Janey's said it all for me.

And I shall be hauling out my own Tom Lehrer collection later. My particular favourites are Poisoning Pigeons in the Park and We'll All Go Together When We Go.

Our son learned the Periodic Table one which is used to sing with absolutely no prompting in many situations. Sadly, despite his Welsh blood, he is unable to hold a tune ......

Well Eldrick, i have to question something here
I fail to see how one can be classed predujice
against theives, villians e t c;
Sureley one cannot be predujice against unlawfull
acts, to be so, is to say they are not commiting
crime.
Janey Cannuck, a girl with cultural taste, did you
get the two sent to you

The system itself is prejuced, Planning to kill Pakistani people in Bradford is seen as racism, one is even it seems allowed to read books about it.
Thinking about and no matter remote planning a similar attack if one is Muslim will get you a terrorism charge.
If you are rich enough you seldom go to prison, and the police according to various researches, also suit the charge to the social class and race of those being charged The race part is being dealt with but the social class is not.
There Colin and Eldrick is the crux of the problems a middle class yob may well have done the same crime as one from lower classes and shock one gets a fine the other prison.
In fact the chance of being stopped by the police increases as one goes down the socio economic scale

The difference being that the rich man gets an expensive barrister whilst the poor man represents himself, or worse still, gets the Legal Aid solicitor!

Yep we must always try to look as though all are equal inthe sight of the law.
Even though many noble families made their money from the slave trade or forcing opium down chinese throats in Opium wars we now wring our hands at crime on our streets.
We have to admit we have an unequal system of justice often favoring those who 's ancestors were not much better than many of the worst criminals now.

...An interesting topic...full of flaws..indiscremancies..interpretations...colour creed religion,...social classes..one way or another..they exist in the human psche one way or another...
There is even predudice on these threads...strange but true..but they exist...it is becoming more and more apparent...

Hello again lass nice to see you again.
too true there is a systematic prejudice on these boards but it is too be expected, we are not the representative sample of the population we believe the boards are
Mention slavery or nobility and some folkgo ga ga when one conects them together

....There will always be a topic..(Terry)..
"that will light our fire"..a topic that we do not agree with..
Agreed...the people that visit these boards..(for various reasons..and there are varied motivations...for ALL of us)..we will jump at one...(and not the other)..
I agree..we are not representative of the population..nor what is really going on in this world...when we do Try..& voice such opinions..(they get Zapped..whooshed..whatever..)...
Predudice exists on these boards...whatever `veil` it is disguised in...and predudice is alive and kicking elsewhere..

I've read with interest what has been said on this thread and it's a wide ranging subject.

Eldrick's right about hypocrisy and there is a lot of hot air on the subject and not always true honesty.

We can all say we treat everybody the same regardless of colour etc....etc. but if we knew someone had sent their daughters to have genital mutilation according to their culture would we still feel the same? If a young woman loses her life at the hands of her family, because she has been seeing someone unsuitable do we think they are nice people just like us?

The very vulnerable mentally ill are the subject of prejudice and name calling in their daily lives and in trying to find jobs. Anyone who is a little different, mentally or physically can suffer prejudice.

Alcoholics and paedophiles are hounded and no-one wants to live near them yet they are someone's son or daughter and may have suffered a horrendous past.

As for equality for women, what about those that want equality in the workplace yet accept inequality in the home as well as treating their sons differently to their daughters. Also whose employer suffers most when there are problems with the children, the man's or the woman's? How equal is that?

If the definition of prejudice is properly applied then I think we can all be guilty on occasions of judging something/someone without all the facts. However, if we know all the facts and still feel the same presumably we are no longer pre judging or prejudiced?

What worries me about prejudices is that if they are not aired the opportunity to be informed of the facts is lost and thus any enlightenment and possible change of view.

...Very true Annx..well said..
And in my job..I have learnt you can not judge a book by its cover..there is often a story behind why people are why they are..life traumas...their social class..
There is a saying..that when we meet someone..eye them up...down...within 15 secs..we have come to a conclusion..of them..how they are dressing..their colour..their accent..we have formed an opinion...
If we dont like what they are wearing..their accent..we either like them...or dont...we form conclusions..in a nano second..

...Is beyond me...why they could have been banned...they are obviously intelligent people...with wicked sense of humours..yet because they dont
` play on tambourines..` are alterantive in their views..and humour..they get banned!

Be boring without folks like that..they have taught me a thing or two..!

Think we all sometimes have to do things that scream against our personel prejudices. My second youngest son when he was in one of his more political moods that we all should write to a prisoner locked away for a crime.
Strange to say ten years on we are still writting to her.
Seem to have acquired another daughter, one I never espected. In fact I'm really glad we wrote the first letter. She gets out next year.
