hope you an dyour family are starting to come to terms with the sad loss of tizer
its awful and you dont get over it really, its so sad being without them
i know how your feeling right now and send you all my thoughts

hi everyone,you will remember a few days ago that i went for a talk with my vet,the meeting went well and he agreed that tizer had a severe reaction to rymadyl,he agreed that he should of told me about poss side affects, well you can imagine my shock when i opened my post this morning to find a bill from my vet charging me £135.98 for putting tizer to sleep.i cant believe it,its not the money,but to have payed for the rimadyl month after month(to kill my dog)and then have to pay to have him put to sleep because of the medication,they are having a laugh,i wasnt going to make a fuss about this but im very angry,i will pay the bill but heads are going to roll.x

OMG Suzanne so sorry to hear abt this, think I remember you telling us about your poor dogs benign tumour not so long ago. Am sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my little girl back in September, I know how painful it is when they go.((hug)).

My other dog was on Rimadyl after an op but having read this, I wont let him take it again. Thank you for the warning.

Suzanne, I am glad you got answers from your vet but find it appalling that he didn't know the side effects concerning this medication and some dogs.
Surely he should be aware of things like this.
I still think it would be an idea to write to your local newspaper about the drug, if it saves anyone else's pet going through what Tizer did, it will be worth while. You don't have to mention the vet's name or anything, just tell people about the medication.
Hope you will be able to remember the happy times with Tizer and be glad you were able to share his life with him.

yes your right miffy,vets all across the country should know about this drug,of course we know that some vets do warn people,but do the ones that dont warn people really know the misery they are causing.xx

It's good that the vet will now start to warn people about the Rimadryl Suzanne. Well done you for that ! Some good has now come out of a heartbreaking situation.

I'm very lucky as my vet DID warn me of all the side effects and it was a miracle drug for my old lady for a precious while. That should be the same nationwide. xx

im glad your friend refused to give her dog rimadyl,but remember as ive said before it can help some dogs,you just have to be aware of the side affects and know what to look out for.....
rimadyl is very expensive,i was paying £25pound a wk plus vets fees to kill my dog....

went to see my vet on tues,he was very avasive at first,but then admitted that it was pro the rimadyl that killed him,he agreed that he wouldnt have died in sure a terrible way from the tumour(it was benign) and the symtoms would suggest a severe reaction,
he said he didnt know that the medication had a bad affect on labs,and that in the future they will review the way they prescribe rimadyl and will warn people of the sideffects,so im happy now.xx

A friend took her dog to the vets on Monday, it seems he has a hip problem, the vet gave her Rimadyl for him, I told her about this on Tuesday, she had given him 1 tablet and now refuses to give him more, she's so angry the vet prescribed it and that it cost her £45. She really is grateful knowing about it though.

what happened at the vets Suzanne? was it the Rimadyl or another tumour that caused the problem?

dee,your right to refuse to give him rimadyl as it seems the large dogs react the worst,im glad you saw my thread,my aim is to warn not scare people. best of look with the biopsy.xx

Oh Im so sorry about your Tizer - I know its so heartbreaking to lose your beloved pet.

Id never heard of this before - thank you for alerting us.

I took Barney our Bullmastiff for a bi-opsy today, they said he would be given pain relief. I got them to mark his notes * No Rimadyl* They were surprised that I didn't want him to have it, and said it was widely used.
