Charley, Just read thru and agree with everyone.. It is your Wedding Day so your choice. I think it sounds stunning. I think the phrase Chic has been used and would second that.

When my daughter got married in 2003 she was guided by the florist on what flowers to have and she had Phalaenopsis Orchids not many flowers to choose from in November. When she was trying on wedding dresses the owner of the shop said you'll know when she has the right one by the way she stands and smiles and walks . She was spot on. It was not her usual style of dress but she looked wonderful as you will on your day. I compromised with the flowers on my wedding day and have always regretted it

Whatever you do just try and remember the day... sounds a strange thing to say but it will go sooooo fast and telling yourself to remember it will help

Ive got to rush cos I am running late reading this thread - I admit to only reading half of it - but wanted to say you wear what YOU want. Its YOUR Day.

I think it sounds lovely very chic in a breakfast at tiffanys kind of way.

I understand the trials and tribulations I have six weeks to go and am often in tears at the mo trying to sort things out.

But I have been firm in a lot of things I want (hense the tears lol).

If he loves you he wont care at the end of the day as long as you are their and when he sees how lovely you all look he will kick himself for falling in line and challenging you.

Remember his mum and yours if you have them have had their wedding day this is yours.

I have left OH mum in charge of cake. We dont totally agree on it - but I understand she wants to play a part so she is choosing it (with a little guidence). Cant you give his or your mum a role so they dont feel left out, but let you get on with the clothes?

I've seen wedding where the bridesmaids wore black. It's stunning. Deep red/orange flowers would look perfect.

Audrey Hepburn wore a black and white dress in Sabrina. It wasn't a wedding dress but it very well could have been! You can see it here:

I like the cake too.

I found it eventually, it's a lovely dress and I think your colour scheme sounds beautiful, very striking and unusual. Typically me, I wouldn't go for the red flowers as that's too predictable, I would look for a colour that's softer, say a strong lilacypink, not a salmon pink but wouldn't use lilies as they will detract from the smaller flowers on the dress.
Not sure what time of year you can get them but last Valentine's day I was given some flowers that looked like rosebuds but weren't roses, they came in various shades of pink and some were pink and cream shaded in one bud. They are called Lisianthus, and having just googled them they come in some lovely shades which sound wonderful to bring colour to the black and white theme, and are available all year round.
They might be worth looking at, and you could have lilies on the top table at the reception as you like them so much, but mind the pollen on your dress.
Good luck and hope everything works out well to keep the main people happy, which are you and your o.h., your friends who are bridesmaids etc and your Nan.

Don't forget to let us know how things go and send some pics out!

Saw some photos of a wedding a friend recently attended. Bride in ivory and black dress, adult bridesmaids in black dresses with ivory detailing, small bridesmaids in ivory with black sash

Men wore blacl jackets and black and white kilts!

And a lot of the guests were in black and white too

It looked absolutely stunning

You do what you want for your day

Good luck

Charley
Go for it
I have just been looking at wedding dresses with my daughter, for a 2010 wedding and I think your dress is the one I liked best from about 10 we looked at. So of course I will say I love it and wish you all the best. I am sure you will all look stunning on the day.

Flowers I too think red will be such a wonderful contrast and you could have your ivory lilies. Roses, Carnations or Gebera all are lovely.

Good luck and go with your heart and feelings

Regards Linda :o)

My daughter went to a wedding where the bride wore black and cream, and the bridesmaids wore dark red.

It's YOUR day, and YOU are the bride, so it is YOUR choice.

Don't let anyobe put you off.

You could try telling your OH that black and white is the in thing nowadays?

I have bought today a black and white two-piece for my great-niece's christening that I mentioned in the happy thread.
