But if we dont decry one act of cruelty does that not condone cruelty on a much larger scale? I think that is how people who do protest feel.

It is much easier to sit back, do nothing and pour scorn on those who do care. But that only encourages the tyrants of this world.

I use Robert Mugabe as an example. Can't see the point is starting to castigate people for being gutless.

The point is clear to me -

No one gives a damn about the big picture in anything.

People will go off it for a single highlighted case of cruelty, but ignore the thousands of other cases that go unpublicised.

They will offer death threats to a human for commiting an act of 'cruelty' even though it is unproven - but decry the death penalty for murder......

That is the point of 'art' - it means different things to different people and is meant to be controversial.

Yes, no excuse for wanton cruelty........but this stunt has certainly got people heated up, hasn't it! It's succeeded in doing something, then.

I think the point it does show Ian, is that too many people are too weak to stand up against evil of any sort. It is easier to believe something is untrue than have to stand up and be counted (throughout history - and quite recent history at that - we have seen this to be the case - Hitler relied on it, Stalin also and even closer to us we have people like Mugabe and before him, Amin)

Robert Mugabe is not a god, he could be toppled - so where are those with the guts to do the job? I take it you are already involved in a protest against him Ian?

I dont believe this bloke wanted to draw attention to starving dogs in the street, come on, if you check out his other "exhibits" you will see this is not a bloke motivated by conscience. The dog was just an addition to an exhibit about "Things are what you think" or some such nonsense.

Its a bit like saying Tracey Emin put her dirty bed clothes in an exhibition to draw attention to the lack of laundrettes.

There are varying reports - he says he fed it (have you seen the pics - this is a bag of bones), he said it escaped after just a day - the poor dog couldnt walk let alone escape from that place where he was tied up.

So does this artist now donate all his earnings to starving street dogs then? Did he not think to have that one receive some veterinary treatment rather than tie it by the neck on a cold hard floor?

Nope, I think we will find that this is some sort of spin to protect the bloke who apparently has had several death threats now.

Whatever the actual truth - and I cant believe someone could be so callous to have a dog in that condition tied up in a gallery anyway - it shouldnt be allowed.

I am often attacked (verbally) because of my age.. as being OLD FASHIONED.

But I was like this with all my children (4.. with age gaps 50-36) and was so pleased that I was not alone here.

Would love this to be a hoax - for all the right reasons, but there are VERY real pictures of an animal in appauling condition that needs to be investigated......
And I for one will be looking into this closely....!!

On the subject of children viewing this sort of thing i think it's great that others have the same view - to educate them that this is something that is very wrong is surely better than them being blind to the world?? My five year old is more than aware and often helps me with rescues (and plans to be a vet when she grows up) - She has seen animals in distress and understands we must stop it, whatever it takes....

I see nothing 'artistic' in this little scenario.

I DO hope it is a hoax, but will be signing the petition anyway, on the off chance that it is true.
If true, this is a disgusting thing to have happened and no one connected with the episode is 'innocent' of this crime.

Peter my children are all grown up.... but were they still young and read this.. we would have a talk about it.
If it were in tomorrows news papers, or on TV news.... would I make sure they did not see it?
NO.... I never censored there reading at any age, and certainly never the news.
