scrumping in Mr Watsons back garden, he had the most brilliant pear trees, he used to come out and chase us off with his walking stick, remember my brother falling down the tree once, in a mad rush to get away,
that put paid to our scrumping, he had to have a load of stitches, so we had to tell what we had been up too !!!!

Mr Watson said to me a few years later, " if youd have knocked the door and asked, id have let you in the garden to get them "
scrumping was more fun though wasnt it

I had a friend who although the same age was about half my size..........we used to swap bikes fo a laugh.
I looked like a clown on hers , with knees hitting the handle bars and she had to stand on my pedels as she was to tiny to sit and peddle.

What a lovely thread.

One year the shout went up that a local pond was being filled in by builders.A gang of us kids went armed with buckets and saddle bags on bikes to save the frogs..........silly really as there was nowhere for them to live but we couldn't stand by and see them buried alive.

Summer days chatting over yogurt pot phones.
And dens on waste land..........happy times.

cousin showed me how to tickle trout he did it every time but I remember doing it just once scared me to bits when it jumped onto the bank,

We used to keep woolley bears (those furry catepillars) in jam jars and feed them grass...no wonder they didn't survive long we also made mum scent by putting rose petals in a jam jar with tap water and shaking it up....poor mum must have smelt like a drain when she induldged me and popped a dash on her wrists and then there were Dad's roses that got scalped for my efforts
