet to be installed next week I believe.
Well done to your Sandra in her cooking experience, I am sure she will thoroughly enjoy helping out on christmas day.
I bet she will get very excited when it's time for the decorations to go up.
My children used to love it on the first of December, when the decs went up, as they knew then that it wouldn't be long for father christmas to come.

This Friday, my grandaughter has arranged a surprise birthday party, for her mum.
This evening we went shopping for food....oh lordy, I forgot that there was no way she could put the frozen food in her mums freezer, with it being a surprise.
My poor freezer is bursting at the seams, and to top it all, good ol Nan has got to do the cooking, as our grandaughter has to work Friday.
She is a lovely caring girl, who works with special needs children herself,at a local special needs school, so I can understand your joy in Sandra's progress.

Hello Mo, thank you for welcoming me.

Our daughter is 30 years old but like I said earlier she is special needs with learning difficulties so her mental age is much much lower. Her younger sister moved out last year and Sandra really misses her as she moved a long way from us so we only seen her twice in the last year. It was quite unexpected, she was visiting a friend in Leeds but then decided to stay there, she now has a flat and a new job which she is doing very well in, but because of it being so unexpected Sandra didn't cope very well at first, it's only been just over a year, so last Christmas was a bit sad for her. It's nice that she is looking forward to it this year though.

Sandra cooked a roast dinner all by herself yesterday for the first time, under my supervision of course and I'm so proud of her. We were watching the special needs hotel together and it's gave her the confidence to try new things herself. I've tried teaching her lots of things over the years but she has problems remembering and got upset a lot so it's been a long process. I can't believe how much she has come out of her shell since her sister left and now Sandra wants to cook the Christmas dinner.....bless her. I've said she can help me, which she's pleased about and looking forward to.

I don't have any grandchildren, our youngest said she doesn't want children, she is very career minded and I can't see Sandra having any children of her own just yet. You have a lot of grandchildren and great grandchildren, how nice that must be. I bet they keep you busy? Yes the threat of father Christmas works very well for youngsters this time of year, I was similar myself when my two were little, although to be fair they were very good anyway so I was lucky I suppose.

I'm updating my family tree at the moment so should be online most days, I'd love to carry on posting and thanks again for your kind welcome.

I'm on another thread if you'd like to join us, it's very much like this one and called "What kind of things do you remember from childhood" it's been going for quite a few years so it's manly chit chat about our day to day lives now, but you'd be more than welcome to join us if you'd like. I joined almost a year ago and they have all made me feel very welcome, we chat every day, some days more than other's, but there's always someone on there each day. :-)

Welcome Gill, our poor little thread has been forgotten of late, but every so often we manage to pop back and have a chat with each other.
Christmas is very special for children, it's not surprising that your daughter Sandra loves it.
My grandchildren love this time of year, and the threat of Father Christmas watching them, still holds well, in keeping them in order. The fear of not getting any presents, is horrendous to them.
We have fourteen grandchildren, and four from our daughters second marriage, and two and nearly three great grandchildren.
I love them all, but it's an expensive time of year for us, as you can gather.
Hopefully our other friends will pop in to welcome you, but please come back and have a chat with us any time.
