I was born in Queen Mary's Maternity Home, which is just down from Whitestone Pond. I think it's a nurse's home now though, or it may have gone completely.

Evening all, watched Carlito's Way last night, have seen it before a while back but still enjoyed it. (We managed to keep awake this time!)

Be back later as off to watch the vote off',' for Dancing on Ice'. Did anyone see Todd Carty !!!! Cried with laughter...poor sod !! Apparantly he was meant to do it...not so sure !! ☺

Yes I saw Todd Carty too - we were all on the floor when we saw that one!!

EDIT: Well he got saved - I suppose there's some fantastic entertainment value there if you like car-crash TV.

The Blues Brothers is on in a little while on ITV4 - if you like a good laugh and good music then it's one to watch!!

Thought that he'd be saved as people want to watch as you say 'car crash TV'. The young fella who's gone tonight shouldn't have even been in the skate off, but it's the John Sargant thing again.

Another one for the film thread 'Tea with Mousollini.' I really anjoyed that film. The usual mob, Judy Dench, Maggie Smith and I thought Cher was good in it also.

Wonder if we'll hear from Nicky tonight?

This seems to be a 'very exclusive little thread'. Another way of saying no one comes on it but us three!! ha ha.

Watched a bit of Tony Hancock's film "The Rebel " on You tube the other night. It does make me laugh, especially the scene where his landlady Mrs Cravatt (Irene Handle) is moaning about his sculpture ! She's got a scarf on her head and the old rollers in the hair and he refers to her as a 'Turbaned Fool! '

I've not seen Tea with Mussolini, but I remember one of Judi Dench's films that I really enjoyed was "Mrs Brown", when she played Queen Victoria and Billy Connolly was John Brown. Have you seen that one?

No never seen that one Ed, but remember Alistair McGowans's imppression of Billy Connolly being very funny. Also Ronnie Acora his side kick was good too.

First remember seeing Billy Connolly on Parkinson around 1975 time. Found him very funny at first and even went to see his film "Big Bannana Feet," about him in concert. But really went off him totally when he made that remark about that poor man Ken Biggley the hostage. Dreadful thing to say. I believe people walked out of the theatre when he said that.

Hi both...... Yes i am here tonight, been doing a bit of family history stuff, and watching the Ice dancing, thought tonights was really good.......... I want Colleen Nolan to win..........holding her own for all us more mature ladies, ............ am taping the new series of Lost at the moment, its just about finished so will be off to watch it.......Do either of you follow it?

I love Billy Connolly, didn`t know hed said anything about a hostage..... thats the trouble with some of these comedians, they do sometimes step over the mark......{take note Jonathan Ross}!!

Another comedy /drama that the whole family can enjoy The calender girls...based on the W.I. group from up north who all posed naked with strategically placed cakes etc for a calender to raise money for a cancer charity after the husband of one of their members died of the dreadful disease.......it was very good, with an excellent cast including Helen Mirren and Julie walters.

right off to watch "Lost"... can`t wait ,....been a long time since the last series.

Escape from New York does it for me. I think second favourite would have to be Captain Ron and third Escape from LA.

Those in the know will notice a theme here, One and three have Kurt Russell in leather and the second has him in a sarong. But they are damned good films with Captain Ron being a fine adultish comedy even though it was made by Disney

And I've just finished watching Executive Decision.
Film number 4 well that has to be Interview with the Vampire. I'm just a tiniest bit obvious and Brad Pitt is nearer my own age.

So whens Frank Lampard gonna start acting? Hold on that won't work, he's got a terrible voice!

Hello again from Oz. I've just watched "Notes on a Scandal" with Judy Dench and Cate Blanchett. What a movie! I love anything with Judy Dench and she's usually a right charmer, but in this one, she's deranged. I was torn between feeling sorry for her and loathing her....... It's very hot here today, 40 degrees and more of the same forecast for the rest of the week. Will someone please send us some rain!!!

Hi Jen, it hasn't stopped raining on and off here for ages, literally ages! So yes have our rain...please! 40 degrees though...that's a bit too hot for me! Phew!!! I have cousins in Brisbane, never met them though.

Keep contributing to our film thread as it's always good to read other people's favourites and why. By the way I love the Australian comedy programme

Yes, 40 is far too hot. Luckily for us we have ducted cooling so are inside watching the Australian Open tennis this week. We love it! We are currently experiencing the hottest January since 1932 and the longest heatwave for a century. It's so hard, trying to keep our gardens alive, especially with water restrictions in place.
We too love Kath & Kim - our humour is an acquired taste and the folks in the USA just don't get it. Their version failed miserably here and was relegated to an 11pm timeslot by the second week.
Has anyone seen "Australia" with Nicole Kidman? I'm interested to hear your feedback. It's received mix reactions here. Personally, I thought it was corny and portrayed us as a bunch of rednecks.
We love Hyacinth, Benny Hill and Steptoe - nothing like the British humour. We were sorry to see Parky retire, but I guess it was time.

Actually was watching Kath and Kim last night, it was on SKY TV and they had episodes running back to back. Am I right in thinking that the actress who plays the daughter is actually a bit older than the one who plays her mum? My daughter loves it too. I say to her "Listen to me, listen to me!", and I try to do it with an Ozz accent but it's a bit crap actually! It's very cleverly written. I prefere it to our our British series Absolutly Fabulous. One of the episodes shown last night featured Shane Ward. Not spelt that right I don't think.

Ahh my lovely Benny Hill, he was brilliant!! He didn't go down too well with the polictly correct and femine movement I'm afraid, but he was making fun of men...not the girls! He was a comedy genius in my opinion!

Another good one Steptoe and Son, written by Galton and Simpson, and acted just brilliantly by Harry H Corbett and Wilfred Brambell. Loved that too.

I was watching some bits of Hancock stuff on You Tube the other evening, so funny. I remember coming in from school and my dad saying Tony Hancock had died in a hotel in Australia, in 1968 I think it was. I remember watching him and Sid James as a kid and as young as I was, about nine I suppose, they made me laugh! Watching my dad literally cry with laughter probably made me laugh all the more too.

Yes Janet, I like Escape From New York and Escape From LA too - but not for the same reasons as you!

I've not followed Lost Nicky - I'm afraid it kind of "lost" me in about the third episode of series 1. The trouble was I was in Cornwall on holiday at the time it started and I guess the time/location wasn't condusive to getting into a heavy series.

It's a bit like the Matrix films - when I saw the first film for the first time I was working nights and we had it on in the background, so I didn't really get it - it's one of those films you have to concentrate on to understand. However, I decided to watch it again at home a few weeks afterwards and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I've never seen Kath and Kim but I do like Aussie humour - works much better than the US TV stuff. And Jen you have my sympathy with having to suffer 40 degrees!
