Arvo...:>))
Hi Carole. Welcome to the Wattlers thread. I'm a Victorian too....Melbournian.
Nice to see a few faces on the thread, and many i have seen around the various boards on GR. since 2003 - 2004
This is the 4th Wattler thread since 2004 and still going strong. Many people since it began ( Aussies and our U.K cousins ) have come and gone from this thread, or now left GR
Our Lew was a good friend and fellow Geno of the Wattle group and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Born in my home town of Melbourne, and as a kid grew up in the same suburb as myself until her family moved away. I had once said to Lew that we had probably passed each other in the street in the late 60s. ..although i wouldnt have known her back then, as she would have only been a kid, and myself in my late teens,or early 20s. Jokeingly....I had said to Lew she was probably the kid that threw stones at my car, or gave cheek hanging off the front gate as we teenagers walked by. We had discovered that her elder sister, and my younger brother had gone to the same primary school. Now living in central N.S.W....Lew had asked me if i would kindly take a Photo of the house she grew up in, as i stil live in the same area. Which i did, and posted it to her, much to her delight, as she was not sure if the house was stil there. Then we found we shared the same parental surname of Richardson, and would have a joke occasionally about her lot from Scotland and mine from Yorkshire Eng....and how my Richardson's were better than hers....lol
The second group all up Wattler Aussie meet, was held at her home in country N.S.W..... and she welcomed us with open arms,( about 25 Wattlers and spouses ) and even provided the entertainment to which she sang songs ( Karaoke style ) and then provided us with her own exhibition on how to Pole dance one handed while holding a glass of bubbly in the other...lol Later on that evening came an exhibition of water Ballet ( fully dressed but stiil holding onto her glass of bubbly ) in her lap pool, much to the delight and applause, laughter, from Wattler onlookers. I remember well the next morning, when we all gathered for lunch at one of her favourite restaurant ( Deebs Kitchen ) and Lew sat there with dark sunglasses on....lol...... Probably to hide bloodshot eyes from the night before, me thinks..?????? Lew was a character, and a more fun loving person would be hard to find. She called a spade a spade, and gave as good as she got.
Lew also desighned a Wattle calender 2009 and added birthday dates of the Wattlers, then sent a copy of it to all she knew in the group. Down the bottom of the front cover it says..." A Pritheth Lew Lew Production!".....I have a copy pinned to my study wall.
A great love for F.History..... and a greater love for her friends.
To quote a saying: Let us be grateful to people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.

Hi Tony
Thanks for the welcome, also for sharing your wonderful memories of your lovely friend Lewella, she sounds like a lovely lady..so sorry for your loss.
I grew up in Melbourne, but know live in the outer suburbs, between Ballarat and Melbourne, so we kind of neighbors:-)) I am an ex pommie born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire. My family migrated in 1966, just before my fifth birthday..so my memories of the old country are nil.
Take care ;-))

Hi Jood, nice to see you

Had the lovely Lara, DIY and Ken stay last week for Lews funeral, good to catch up, but sad it had to be such a sad occasion for a get together
Loz, have fun up home, and have a good time with the little Mason

Morning....:>))
And a very beautiful sunny morning it is to in Melbin. Expecting a top of 30c plus for the next 4 days, so will be spending it in the vege garden, which is thriveing wth the warmer weather.
Had planted out my summer seedlings earlier this year, as i well remember last summer 2008 with 48c plus and hot winds, that burnt everything to a crisp.....including our beautiful Camelia trees ( sob ) So this weekend will cover my Vegie garden with shade cloth. Normally.......we who live further down south ( Melban and surrounding suburbs ), get a bit cooler weather in summer than our Country Victorian neighbours in central and northern Victoria.....but last summer was a warning that things are changeing, and we are told to expect the same Temps again this summer. The pool is getting a good thourough cleaning in preperation too.....lol
Shazza. Like you said mate, i also had been spending to much time on other sites, and my F.H was suffering. Ancestry AU & U.K , Face book , My space , MSN, SGR , GR , F.Re-united , Tribal Pages ,....i found i was coming home from work, sitting down in my study on the puter, and then discovering it was 2:00am in the morning, and nearly time to get up for work......LOL.....soooo something had to give way...... as i was forgetting my better halves first name........hee hee We were like ships in the night, and only gave each other a wave when we passed each other in the kitchen to get a coffee.....:>))
All three daughter's coming over this evening with grandies for a B.B.Q tea, so best get off the puter and go give it a clean.
Carole. My Richardson ( my mothers side ) came from Leeds. My Copley family were also from York ( my dads mother ) My 2x great grandad Richardson came to Melbourne in the 1850s and set up a bootmakers shop in Fitzroy ( Melb Suburb ) Barb and myself stayed in Leeds & York ( among others )a few years ago when we did an ancestor search........ and we loved Yorkshire in general.....but then again, i should love Yorkshire.......my last name is HULL......:>))) ( My Lot were from Essex, Yorkshire, Durham, Lancashire, Wiltshire,.....and a couple of stragglers in and around London greater.
Have a great day/night to all.
Tony....:>))

