Going by tram down the Bristol Road past the old Longbridge Works and on to the Lickey Hills was a real treat, especially if we could get on the top deck, in the front. The highlight was the run down the hill past the Woodlands Hospital.

Used to go to Elmdon Airport to watch Flying Fortresses take off on bombing missions over Germany. The sound of 4 Pratt and Whitneys on full throttle was quite awesome, but bore no comparison to the gorgeous sound of the Rolls Royce Merlin in the most beautiful airplane that has ever flown, and will ever fly - the lovely SPITTIE.

I remember what Dozza's Mum said about the rags in your hair. You had to sit in front of the fire until your hair dried, which took for ever. Then the nightmare of having it wrapped in rags - long strips of torn-up bedsheets or brown paper-and had to go to bed with these rags tied so tightly that it gave me a headache !

Oh boy the Lickey Hills...another treat on a Sunday...we used to go to the Lickey's via a little fairground (I think by the bus stop). It was all like a big adventure not just a few miles on a bus but a voyage of discovery for us kids...happy days

You where lucky Colin to be able to go out on Sundays
We weren't allowed out, only in the garden and that was the Back garden

Not quite back to childhood days, but who remembers R White....the secret lemonade drinker?

The add for my gran's Sunday beer night treat. 'It looks good, it tastes good, and by golly it does you good'

Four of us used to put a farthing each and buy a penny bottle of home made pop from a local shop. If it was hot, we put the bottle in the stream to keep it cool while we fished for tiddlers.

Another treat was when my nan (still miss her terribly) gave me a basket so I could collect any new laid eggs from her hens. An ever better treat was being able to have one boiled to eat with "soldiers".

My mother used to send me down the shop for a loaf of bread, but on the way back I ate all the crusty corners,
and I will never get over how a Qrt pound of spam fed six of us !!

You are never going to believe this :- but my mother on cold nights used to fill lemonade bottles with HOT water to warm our beds. Sometimes even let us sleep with them as hot water bottles !! I cant believe my mother ever allowed that.
