I only ask...because..I saw Sir Issac Newtons death mask!..lol...and not seen Churchills!..so he was the closest I got...to being `near`..a legend..so to speak..
....It is very hard..to...have a view on someone..when you have not lived through that moment

well.....what can I say..apart from...I lived in Grantham..went to school there..the town of Thatcher..she went to high school there..many yrs prior..that town was famous for 3 things.....

yes, he was probably a `functioning` alcoholic...but he got Britain where we needed to be..for that time..

Winston Churchill, perhaps the most admired sot in British public life, insisted: 'I have taken more out of drink than it has taken out of me.' His colleague Rab Butler once tried to match Churchill drink for drink, and ended up pouring goblets of brandy into his shoes rather than admit defeat.

Churchill was what, in modern parlance, is known as a 'functioning alcoholic': someone who can drink heavily and still hold it together professionally. The British people have a lot of sympathy with this position.

Thats why we love him so much I reckon!
