Well they no longer sing carols in my sons school they spend an evening down at the church instead.

Roxanne

Roxanne Report 19 May 2008 18:47

I think most of that about carol singing is just propaganda,My grandchildren are taught carols, and have a nativity, its the stupid papers that cause all the trouble!

P.C is there to protect people,as David said,Women, and other groups that in the past have had a hard time!!

What do you think Of Emiline Pankhurst?
was she a trouble causer?a stupid woman or a Fighter for women?

All women In England have her to thank for our freedom!

What a wonderful example DD!! As Susan said a PC brigader only knowing half the facts.
Singing Christmas Carols were stopped in some schools as they beleived it may offend the Moslems - Don't know how, Jesus, like Mohammed, was a prophet of God - the same God. Must have pretty awful Relgious Study lessons in some schools.

I don't know if that's a fact or a tabloid invention, DD but anyone who lets someone tell them not to sing Christmas Carols is an idiot. If it's about a school and the school is mixed culture then other cultural things should be included along with it. I don't think sensitivity to others should mean geting rid of common sense.

The kids being told they can't sing Christmas carols incase it upsets someone.

Hi Rox

Yes, you are. And that's a good thing in my book. I think the term is used far too loosley and widely as well.

Kitty - I think an example would be the legislation that has been brought in to prevent discrimination, such as against women and disabled people. It can be very positive - it's politically incorrect to call a woman a fat cow isn't it. Some of it's just about fairness and good manners.

People seem to think that P.C and controlling Nannies are the same thing, very different in my opinion.

I dont like to be controlled by anyone which it seems the labour party want to do:-))

I dont actually Know about bleeding hearts ,if that means caring about what happens to people/Animals the planet, then I surpose Im one of those.
at least I can say I stood up for my beliefs,Ive been on plenty of protests and marches in my time, yes,I surpose Im a Bleeding heart:-)))

What is an example of political correctness then?

*thinks hard again*

Think you've got a point, Island:)) Well it all escalated at the same sort of time.

I think minority groups in society have a lot to thank the PCB for:)

Uggers Report 19 May 2008 18:30

lol Kitty! I was against it personally. I haven't got a problem with non smoking places, I just think publicans should have had the choice. I don't really see that as a piece of political correctness though.

I think that comes under the "chasing votes as we aren't doing too well in the polls" brigade! lol

Uggers

Uggers Report 19 May 2008 18:27

Aaah I am a smoker and hadn't thought of that! Now is that the PC Brigade? Or the Nanny State? Or is it a crossover?

'I can't think of one example where my life has been changed by "the PC Brigade" though.'

Bet you could if you tried David.....for instance......Does your nearest pub allow you to smoke? :-)

not important if you are not a smoker....but never the less, just one tiny one to be going on with

Maybe a generous sprinkling of common sense is needed in national and local government.

Sometimes "they" take themselves far too seriously, hence some of the daft ideas they come up with.

Uggers

Uggers Report 19 May 2008 18:14

That's more like it, Susan:) I think the thinking behind what is termed PC has achieved some great things but like anything it can be taken too far and ill-advisedly. I can't think of one example where my life has been changed by "the PC Brigade" though.

Lynda, mine used to blame them too. "They" always knew all the gossip and when old women said "they", they used to nudge their bosom up lol

Off hand.....one aspect of the meaning of the PC brigade means, to me, do-gooders, as well as other more in depth meanings.

Doo-gooders as far as I am concerned, are people who, in the main, mean well but do not have the full facts or make snap judgments without taking into account the more in depth and overall picture before putting into operation their well meaning plans/thoughts.....then when they go wrong and the damage is done, they blame others, or say.....'Well I/we only meant well'....or maybe.....'Well we can learn from this' and go ahead with more do-gooding/PCing making more and more of a mess.....never understang why because it is never their fault.

Susan
:-)

I agree....tis our fault
