I agree with you about the name changes.
I did after 4 years decide to change my name but I put a thread up letting everyone know.Maybe that could be suggested. Shame there are so many leaving though as some of them were interesting people and had a lot to contribute to the site.

Name changes are ok if it's still clear who you are. It's the ones who feel the need to hide behind an other name then set out to cause trouble.

I just ignore annoy who goes on self-indulgent nastiness. If people ignore them then it's like playing by yourself...gets boring after a while. Attention seeking is only fun when you're getting attention. But people round here aren't capable of ignoring it.

On the subject of names, I'm never changing mine because I don't want to lose my twizzly bits LOL. Besides, seeing summer in winter warms me up just a tad.

I disagree that simple name changes are to blame for the problems on this site.

If someone changes their boardname, for whatever reason, then I think many of us can guess/work out who it is. And if we cannot, then there is always likely to be someone else who can.

It is only if the account number changes as well that we get into the realms of sinister intentions.

I think the greatest problem on these boards, apart from the lack of moderators, is the number of groups continually at war with each other.

And if you happen to innocently speak to a member of one of them then you immediately alienate their rivals against you.

It is this fear of upsetting someone that is causing so many to leave or refrain from posting.

I wondered about the urns Julie thought it was an odd name but didnt realise it was you minus...your urns lol.

It's also easy to take something the wrong way and some are more 'touchy' than others.
I would hate to see the site going down hill :((

I am not going anywhere. I don't think the name changes are always an indication of wanting to cause trouble but I do find them confusing. and I have no wish to have to 'ask around' to find out who people are. what would help is, for the first few posts after a name change for the person to add 'formerly....' at the end of their post.

Well, I've only been on Genes for about 18mths, so I'm not going anywhere either. I've paid my fees to find my family. Having people to talk to on these boards is a very much added bonus. But, even in my short time here, I've seen people leave, who I have gathered where on here along time. I agree with Robin and Marion, and also hope I have never caused any offence to anyone
