Huia Report 16 Dec 2008 18:13

Good morning from New Zealand. Well, not quite so good, a bit drizzly out there and it is supposed to be summer, but then I wont be going outside.
I must print off or copy down all the things on here so I can listen to them later when I have finished sending Christmas cards (havent started yet) and have finished re-covering our 2 settees (three quarters of the way there), and have finished making some black music covers for our choir. I dont know what they do with them all, we always seem to be short. The new librarian says she wont be doing all the things I have been doing so I just hope somebody else will help her.
It has been such a busy year for me but it will be nice next year to sit and listen to music instead of worrying about the choir.
Dame Malvina Major used to sing with some overseas opera companies but decided her family should come first. I dont think she sings overseas much now.
Geoff Sewell was with one of the mens groups, cant think of the name of it. I think he has pulled out as he has a young child with some health problem. Like the others I named, he is a Kiwi.
Another great late Kiwi was Inia te Wiata. And before my time Oscar Natzka. Must be the air down here that makes us such great singers!
Back to work now, reluctantly.
Huia.

mmm, Helen ... you're right, he is ... gorgeous! :)

Not only is he gorgeous, I could listen to his voice forever, such an actor too, you just 'live' every emotion with him.

How strange, another of my favourites, Michael Ball, sitting here listening. A different style of voice, yet equally as entrancing.

Thank you my friend, have so enjoyed listening to your links.

The talk of Dame Kiri made me think of another New Zealander, Hayley Westenra, and I've just searched and found her singing this from Les Mis, I know it's been mentioned on here before, but I think her version is brilliant.

How lovely to have you here with us, sharing your precious memories, bookmarking this thread which I must say I so adore.

I love Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, and you know ... the other 700 don't count! Catherine Jenkins is one of my favourites, have only recently discovered her voice, do you like her too?

Speak soon honey, enjoy your final Tuesday night choir practice.
