eRRolSheep Report 16 Jun 2008 16:54

You now need to open up Device Manager:

Go to Start > Control Panel

Make sure you are in Classic View (it will tell you in the top left corner and you can click there to toggle between the modes).

Once in Control Panel, double click on the System icon.

Click on the Hardware tab.

Click on the Device Manager button.

Tell me when you have got to this part.

Go to:

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.

Click on "Create a restore point".

Click Next.

Type a name in the box for this restore point (perhaps as suggested above).

Click Create.

No we'll be using device manager later.
Unfortunately I usually prefer it if other people don't make suggestions when I am trying to talk someone through a solution because it can cause confusion and even cause PC problems sometimes.
It's not because I am being rude, it just makes it easier for the person I am talking through.

skwirrel 1 Report 16 Jun 2008 16:17

oh ok now I understand, is that where I go through device manager to do that

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 16 Jun 2008 16:15

Nooooooooooooooooooo
We're merely creating a new restore point so that if things go wrong when we update the driver we can roll the machine back to the state it is in now.

skwirrel 1 Report 16 Jun 2008 16:12

but will I need to remember when this drive stopped working coz I can't actually remember how long this has been like this.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 16 Jun 2008 16:10

That's what I am talking about Surfmonkey - just suggesting that a Restore Point is created first.
I was going to try updating the driver.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 16 Jun 2008 16:09

Why will you?
I'm talking about CREATING a restore point rather than rolling back to one. Plus, you do not lose actual files when using System Restore.
