Hi all
I'm new to this forum but not to family research. I have joined in the hope someone may suggest how I can deal with someone that I've been sharing my research with for the past six months and who has now put it all on their Ancestry tree without any consultation or permission from me. I have no issues with him putting information on our common ancestors in his online tree but he has included my late father, my living mother and her parents (he has no connection to this family) and closely related family of mine, even my ex husband and his parents!!.
I have requested three times that he remove everyone from my Great Grandfather down, (this information has only been obtained from me and is certainly not his own work), he has refused. The family in question have been particularly difficult to research, I have spent the last 5 years researching them and am very unhappy seeing my research passed off as his!
I guess you can see I'm pretty cross, but I am also bitterly disappointed. I trusted this person with information on my nearest and dearest only to find it staring me in the face in his public Ancestry Tree, including photographs. His tree has now been changed to a private one and although I can search for names I can't see if has removed the details of my close family and have no way of knowing who he is or will be passing the information about them to.
I've lodged a complaint with Ancestry about the name of my mother appearing in the tree, her name still appears as the spouse of my late father when I do a search of Ancestry trees, but I'm not expecting a reply any time soon!
I shared the more recent information on my family on the basis of trust and that it would not be put in the public domain and now feel badly let down and foolish for sharing in the first place. This person has been in home, for some reason this makes me feel more betrayed.
For the record this person is my 4th cousin twice removed, you couldn't call us close.
Any suggestions as what if anything I can do would very appreciated.
Thanks for listening (reading), rant over and I hope in the future I can post a message with happier content.
Susan.
