The earliest western series I sort of remember seeing first time round in the UK was "Branded" with Chuck Connors.

there was only ever one man for me in a western...and that was Wishbone outta Rawhide!! LOL! ☺

Ah yes Ed, Bonanza, i loved that programme with them all riding their horses through the burning map...and the sex god that was "HOSS".

Anyway, back to the films.

I'm currently watching the remake of The Time Machine. Struggling to get into it though; I prefer the original with Rod Taylor (I think we've mentioned it before).

Ha Ha Ed, you make me smile the way you get us all back on track when you think we're going off on one!!

Well, that's the end of the Time Machine. It was OK but not one I'd bother to watch again.

I think they should make a film of Robert A Heinlein's novel "Stranger in a Strange Land". Mind you, the film industry would probably make a complete mess of it, like they did with "Starship Troopers" (one of the best sci-fi novels ever written).

I love any films with Robert Stack and Cary Grant in them.

"On the town" the exuberant musical about 3 sailors on leave is enjoyable if you are feeling a bit down.

The cast is superb Gene Kelly, Frank SInatra, Betty Garett, Ann Miller.
Great.

I also like film noir films from the 1940's.

There is one called "Desperate" where Steve Brodie is on the run from the police, the mob and almost everyone else and he hasn't done anything wrong!

The other film is D.O.A with Edmund O'Brien who is mistakenly caught up in a plot. There is a twist in the end.

This board has brought back lots of happy memories watching films.

Yes what a handsome chap Cary Grant was. Robert Sack has not been mentioned on here before, good actor. Glad you like our thread Elizabeth, please visit again, we're very small, but very select!

Rod Steiger, ah one of my favourite actors Mo, he was exellent playing Al Capone. Another film which he played a man going through a bit of a mid life chrisis, also had i think Judy Geeson in it, but I can't for the life of me remember the title. Think it was made in the seventies. Yes, Dean Martin was a very good straight actor, and I think we've mentioned Rio Bravo on here before...he's trying to come off the booze in it I believe. Isn't his name Dude in the film? I know for a fact he sings the films score "Rio Bravo", as it was a favourite of my dad's that and many more of his.

Robert Stack in the Untouchables, great.

Must confess to being an Alfred Hitchcock fan. Enjoyed Dial M for Murder and Strangers on a Train amongst others.

Well I think we must have a hat trick of the same opinions on the Time Machine....OH was watching it last night while i was on the computor.....I woke him up when I went to bed!!.....always the measure of a good film that....if you stay awake,no matter how tired you are its worth seeing again, if you doze off in the first 10minutes...don`t bother.

Have seen those Hitchcock films John many years ago, but can`t remember them very well...there was another good one Rear Window, which they re-made with Harrison Ford i think, that was good.
Like Pam a bit of a bird phobia, so that ones a definite no go for me.....

Rawhide........has no one mentioned Rowdy Yates, wasn`t he played by Clint eastwood? Think it was one of his first big roles...

Elizabeth.....my dad used to like that On the town film....he was a huge Sinatra fan, and also loved the Road to.......films with Bob Hope.

Talking of Rod Steiger, does anyone remember seeing the film "The Illustrated Man"? It was based on a collection of short stories by Ray Bradbury. It only contains three of the 18 stories, but I'm a great fan of Bradbury's books. Many people ridiculed the film, but I thought Steiger's portayal of the tattooed vagrant was excellent.

I also think Steiger's interpretation of Napoleon Bonaparte in "Waterloo" was also very good.

Hi Ed, don't remember "The Illustrated Man", but yes remember him playing Bonaparte in Waterloo, he had the stature for that part didn't he.

An exellent actor and a favourite of mine, I think I've said before...he was wired up a little differently. He was good in another of my favourites, Doctor Zhivago.
