You have been through so much Shimmering, and stood tall through it all for your brother.......what a lovely lady you are, standing up to those.......it was awful the way he had been treated, maybe they will think twice before they pick on him again......

love to you, you have a voice, and you have used it very well......x sally

Got so many pms - my heart is so full of love for you all. Everyone agrees this thread should be ongoing, so may I ask you all to bookmark it (I have), nudge it so anyone in need of a listening ear, support, comfort, advice, lol even laughter that's such a help, will know where to come.

Laura, hun, thank you. I'll be blushing soon, just doing what any big sis would do for her bro. Thank you though, means so much. xxx

OH said we're going to see bro at wkend (I don't drive, he's away on busines during week); i'm going to print off all the wonderful things you've written re my bro and show him he's not alone. x

Not anything that's not to do with us. x

absolutly delighted that you were succesful. Care Homes and trusts will always try to manipulate family to back down and keep quiet but we are advocates for people who cannot speak for themslves. No-one knows them better than their family.

Marilyn

if you feel unable to speak up fpr your Mum ask Citizens advise about advocate , solot of areas provide this service free. Stand up for your Mums rights. The mental health Unit she is in is guilty of abuse if they are removing her zimmer plus other stuff

Doryth, thank you. You so right. We are the voices for those that can't defend themselves.

Really good advice for Marilyn - it is abuse, hadn't thought about Citizens Advice.

((((SS))))
So pleased for you, your brother and your family.
As a care home manager your story has appalled me. Some of us try very hard to get it right.

Homes have to keep a record of their complaints, so CSCI will (or should!) find out about this incident, if they don't know already.

You have not only won for your brother, but also for people who have nobody to speak for them.

Take care, and I hope your brother can now get on with his life and be happy.

ShimmsRedRoseAndMistletoe Report 16 May 2008 06:12

Lyndi, thnk you - there are wonderful Managers, nurses, carers (indeed, my sister in law is a Carer herself, there every day), need to remember all of you and how you hurt too when read stories like these.

So sad, up til this point, had been able to relax, he seemed so well cared for.

((((hugs))))) x

Boards gonna keep running, pls nudge - will help those who don't know where to turn to, even if no probs just need someone to listen we're all here for them. x

Shimmering ``glad to see the thread still very active. just a thought that if the care unit has had any meetings you and your family are entitled to have a copy of the minutes. may be also useful to ask if they have rewritten your brothers care plan to reflect any changes. I would also be asking what training the staff have been given on how to de-escalated potentially aggressive situations ( and how current this is). Keep nudging. Meg

Pops home from lunch quickly

Have asked to see various Policies plus 'Ofsted' type report, friend of mine has pulled up some info already.

Sis in law on the case - we've learnt over the years to keep records, always walk around with small pad and pen. Times, dates, photo's (bro's black eye) + guess what she discovered yesterday!

Bro (remember he has catastrophic head injury) can get confused sometimes, kept talking about split lip, she couldn't see one. He pulled lip up and there, right in front of her was infected split lip inside mouth. She insisted doc called immediately, a/biotics.

Aint life great!

Speak later, lol

Threads gonna run, run, run for all those who need it.

Just want to reinforce that 99% of Carers/Nurses are abs wonderful! It's the small minority that cause the damage/pain/harm, ...
