Used to go to Elmdon Airport to watch Flying Fortresses take off on bombing missions over Germany. The sound of 4 Pratt and Whitneys on full throttle was quite awesome, but bore no comparison to the gorgeous sound of the Rolls Royce Merlin in the most beautiful airplane that has ever flown, and will ever fly - the lovely SPITTIE. |

Going by tram down the Bristol Road past the old Longbridge Works and on to the Lickey Hills was a real treat, especially if we could get on the top deck, in the front. The highlight was the run down the hill past the Woodlands Hospital. |

I remember doing handstands against the back passage wall and going into 'crab', playing double ball, and that one were you put a tennis ball in one of your mam's old stockings and stood with your back to the wall and bounced the ball/stocking off the wall then under you leg. Hanging by your benders {back of your knees] on monkey bars. And going to the ice-cream van with a cup. Finally, my mam going through my long hair on a Sunday night before school looking for nits, then tying it up in rags [old stockings] for ringlets the next day... I loved my childhood... |
