I'm just watching the Underworld double bill on Film 4 with the lovely Kate Beckinsale.

Hello folks, bit late in tonight, we had a very busy shift at work and a few of us went for a bite to eat and a drink after, nothing alcoholic as I was driving.

Yes, I'd like to see how Harry gets out of his predicament in The Long Good Friday - mind you I doubt whether they'd make it now. The release of the original film was delayed by two years because of the subject matter, so it may not be considered a suitable material anymore.

Totally overdosed on Kate Beckinsale in rubber and leather last night - I hadn't seen Underworld Evolutions before, but like most sequels it wasn't as good as the first film in the series. (I think the only two series of films where the sequels are as good as the first releases are the Rocky films and The Lord of the Rings)

A fish called Wanda.....isn`t that the one with john cleese?....very funny as I remember, I havn`t seen Robin Williams in Dead Poets society, but his film Patch Adams is also a very sad one, have you seen that? he also plays a very sinister weirdo in One hour Photo...he`s truly a very versatile actor.

Must admit havn`t seen your Richard Dreyfuss film either ,but one to catch of his if you havn`t already seen it is Mr. Hollands Opus........ it spans 30 years, and he plays a music teacher who wants to write one great piece of music, music is his love and his life and then he discovers his son is deaf, and the realisation that his son will never hear his beloved music hits him hard...... He sings a terrible rendition of John/Yoko Onos song Beautiful Boy in the film, and because it is such a superb film you can forgive Richard for his terrible singing!! Was made in the early 90s.

Has anyone seen Castaway? not the Oliver Reed /Amanda Donohoe one, the Tom Hanks one........ he had to lose about 3 stone for the role, and his slow descent in to a sort of madness from isolation/ hunger/loneliness is very well done, if you have seen it, the sheer panic he endures when he loses the Football that he`s named Wilson and speaks to and takes everywhere with him really shows Tom Hanks at his best.
also loved him in Forest Gump.... the way he there for things that happened in History like Watergate is priceless.......

Hello Lynda - we're bumping into one another again.

I couldn't agree more about Dead Poets Society, it's just one of those films that "gets you".

There is a fantastic film on Five US at the moment that I have mentioned before - Glory starring Matthew Broderick, Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington.

It's about the first black regiment in the US army in the American Civil War.

Evening, Nicky and Lynda, haven't seen Dead Poet's Society or Who's Life is it Anyway, but as for a Fish Called Wanda and Dirty Rotton Scoundrels both very funny films!

Not seen Tom Hanks in Castaway either...remember the Oliver Reed one though Nicky, Amamda Donohoe never ever worried about getting her kit off as my hubby would say. She's in Emmerdale now and she still looks very slim. I watched her on 'Loose Women', she came across so nice and not at all big headed, very grounded and had a good sence of humour too.

Forest Gump is on Film 4 at the moment Nicky, we've been watching it ( hubby still is ) just thought I'd come in here and check my thread, what a coincidence you mentioning it.

Think I'll give our thread a couple of nudges everyday...it seems to do the trick.

Hi Lynda, The London Nobody Knows thread is good isn't it...fancy Ed bumping into his cousin. I was born in the capital, St Pancras, long while ago though and don't get there very often. But try to do two or three trips a year with the daughter ' to do the sights.' :0)

yes it was odd bumping into Gary like that. We have contacted before on GR, but sadly haven't seen one another for over 30 years.

Just finished watching Glory, still have a lump in my throat. May carry on to watch 1941 on Five US, it's a comedy - bizzarely by Spielberg - and has a star-studded cast - Dan Akroyd, John Belushi, Robert Stack and the great Toshiro Mifune (starred in several of Akira Kurosawa's masterpieces and was in the series Shogun with Richard Chamberlain)

It's a Wonderful Life has to be one of the most uplifting films for anyone who has ever wondered if their life had any significance. As individuals, we are all connected to one another (as anyone who has visited Genes Reunited will verify). The films shows how the smallest of gestures can make such a difference to the life of A.N. Other. A great film that I watch annually - especially at Christmas. Yes it's an oldie but the subject remains eternally valid.

Thanks for your post Pamela, I must confess that ' It's a Wonderful Life ' is one of many films that I've heard such rave reviews said about it, but I've never seen it. I'll deffinately make a point of watching next time it's on. James Stewart is in it I believe and I have the jist of the story line.

Just flicked off of 1941, can't really get into it (mind you I am staring at a laptop on my knees). Just gone onto E4 to watch "100 Greatest Tearjerkers" which is a countdown of the greatest "weepie" moments on TV and film. I've seen it before and don't agree with the No 1. spot (but I rarely do with these things) as I do not rate the film at all - which may suprise a lot of you.

Yes Ed I've seen it too, but can't remember the one that was voted number one...it wasn't ET was it? I seem to remember not agreeing either.

Been watching a bit of Pearl Harbour, but said to hubby that the Jap planes all look so computerised and it spoils the film a bit for me, maybe it's my eyes.

Just watching the countdown on E4 and the film currently on is "To Kill a Mockingbird" with Gregory Peck.

A great film, love the character Boo Radley, who you don't get to see until the end.
