Yes Elizabeth remember "The Bodyguard" very well... made at a time when Kevin Costner seemed to be in every other film that came out... don`t think Whitney Houston was the best actress in the world, but no denying her beautiful voice...will be intresting to see her sing on the X factor tommorow...her first live appearance in the UK for over 13 years. I certainly didn`t know it was originally planned years earlier for Steve McQueen and Diana Ross.... what an amazing couple they would have made together....

Also remember The Onedin Line, though didn`t watch it myself, but remember my Mum was a fan...

Hope you are all keeping well, warm and okay.

What did you think of the film "The Bodyguard" 1992 with Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston.

Did you know originally Steve McQueen and Diana Ross were set to make this film but there were studio problems and the project was shelved.

Randolph Scott has always been an overlooked actor.

I watched him in "Seven men from now" where he plays a widowed sheriff.
Lee Marvin appears too with Gail Russell.

It was a B movie but now has cult status.

Does anyone remember "The Onedin Line" on TV in the 1970's.
I managed to get a couple of parts of series 2 for my mum.
Great series. They are not made like that now.

Yes thanks for your concern Pam, I`m fine.....have been following the thread but havn`t really had anything to add as most of the topics have been old films that I certainly havn`t seen, and in a lot of cases never heard of!!!

Must admit havn`t seen any films myself lately, neither on TV or at the Cinema. Don`t seem to be "online" as much as I used to be either, I suppose now we`re in to Winter {sorry} the TV programmes have improved and have been following a few things on there regularly .....

Murderland on ITV this Monday 9pm with Robbie Coltrane looks good...as a fan of Cracker back in the 90s I`m hoping this will be as good.

Did you ever John Mills as a cobbler in Hobson's Choice ? Charles Laughton also starred

I have mentioned this film before, it starred John Mills, Carol White and a young Stuart Wilson...."Dulcima", from the novel by H.E. Bates, it's very rarely shown on the telly. It's a lovely film with a very surprising ending! I have it on DVD and video and have to watch it every so often or i get withdrawel symptons...that and lots of other films too! It was made in 1971, and it's about a young country girl who keeps house for a tight fisted old farmer who lives alone (John Mills) and the country girl (Carol White) falls for the young game keeper (Stuart Wilson). If it's ever shown on telly do watch it, it's a good one!

Ah yes David Viviene Leigh, beautiful actress.

Here's a little bit of trivia, when I was very young my dad did a stint as a taxi driver for a private company. I remember him telling me how he'd taken Larence Olivier and his then wife to a psychiatric hospital in Surrey, I remember the name of the place, there were many hospitals in that area. Dad said it was so sad to see this really beautiful actress in obviously such a terrible state of mind.

One of his favourite films with her in was, Waterloo Bridge, also with Robert Taylor.

Trivia...

Laurence Olivier was the husband of the actress who played Scarlett O'hara in Gone With The Wind.

The marriage was failing then, I read she was "ill" Her boy friend Ashley in Gone With The Wind acted superbly as Percy in The Scarlett Pimpernel. His adversary was Raymond Massey who went on to star as the head of Blair Hospital in the TV epic that also starred Richard Chamrline (sp)

She was married to tony Wright from 1956-59.

Married Ian Hendry in 1963 and they had two children. Divorced 1971 and she died on the 6th Decemver 1972. Her ashes are interred at Golders Green Crematorium.
