Hi Pam, if you liked Deliverance then you'll love the film on BBC1 right now - Southern Comfort with Powers Boothe and Keith Carradine.

It's just got to the bit where they've encountered the Cajuns for the first time ...

Afternoon folks, thanks Edd for telling me about Southern Comfort being on the telly last night, have seen it before but didn't know the title. Watched about ten minutes of it and then had to go to bed, tiredness got to me. Think about two or three are left in the end aren't they? Yes,it's in the 'style' of Deliverence. I have a cousin who lives on Long Island, and before she and her hubby married he (her hubby ) used to go on these adventure trips with friends for a few days, I remember him saying that they ventured on to some dodgy parts and at one time were arrested. He said to my hubby if he'd heard a banjo he'd have s***t himself! Apparantly you only have to go out of the area a little way further north from New York state and they don't like the city types atall.

One film I do like and it's set in the deep south, is 'The Big Easy' with Dennis Quaid and a blonde actress who's name escapes me for the minute. Dennis Quaid is a policeman and accepts that taking 'backhanders' is all part of the job, anyway this police woman played by the actress who he falls in love with (who's name escapes me) shows him the error of his ways...and it has a lovely ending.

Ellen Barkin, that was the actress, it's just come to me.

Before Antonio Banderas was discovered in America, I remember seeing him in a film called 'Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown', very funny film actually, directed by Pedro Almadova. I've got it on tape and may give it a look sometime soon. It's subtitled but the humour comes through.
If ever you get the chance to see it please do folks...it has been on the telly a few times. ☺

Hi Pam...lovely thread:-) Our Mau on the Coast sometimes puts up a Movie Quiz on here...you would really enjoy them and we also have a laugh. I love the Big Easy and have seen it loads of times, love Cajun music!. I enjoy any Bette Davis film and in particular Now Voyager. I also love the original Seven Samurai, Sea of Love with Al Pacino...great film... and a film whose name escapes me, with an Australian actor, who has lost his memory, a thriller. Anyone remember it? BC XX

Oh, havent read back, but did anyone mention The Baker Boys or was it The Baker Brothers? with Michelle Pfeiffer and Jeff and Beau Bridges? Fantastic......

Think thay is was the Fabulous Baker Boys but might be wrong.

I know that Mel Gibson was in a film in the seventies where he played a chap who was a bit backward, but don't think it was 'cos of memory loss. We'll have to get our thinking caps on for that one!

Al Pacino another good actor (understatement) Love Dog Day Afternoon and also Serpico with him in them. Saw him being interviewed on telly on the programme The Actors Studio, he came across as so nice and not up his own wotsit atall. I of course like all the Godfather films with him in too. Believe Ellen Barkin starred with him in Sea of Love didn't she?

Hi Posh Pixie, I knew it was on but as I'm not a great fan of Mel Gibson I gave it a miss...missed a good laugh by the sounds of it!!

Buttercups Fields..... the film your talking about is Memento.....with Guy Pierce who used to be in Neighbours in the early days.... I love it myself....he has to tatto everything on himself because his memory only lasts about 2 minutes, problem is he dosn`t know whos telling the truth and who isn`t.... so has a body covered in useless information!!! watched it with OH who tutted all the way through it, not me though i thought it was great, must watch it again someday.

Another goody is Jagged Edge.....starring Jeff bridges and Glenn Close, a very good thriller, that still terrifys me at the end when she discovers who the real killer is and lays in wait for him... ...... another very good Jeff bridges film is Against all Odds with the beautiful Rachel Ward, and James Woods in quite a sinister role. It came out early eighties, not long after the Thorn Birds had been a huge hit on the TV of which Rachel was the star, does anyone remember it? also starred Bryan Brown, and Richard Chamberlin as the Priest who fell in love with Meggie.......aaahhhh, it was such a tearjerker.

What an interesting thread, heard of most, seen 'em as well. Agree with "The Italian Job" just loved the closing scene with Noel Coward, no other country in the world can touch us Brits for humour. A special for me was 'Paris Texas", seen it a dozen times at least. You do need to watch it more than once. Night of the Generals, loads of top actors. Has no one seen Sling Blade with Billy Bob Thornton, great film and for this old fella, a tear jerker would be "When the north wind blows"

'Edward Swissorhands' pure fantasy, but I love it. The music is beautiful and also it's very sad when Vinsent Price dies in it too. At the end when Wynonna Ryder is telling the story about the boy who lives on the hill in the castle all alone. Then you've got Diane Lane who is the Avon Lady...it shouldn't work but some how it does.

Another gem...'Wild at Heart'. A brilliant David Lynch film with great music by Chris Issak ( the haunting 'Wicked Game.') Sometimes disturbing but none the less a brilliant film...you'll either love or hate this one.

That film with with Billy Bob Thornton I haven't seen it but watched bits of his biography and they mentioned that film, did he write and direct it too? Another one I must get to watch. ☺
