I blame the menopause on everything!!
Mum was always saying she had no money in her purse even though we knew she had several weeks of pension money somewhere.
When my sis and I had a little look .We found £200 in an old family bible,£100 in her jewelry box and £20 in the back of a photo frame!!!!!!!!!!

Evening everyone,
Had a good day myself. Though well shattered now.
Mum however has now accused our son of stealing £20. Not the first time she's done it by the way and not just to him. Every time we find the said £20's--tucked inside CD cases.One of her her hidey holes for bank cards and money.lol She rang my sister in law not me.never mentioned it to me at all in the 4 phone calls we've had today! I've already got her sisters and other rellies won't visit her,I She has also said the council workmen have taken jewellery before.I know this is common but it does hurt especially as he is the one who always does her garden and tries to check on her taking her tablets for me. He has been a bad lad in his time but he does not deserve this. He adores my Mum.
Oh and she also reckons a red arrow is going to crash cos she's psychic you know!

The chat section of this site never fails to make my day, as a mental health nurse i am working in a home for older adults with dementia, it is a horrible thing for anyone to suffer and it doesnt care who it takes. My days are spent between trying to stop laughing (not in a nasty way) and sitting in my office crying. I love my job working with these wonderful people and every day i am touched by them, our oldest we cared for was 101 and the youngest was 55, this is not an old persons diease my sister once cared for a man of 42. Mental health should not these days be hidden and all forms of mental health should be discussed openly like this it gives others hope. Dementia research needs more funding in the hope of finding a cure. There is one form of dmentia our young today need to be aware of that is Korsakoffs syndrome caused by heavy alcohol consumption, although not strickly a dementia, it has similar effects with memory loss and people are treated within dmentia units ect with todays culture of binge drinking this could be a time bomb. I hope this tread continues.

Hiya Folks,
I am having a good day today,feeling a bit better after my op.
Tale to tell.
I have learnt also not to put too much food in front of my Mum! Me and Monty had curry on our anniversary and although we didn't want Mum to stay she ended up staying to share it with us. Our son was also there,funny how they appear when food is about, well after I had cooked(microwaved) it all son changed his mind! I had half a portion and saved some, Well told Mum there was too much on her plate but she insisted. You get it ,she carried on eating trying to clean her plate. Don't like wasting good food. All of a sudden she stood up,oh the pain! went in the lounge with glass of water. then shouts me I'm having a heart attack get me an ambulance I'm in so much pain can't get my breath. Me-- I stay calm and gets the gaviscon. calmly telling her her eyes are bigger than her belly,two spoons of gaviscon later she is fine. Next day, She says I am so poorly I had a heart attack last night! So I tells her what really happened and she says oh yea.I ask how her tummy is now.NOTHING wrong with me. I just had to smile to myself. Moral is ---Portion control. LOL

Hello Bev nice to see you again x

Dont blame yourself for reporting that person. There really is NO place for ANYONE less than 100% honest in a care or nursing home. You did the right thing.

Hi Kirsty
There was a singer called Gracie Fields who was known as "Sally from our Alley" she was a Lancashire Lass and was a great singer in the 1940's-50s I think your Nan was referring to her as it was a well known phrase many years ago.

There was also a song called "Sally from our Alley" here are the words maybe she was referring to that also.
444. Sally in our Alley

OF all the girls that are so smart
There 's none like pretty Sally;
She is the darling of my heart,
And she lives in our alley.
There is no lady in the land 5
Is half so sweet as Sally;
She is the darling of my heart,
And she lives in our alley.

Her father he makes cabbage-nets,
And through the streets does cry 'em;
Her mother she sells laces long
To such as please to buy 'em;
But sure such folks could ne'er beget
So sweet a girl as Sally!
She is the darling of my heart,
And she lives in our alley.

When she is by, I leave my work,
I love her so sincerely;
My master comes like any Turk,
And bangs me most severely:
But let him bang his bellyful,
I'll bear it all for Sally;
She is the darling of my heart,
And she lives in our alley.

Of all the days that 's in the week
I dearly love but one day—
And that 's the day that comes betwixt
A Saturday and Monday;
For then I'm drest all in my best
To walk abroad with Sally;
She is the darling of my heart,
And she lives in our alley.

My master carries me to church,
And often am I blamèd
Because I leave him in the lurch
As soon as text is namèd;
I leave the church in sermon-time
And slink away to Sally;
She is the darling of my heart,
And she lives in our alley.

When Christmas comes about again,
O, then I shall have money;
I'll hoard it up, and box it all,
I'll give it to my honey:
I would it were ten thousand pound,
I'd give it all to Sally;
She is the darling of my heart,
And she lives in our alley.

My master and the neighbors all
Make gave of me and Sally,
And, but for her, I'd better be
A slave and row a galley;
But when my seven long years are out,
O, then I'll marry Sally;
O, then we'll wed, and then we'll bed—
But not in our alley!

Alley was relating to Neighbourhood
Hope this helps

Regards
Jackie

Bev ,if he does start self harming it won't be your fault.If you hadn't reported him peoples money would still be going missing.Sounds like he needs some special help with his problems.I'm sure everyone would say the same as me.I know how you feel but you aren't responsible for his behaviour.

hi bev

you can't be held responsible for him self harming he needs to see someone for help. wot he did was wrong and again reitterating wot helen said you did the right thing, elderly are vulnerable people and as carers we have a duty of care to protect them.

My Nan had dementia for a long time, I don't remember her remembering who I was ever! she always called me "Sally from our alley'. Would be interesting to know if anyone could shed light on what that was about?!
She was however, despite her fragile state, always singing and clapping her hands and stamping her feet. Which is how I choose to remember her. I think it was easier for me though because she wasn't my parent, my Mum found it very hard at times. x

Mum would sneak out of her care home and stop any man in a car and ask to be taken into town.One day she got a taxi and turned up at her old house wich had been sold.She rang the bell as she had no key ,and when they opened the door in she went asking "what are you doing in my house".She made herself comfy and 5 hours later after they found out who she was and where she was living the Manager of the home picked her up.
The staff always made sure she had the address of the home on her ,but she always threw it away as she didn't want anyone to know that she lived there!