Hi Laurie..thanks for the welcome:-))
Hello to all.... Wattler's :-))
Tony..I know Fitzroy, my family first lived in Northcote, St Georges Road..We used to catch the tram to go to School every morning, in the late 60's, then we moved to Preston. Later, when I got married, my hubby and I bought out first house in Etham, our next move was to Diamond Creek, then we headed west. We kept out growing our houses due to having our children, as you do!!
I also had family from Lancashire,(my dads side) in fact I just recently found out that my gr gr grandfather died in a coal mining accident in Ashton Under Lyne, (Broadoak Colliery Co) I actually cried when I read that, he was only 35 years old!!! No wonder I couldn't find him on the 1901 census!!!
It is very hot here today, and like you, we are having good use of the pool and the air con!!!
Enjoy your day all!!

Hello everyone,I tried to post last night but have been having trouble with my internet server . I actually wrote an email but in the middle of it it froze and I waited & waited, meanwhile looking at Independence Day on the TV. So to-day my Grandson put me on a new server so I hope all goes well.I wanted you all to know I have read all the words spoken about Lewella , and how lovely were your words Tony telling those of us who had'nt known her as long as you, what a Geat Lady she was. I always had a good laugh when I read her Posts.
MAY YOU REST IN PEACE DR.LEW.

Details: Sentence details: Convicted at Kent Assizes for a term of 10 years. Conditional Pardon. Vessel: Sir George Seymour. Date of Departure: 04 November 1844. Place of Arrival: Van Diemen's Land.
Conditional Pardon in 1847 ( N.S.W ) ...alowing for Aussie spelling errors...lol TITCHMER William - - - - RW 16 Jul 1847 [4/4428] 772 - 039
I s'pose you have the right now to claim a peice of Aussie soil mate....We do have a few acres we can spare.

Well he might have Dizz.?
Cant see any marriage for him, or a death...so far. He also could have moved around Aussie and settled in any State.
He didnt murder anyone, so he could have gone back home....if he got a full pardon. He also would have been allowed to go to New Zealand too.
Will check for you a bit more...but cant promise anything ( specially Convicts....because many changed the spelling of their names to avoid being chastized...or to cover themselves from bringing shame on the family name.
The Surname TITCHNER in Ozzie has many spelling variations Dizz.
Will check for you....:>))

O'k....it looks like it dropped off Convicts all over the place.
Tasmanian Archives Convict ships "Sir George Seymour" One voyage only Male convicts on board Departure Port: Woolwich / London / Downs Departure Date: 09 / 21 Nov 1844 Arrival Port: Hobart Arrival Date: 27 Feb 1845
Convicts landed: 344 (2 Sydney, forwarded later, 175 Port Phillip, 169 Hobart)
Notes: Surgeon's Journal possibly available on AJCP microfilms.
So he could have served his few years in any State.
N.S.W.....Victoria( Port Phillip ).....or Tasmania

Hi Barbra. Welcome to the Wattlers thread.
What tother side might that be ( Fellow Aussies )
There are quite a few Aussie on these boards.......a few on Records Office, Tips boards, General, Chat, Trying to find, Surname Board, History,.......or do you mean another site.
I visit most boards, but mainly add to this one. ( it has sentimental value )....:>)).......and began in 2004.
Have a nice day.

Dizzi. ( When your looking in )
Cant find him in Tasmania or N.S.W..........but,given the fact that this ship dropped off Convicts at Geelong ( Victoria )
Eg:..... sailed on to the Port Phillip Districts. Arrived in Geelong on 20 March 1845 where 175 Exiles were discharged.........
This ( given and allowing for spelling errors ) and early Aussie Index's are full of E'm...lol...... TITCHNER/TITCHMER/TICHNER/TICKNAR/TICKNER
This is a marriage found on Victorian Index's and the marriage took place in Geelong in 1851.
Surname: TICKNER Given name: William Sex: Male Spouse S/name:PARKER Spouse Given name: Margaret Year: 1851 Reg:2688 Fiche: 806 Denomination: Presbyterian Parish: Geelong
Now i cant give you a 100% positively absolutley.....but thats about as close as i can get...because BDM index's for Victoria around this era were not complete by any means.....alphabet letters were droped off or added on.....soundex spelling errors.......Many ex convicts also changed the spelling of their names,as i said........ as not to bring shame on the family surname...................so i will have to let you decide mate.
Tony...:>))
